Happy booom boom day everyone! That Anita Ward track is further proof that her catalogue needs a bit more delving into. I recently shazam'd a track playing in the background of the "I Am Wanda", documentary about actress/filmmaker Barbara Loden. It was Anita Ward's "You Lied". Nice to hear things she did beyond "Ring My Bell". Enjoyed the whole first set while in gridlock Boston traffic. SBB makes everything better.

I miss that Tower Records in Tokyo. Great listening stations. That's how I discovered a whole album recorded on paper, and made friends with the Bad Plus. The last time Bedouine was on SBB she recommended Sibylle Baier's "Colour Green" record. I had heard it before, but hadn't ever really engaged with it. Now "I Lost Something in the Hills" haunts me my subconscious all the time.

Isn't it a big difference when you're doing a show live (where people are dancing and the order of songs may be important) or on the radio (where people are "just" listening)

Jocelyn:

Hi Phillippe! I hope you've had a good week. Sorry for the delay, at the hair salon.
Avatar 5:09pm
djsheilab:

Rob Kopp—I'm completely the opposite. When I DJ live I just turn up and play without putting anything in order. But for the radio, segues and organization and keeping a certain melodic flow is SO important to me. Also the fact that I'm jumping through so many genres, years, styles makes it all the more difficult. When I DJ out I usually play 45s from 50-70s so a more consistent sound. That was a long answer!

As a radio listener, I pay more attention to things like segues and mood I wouldn't in a live setting where I'm moving around. To me both are true art forms, but totally different skills (I'm lousy at live/simply mediocre on the radio.) A great segue on the radio can be spine-tingling.

@tneeld. I'm listening in other way. My main reason for listening to SBB is that Sheila is playing a lot new female singers. Through SBB I picked up artists like Natalia Lafourcade, Shavela Vegas, Bedouine that I like very much. I don't care at all about a segue. 2 good songs in a row that are completely different is fine by me.

@Rob Kopp - I actually completely agree about new artists. I listen to SBB for that a bunch of the time. I think a segue isn't necessarily two like songs next to each other. Sometimes the best segues are the most shocking juxtapositions that only make some kind of emotional sense after the fact.
