Avatar 9:12pm TDK60:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14pm Sam Segal:

Doctor Jazz and Fleep! Restoring my happiness with your presence!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14pm Sam Segal:

haha not to worry, TDK...i definitely despise Milton Friedman.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15pm doctorjazz:

Like this (Purple Mountains) a lot...do I know the song from elsewhere?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm Sam Segal:

I am pretty sure this is an original...but I could be wrong, Doctor Jazz!
  9:20pm Chris Farrell:

Honk if you’re lonely is the song that stuck out most to me after a Silver Jews crash course. Really liked this new one though..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm Jeff Golick:

That NZ sound is so great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm doctorjazz:

Revenge of the Dylan clones?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm Sam Segal:

Hey, Chris! Love that tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm fleep:

Dylan Goes Retail
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm Sam Segal:

@Jeff: The consistency of Flying Nun really is something to marvel at...
Avatar 9:25pm TDK60:

..just got the Chills' Something Beautiful album, only realized halfway thru it's live, recorded at a friend's outdoor partee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm Sam Segal:

@Doc, you'll have to take that up with Nikki Sudden.
  9:33pm Chris Farrell:

Will we be hearing the Zager and Evan hit “in the year 2525” tonight?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm Sam Segal:

Not for another 506 years, Chris!
Avatar 9:38pm still b/p:

But I would wait 506 years
And I would wait 506 more...

How youse doin'?
Avatar 9:38pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar 9:40pm Franco Twinkie:

  9:40pm Chris Farrell:

Well next time I can afford a road trip Wymore NE has a world renowned Welsh history museum.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm Sam Segal:

@Coel, @SBP, and @Franco...three legends of the If You Lose Your Horse extended universe. Welcome, all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm Sam Segal:

Got a favorite "Dark Star" of all time, @Franco?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm chresti:

I remember when 1984, then 1999, sounded far off into the future
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm Doug Schulkind:

Arto Lindsay and I share a birthday. He can have most of it, though.
Avatar 9:49pm Franco Twinkie:

Well Sam, there are many, however it is the Live/Dead version I was listening to on the way to the taco truck this evening. Can I say perfection without getting kicked in the teeth?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm Sam Segal:

Haha, I'm sure Arto would gladly go halfsies with you, Doug. He seems like a pretty sweet fellow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm Doug Schulkind:

That he is, that he is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm Sam Segal:

Great answer, Franco. Mine's 2/13/70, live at the Fillmore East.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm chresti:

Happy May birthday, Doug
Avatar 9:55pm Franco Twinkie:

That is the one with the big bad wolf in front of The Fillmore?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm Sam Segal:

Not sure. I have it on Dick's Picks vol. 4
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm doctorjazz:

Should I say I saw DNA back then? Nah...(love the Live Dead Dark Star...famous quote: Branford Marsalis jammed with the Dead. They were going to do Dark Star, which Marsalis didn't know, and Jerry sus something to him to the effect of "Don't worry, it's just one chord, but the kids seem to like it".
Avatar 10:05pm coelacanth∅:

"juvenilia" is also the title of an ep by Liz Phair (preceding the verlaines, i'm assuming)
Avatar 10:09pm coelacanth∅:

(nope the verlaines' was first)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm Sam Segal:

Hahahaha, I love that Wyton anecdote, Doc. I believe Ornette did jam with the Dead at one point.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm doctorjazz:

Yup, Ornette did, haven't heard it. I do have a recording of the Branford Marsalis show somewhere on my hard drive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm Sam Segal:

Oops, meant Branford in my last comment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm doctorjazz:

This Glenn Phillips track is cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm Sam Segal:

Phillips of Hampton Grease Band fame!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25pm doctorjazz:

They're a familiar name, but never heard their music. On the "have to check them out" list (which is too longto ever get to...)
Avatar 10:28pm Franco Twinkie:

This is one of Rodgers more confounding songs - so good.
  10:31pm Dean:

On the weekend of my daughter's christening, we walked to downtown Sacramento from the "historic" Alkali Flats district fairly early in the morning. We met up with Wynton walking with a friend in the other direction. I gotta kick out of it. He's kinda short.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm doctorjazz:

Davis Murray alsosat in with the Dead, and recorded an album of Dead music, which is really good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm doctorjazz:

... David Murray, that is...
  10:43pm Chris Farrell:

Just finished laundry and dishes. Had Roger Miller and Johnny Paycheck and all my fellow horse people with me.. in spirit of course. Can’t believe my mom did my laundry for almost 25 years..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm Sam Segal:

Oh, I have that David Murray Dead album. Its wonderful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm Sam Segal:

How's the laundry treating you now, Chris?
  10:46pm Chris Farrell:

I really enjoy it. Usually takes some motivation to get done but I found it to be very formative. The dryer at the apartment I live at does dry clothes all the way.. kind of leaves them to smell funny.
Avatar 10:46pm coelacanth∅:

i'd like to see David Murray, even if he was playing with the dead!
Avatar 10:46pm Franco Twinkie:

Excuse me for been a clueless senile blockhead, but do I detect a bit Dallas fever when people talk about Game Of Thrones? And who the hell talks about Dallas nowadays?
Avatar 10:50pm coelacanth∅:

(that sentiment based on the assumption he played with them post-terrapin)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm Sam Segal:

Hahahaha i think the comparison to Dallas is apt, Franco.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm doctorjazz:

Murray's back in the US after living in Europe for the past 20 years, he has regular gigs in the NY area and I'm sure he tours...

Nice interview-
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm doctorjazz:

Loving this set...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm Sam Segal:

Thanks, Doc! Always enjoying stretching out into some more ambient zones at this hour.
Avatar 11:08pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks for the link, doc
i'll check that out
Avatar 11:13pm coelacanth∅:

...and 'sorry if my comment about the dead was antagonistic to anyone. though i *don't care* about post-terrapin 'dead i don't *hate* it/them and really was unjustly taking out my pent up disgust with wynton marsalis on the dead.
(now i'm antagonistic to wynton marsalis' fans, but that i wont appologise for!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm Sam Segal:

All opinions on the Dead are acceptable on this chat board, @Coel. Fear not!
Avatar 11:16pm coelacanth∅:

haha...well, i don't want to be misunderstood either, especially knowing i'm amongst fans
Avatar 11:26pm coelacanth∅:

well it was only a matter of time before sunn o))) went pop
Avatar 11:26pm Franco Twinkie:

Discussing/defending The Grateful Dead will always be like defending Orson Wells. Someone will always say - But what about the frozen peas? With a justifiably shit eating grin on their face.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm doctorjazz:

I don't get upset with folks that don't like Dead stuff, I can fully understand it (though I'm a fan....). Used to be a Wynton hater, but he seems to have mellowed with age, programming music art Jazz at Lincoln Center he used to day wasn't"real jazz".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm doctorjazz:

Ok, gonna try to get close to my 8 hours of sleep a night current goal (listening to a podcast by some sleep experts about how bad getting less really is for you), night all, been fun as always!
Avatar 11:32pm Franco Twinkie:

Rx, Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm Sam Segal:

Best of luck, Doctor Jazz! Wish I could pull off 8 hours more than once or twice a week (at best).
Avatar 11:33pm coelacanth∅:

g'night doc
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm doctorjazz:

It's really scary how bad too little sleep is. Zzzzzzzzzzz
Avatar 11:35pm coelacanth∅:

so, Franco -i have to cop to not understanding the frozen peas reference; though i do understand what your post means
Avatar 11:36pm Franco Twinkie:

One night of bad sleep and I'm ready for the wood chipper.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36pm chresti:

Love this and the set before, Sam. Getting ready to turn in for early wake up, speaking of little sleep. Thanks! Goodnight everybody !
  11:36pm Chris Farrell:

I always associated the Dead with LSD (which I loved more than almost anything) so it kind of made liking them necessary and as my creativity dwindled during that pursuit I grew sort xenophobic in a lot of ways which made learning harder. Maybe it would have been hard either way. Can’t look back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm Sam Segal:

Sleep well, Chresti and Franco!!
Avatar 11:39pm Franco Twinkie:

Coel, He did this commercial that was so degrading and hysterical, 'cause he just couldn't do it right.
Avatar 11:44pm coelacanth∅:

i think i remember clips of that
Avatar 11:44pm coelacanth∅:

...'night chresti
Avatar 11:48pm Franco Twinkie:

It's on a collection called Celebrities At Their Worst. Colonel Sanders is also great/horrible mangling his lines.
  11:54pm Chris Farrell:

@Sam- Dale Watson is a country artist you might like to check out. He hosts these awards called the AmeriPoliton awards as a counter to the Country Music Awards.
Avatar 11:57pm Franco Twinkie:

Good night everybody.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm Sam Segal:

Thanks, Chris. I definitely will.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm Sam Segal:

Night, Franco!
Avatar 12:01am coelacanth∅:

Thanks Sam!
good night everyone
  12:02am Chris Farrell:

Night gang see ya next week. Great show Sam! Have a good week!
