Goblin. Yes. Everything is right with the world :-)
  4:02pm
Martinibomb:

This is a freeform mix today for sure. I just threw a pile of stuff together and recorded it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

You and Otis always say that tho ... and it is always immaculate. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Boy, that's strange to hear all of the sudden :-) :-)

DJ GeorgyGirl:

I was going to say ... that I'm playing my favourite Petula Clark song on my birthday show so I'll keep it a secret for now.
Avatar 4:14pm
spacebrother:

I often "throw things together" for shows and hope for the best, all the while looking for themes and correspondences.
Avatar 4:14pm
spacebrother:

@Georgy - When is your birthday?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi Greg!! You are also magnificent at the mix :-)
  4:15pm
Martinibomb:

@GG really hah I think my upbringing I don't have any kind of association with them. Is there a reason?
Avatar 4:15pm
spacebrother:

Aww. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Friday, June 7th - rather conveniently placed for a Flange party ;-)

You're much better.
Avatar 4:16pm
spacebrother:

I LOVE the Eletrosoniks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I grew up in Vancouver when they were the town heroes so played every five seconds on the radio. I feel the same way about "Popcorn". They're both an overkill thing to be fair ;-)
Avatar 4:17pm
spacebrother:

"Electrosoniks"
  4:17pm
Martinibomb:

@GG Ah that makes sense. Yeah I never heard them at all until maybe 15 years ago?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Greg - I'm blushing now. :-)

@Spacebrother I need to really listen to them more but yeah ths is right up my alley too. I've heard them before but I haven't dived into super deep yet.
  4:20pm
Martinibomb:

Ah! Thank you very much Mister SpaceBrother, sir! ;-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

This is lovely and dreamy :-)
  4:21pm
Martinibomb:

Have you folks heard Pete Drake?
Avatar 4:22pm
spacebrother:

There is a collection of Baltan and Dissevelt on Basta.
  4:23pm
Martinibomb:

I think I'm just going to dive in and listen to all their stuff this week
Avatar 4:24pm
spacebrother:

Was Drake the guitarist who us famous for "Forever?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

This is an unusual Ventures sound - is this later? It's very good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I have that Baltan-Dissevelt Box. It's worth every cent!
  4:25pm
Martinibomb:

Stupid work. I am listening but reading and commenting is super difficult today.
Avatar 4:30pm
Mr Fab:

GG, The Ventures did a million albums, and getting into the '60s they did get a bit fuzzy/psych-y at times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - I like it! :-)
  4:33pm
Martinibomb:

In my head its late 70s but I think that's because I have it on a compilation from the late 70s that I've had since i was a kid yeah thought this was an odd song from them more jazz or something
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm
Jan Turkenburg:

Found 'Pete Drake - I'm just a guitar' on "www.sharpeworld.com 23-10-2003"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Fun fact - one of my college friends from the 80s had an older brother who was Joe Jackson's first drummer. Joe started his career playing pub gigs in Portsmouth in a pub with the greatest name ever. (Greater than the Flange even!) The Fawcett Inn (as it is on Fawcett Road). It helps if you do it in a British accent ;-)
My partner just said that the Fawcett Inn has just started putting on punk gigs again. :-)

Mr Fab:

Looked it up - "Wack Wack" was on the Ventures's wonderfully named 1967 album "Guitar Freakout."
  4:39pm
Martinibomb:

Haha like *Force it in* is that how you pronounce it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@MB - got it in one! For a while it was known locally as "The Crap Shag". lol.
  4:40pm
Martinibomb:

I wonder if there are some more songs that are similar to Wack Wack?
  4:40pm
Martinibomb:

is wack wack a cover?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I *think* there's a Mongo Santamaria version of "Wack Wack"?
  4:43pm
Martinibomb:

The Fawcett Inn reminds me of this place in Wheeler Oregon.. The Wheeler Inn. On the roof they had a guy rolling a girl in a wheelbarrow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@MB - lol!!!! There you go. Ribald puns and pub signs ;-)
Avatar 4:45pm
Mr Fab:

the inar-web sez "Wack Wack" was: "Originally by The Capitols, The Young-Holt Trio"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Ohhhhhhhhhhh - I love Tom Scott's version of "Today" :-)
  4:46pm
Martinibomb:

So does Pete Rock :-)
  4:46pm
Martinibomb:

That's how I got to Tom Scott
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm
