Avatar 11:03am Jason Elbogen:

Thanks, Fab... I'm streaming I presume?
Avatar 11:03am Mr Fab:

hearing you loud and clear.
Avatar 11:05am Mr Fab:

This momentous week here on Sheena's Jungle Room just got even more momentous-er, with the debut of Jason's weekly excursions into fascinating obscurities, followed by Jan Turkenburg's debut show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05am Otis Fodder:

Hi Jason, tuned in at work here today. Welcome to the Jungle Room!
Avatar 11:10am Mr Fab:

Whassup, Otis? Gotta love Jason kicking off the show with some seriously "out" exotica.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11am Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Jason, Welcome in the neighbourhood. I'm your next door if you need me. I messed up the time difference again (thanks Mr Fab. for posting on fb)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Jan Turkenburg:

@ Mr. Fab, did you get the file, etc...?
Avatar 11:13am Linda Lee:

tuned in & ready! this is fabulous.
Avatar 11:14am Mr Fab:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am Otis Fodder:

Sheena's in the backdrop all day here at work, for the next 3hrs and into your show (Jan) and to Georgy's. And then an ABBA Burlesque Tribute show tonight.
Avatar 11:16am Linda Lee:

who's your lucky employer, Otis?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am Jan Turkenburg:

Yessss! ok, now I can relax, lay back and enjoy Jason's show!
Avatar 11:16am Mr Fab:

Hi Linda! Yes, loving the show so far. Jason comes to us thanks to a strong recommendation from Station Mgr Ken. And it might be said that Ken knows a thing or two about great radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am Otis Fodder:

I wish I could say Me, Myself, and I... but freelance, it's filling the needs of varied client bosses. Thankfully all very nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am Otis Fodder:

Ahhh yes, Ken puts the Free in both Freeform and Freedman.
Avatar 11:19am Jason Elbogen:

Hi everyone... Thanks for tuning in!
Avatar 11:20am Linda Lee:

glad to hear it, Otis! nice music *and* nice bosses. if ya gotta work ..
Avatar 11:21am Mr Fab:

Otis, will they be playing bump-n-grind versions of Abba songs? Cuz that i gotta hear.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Jason. Welcome to the Jungle (Room)!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am Otis Fodder:

@Fab - Yes traditional burlesque to drag, a song a queen, all dancing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am Otis Fodder:

There we go, hello Jason, sounding great!
Avatar 11:26am Linda Lee:

tout va bien se passer: everything's gonna be fine.
Avatar 11:31am Mr Fab:

Check Jason's archives, and be amazed by how far back they go. The man's a FMU O.G.
Avatar 11:35am Linda Lee:

fabulous sounds. just great, Jason!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Rich in Washington:

Helloooo, Jason!
Hello, Sheensters!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am Otis Fodder:

Hey Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am Rich in Washington:

Hiya, Otis!
On vacation, so not tracking time and days well. Plus the schedule change...
Avatar 11:43am Linda Lee:

i'm loving the idea that i can just stay tuned to Sheena all day today. wunnerful, wunnerful.
Avatar 11:45am Mr Fab:

yup, 8am-5pm PST, which nicely coincides with my office schedule.
Avatar 11:46am Linda Lee:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Otis Fodder:

No noise complaints here, loving the playlist thus far.
Avatar 11:54am Mr Fab:

yeah, that was music to my ears. Just looked up that swell Scalpy Gonzales track and i see that - score! - it's a name-your-price Bandcamp download.
Avatar 11:55am Linda Lee:

i do have noise complaints, alas. my neighbor's back on that darn tractor again! keep the good sounds coming, please, Jason!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Jan Turkenburg:

Here's an atheist loving and playing a certain kind of christian music as well!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Otis Fodder:

I have jackhammer city worker noise complaints right about now Linda, they have been tearing up the street in front of my place for weeks. The cat now is even like, whatever, this is the city, feed me again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am Otis Fodder:

Same here Jan, go much good Christian Music from Jesus Rock to Gospel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am Jan Turkenburg:

I fled my house today as well, because breaking up streets & digging noises too. Then I spent way too much money in a second record store....
Avatar 11:59am Linda Lee:

gosh, sorry, Otis. i do remember the up-close jackhammers from my 30 years in nyc. don't think i could manage it now. in the mountains too long.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am Jan Turkenburg:

second hand
Avatar 12:00pm Linda Lee:

interestingly heard a very sensible explanation for evangelical christianity last night, from the British actor James Fox. he took leave of a very successful movie career after the film 'Performance' to join the Navigators & study scripture seriously. took some lowly work, free of the comfort zone. he spoke well of the experience.
Avatar 12:01pm Mr Fab:

thought this was Sun Ra
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Otis Fodder:

@Linda - Long-term plan is not more than a decade left in the city (where I am proper on a busy street) to a small place in the country.
Avatar 12:02pm Jason Elbogen:

Fab, it's funny, but a couple of songs on the double lp do really sound like SUN Ra....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Rich in Washington:

Where I live, it's sometimes someone randomly firing up a chainsaw, someone steps out their backdoor and fires a few shots from a gun, a big pickup tears down the road really loudly. Plus, I am sure our hillbilly neighbors have lots of unexploded fireworks from last night, which I am sure they will take care of right about the time I go on air today.
Avatar 12:03pm Linda Lee:

good for you, Otis! i'm here to share experience on that process any time. it really is a reinvention of expectations!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Otis Fodder:

Some righteous numbers here for sure. Really like this one, 'He Has Seen A Vision'... Fab, def hearing a Sun Ra performance vibe here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Otis Fodder:

Oh and speaking of 'performance'... love it and they put out a coffee table book that I has been on my want list since last year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Otis Fodder:

"i has been" of course should be 'has been'.
Avatar 12:06pm Linda Lee:

my favorite film, i think.
20 years after the fact, when Fox talks about Chas .. he takes on an attitude. fascinating.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Otis Fodder:

Great, great film Linda, yesss.
Avatar 12:07pm Linda Lee:

i hear you there for sure, Rich.
Avatar 12:07pm Mr Fab:

Barrance Whitfield's Sun Ra tribute album is on my wish list. (Along with about a million other things)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Otis Fodder:

Ha, I know Rich... you are up high too in the mountains. I have a lot of love for small towns and country life and the noise sure is a different bag then city noise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Otis Fodder:

@Fab - Yes! I want that too.
Avatar 12:09pm Mr Fab:

Wow, "Dear Mr. Small Man" was real outsider/private press (song-poem?) stuff. Does mr World's Worst Records know about this one?
Avatar 12:10pm Linda Lee:

a friend & i went to see it on first release in theaters. big stones fans. couldn't make it out at all. (11 years old. enough said.) now i see a masterpiece! i've been around the block some, of course..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Rich in Washington:

@Otis: At least it's not a constant din, which I quite grew used to when I was an urban dweller, but out here, in frontier-land, everyone has their own unique loud footprint. It can be nice and quiet, and then suddenly something loud.
Avatar 12:12pm Linda Lee:

that's my neighborhood too, Rich. we don't have the same filters here, either.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Otis Fodder:

@Rich - That's a good example/comparision. Too many footprints here. 2 car alarms today, alone... usually there is one a week but 2 today. And of course it took someone about 10min to get to the second one.
Avatar 12:13pm Linda Lee:

it's enough to send me back to town! :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Otis Fodder:

I'm so numb to it now. I have adapted work to the sounds of the city. When I make it out to the country, another adaptation will occur to the silence and bursts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Rich in Washington:

I'm glad though that our county has come down hard on fireworks in recent years. It used to sound like WW2 out here, with hillbillies and the like setting off huge explosions from late june to well after the fourth. They've limited sales to just a few days before the 4th and limited the days that one can set them off to the evening of the fourth. Not that that stops all of them, but it's really limited it, for which I'm thankful. We've lost two cats on separate 4ths and had an old dog who would be absolutely terrified during fireworks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Rich in Washington:

Sounds corny, but at least the city seemed to have a rhythm to it. You could sort of put music on and tune it out.
Avatar 12:17pm Mr Fab:

Mrs Fab and i were a bit unnerved when we moved from North Hollywood to a more quiet suburban 'hood in the Valley - we couldn't sleep, it took a bit of getting used to
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Rich in Washington:

and despite all the above, it's actually quite quiet up here most of the time, for which I am grateful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Otis Fodder:

@Rich - Fireworks and pets. We have summer fireworks here once a week now at 10pm and every week, the cat here freaks out and talking with fellow pet owners it is a subject we commiserate on.
Avatar 12:19pm Linda Lee:

it really is all about our filtering capabilities ~ our resilience!
there are ways to help our poor animals see through the 4th. "rescue remedy' & similar. it's just a shame we have to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Otis Fodder:

@Jason - Loving this selection of private press tracks. Very lovely. This set is like something I would play on my show, all top.
Avatar 12:20pm Mr Fab:

was wondering if this is all still xian, cuz i haven't noticed anything too preachy lately
Avatar 12:22pm Jason Elbogen:

I've Lost faith.
Avatar 12:25pm Mr Fab:

school record!
Avatar 12:34pm Linda Lee:

Avatar 12:35pm Linda Lee:

just chatting with a deeply christian acquaintance now. i do believe she's the most litigious person i've ever met.
Avatar 12:37pm Linda Lee:

she's also the first person i've heard call asian people 'gooks' in decades. she's not even a world war 2 vet!
Avatar 12:39pm Mr Fab:

Hilarious, Linda! Sad, but made me laff.
Avatar 12:40pm Linda Lee:

it is pretty surreal in the present ..
Avatar 12:41pm Mr Fab:

This Thai stuff is great. "Tell Someone To Go Out to the Discoteque" - Um , ok. Anyone in particular? Linda's christian acquaintance perhaps?
Avatar 12:43pm Mr Fab:

Aw, my fave African outsider kook. Go, Chief, go!
Avatar 12:44pm Linda Lee:

i cant think of quite a few folks who really should go.
Avatar 12:54pm Linda Lee:

fabulous records. just amazing.
Avatar 12:54pm Mr Fab:

real William Onyeabor kinda thing goin on here
Avatar 12:55pm Linda Lee:

yes. beautiful vibe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, sure enjoying this good plague, Jason!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Jan Turkenburg:

And I don't think I have heard any of these tracks before.
Avatar 1:03pm Linda Lee:

this Manoir Molle track is just wonderful.
Avatar 1:04pm Linda Lee:

this is all just terrific.
  1:05pm Martinibomb:

Hello Jason. Just dropping in for a second. Gotcha on in the background. Hope everyone is doing good today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hi MB!
Avatar 1:06pm Linda Lee:

how can we possibly be doing poorly with Rose-Marie on the radio?
Avatar 1:07pm Linda Lee:

good to see you MB!
Avatar 1:09pm Linda Lee:

just thought of Robin Byrd & 'Let Me Bang Your Box' .. for some obscure reason.
Avatar 1:11pm Mr Fab:

versions of 'Let Me Bang Your Box' are in the Sheena stream, so they might have seeped into your consciousness somehow
Avatar 1:13pm Linda Lee:

oh my! really? i also watched a heck of a lot of nyc public access as an innocent..
Avatar 1:14pm Linda Lee:

it really was amazing fun.
Avatar 1:15pm Linda Lee:

pet fantasy project: sound works based on public access audio. :-D
Avatar 1:18pm Linda Lee:

the title of the collection might come from this headline: nypost.com...
Avatar 1:26pm Mr Fab:

ha ha, love that title! yeah, i used to visit my Manhattan relatives in the '80s, and def saw some eye-popping stuff. LA public access didn't have much nekkid stuff, but plenty of wonderful loonies. I should write an article for the Sheena blog.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Jan Turkenburg:

Now that's an interesting article, Linda Lee! :-) I didn't know any of this.
Avatar 1:33pm Linda Lee:

i'd love reading about the LA difference, Mr Fab!
we had some amazing music programming in ny too ~ 'live from cbgb' was great.
Avatar 1:35pm Linda Lee:

that was around 76 or 77. fabulous.
Avatar 1:40pm Linda Lee:

look up anton perich. i loved his stuff best! he's on a direct line from the warhol factory to the present.
Avatar 1:45pm Mr Fab:

There was a Live from CBGB show, how did I not know that?! Wonder if anything survives from it..
Avatar 1:47pm Mr Fab:

apart from David Leibe Hart, other LA public access stars repped in the Sheena stream:
Avatar 1:51pm Linda Lee:

yes, the show was called 'live from cbgb'. that's how i found out about the club! sure do hope some footage survives somewhere. so many great bands on simple black & white verite'..
  1:51pm Martinibomb:

Great show today Jason! Thank you for all the music.
Avatar 1:52pm Linda Lee:

yes. fantastic show. thanks, Jason!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Jan Turkenburg:

Perfect vibe for me, Jason and so many discoveries too. Thanks!
Avatar 1:53pm Mr Fab:

KILLER debut, here in your new radio-home. This show is a nice way to ease into the increasing insanity of the Friday lineup here.
Avatar 1:57pm Mr Fab:

And now! Former fill-in/now regular host Jan is up next with his Dutch beat grooviness, Euro thrift-store wonders, and who knows what else: www.wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Otis Fodder:

Really nice first show selections Jason. Have a wonderful weekend.
Avatar 1:58pm worldsworstrecords:

sorry to be so late to the show...
  1:59pm Martinibomb:

Have a good weekend Jason!
