Listener comments!

  12:09am PNW THC:

nice, i was just talking about and playing this tune for my wife two days ago
  12:10am PNW THC:

both studio and live in seattle ;)
  12:11am markr:

Yes, this studio version is just the jumping off point.
  12:14am PNW THC:

so good. ken schaphorst with medeski martin and wood is another excellent version but nothing beats trane when it comes to trane
  12:15am markr:

You know, I confess I'm not familiar with Mr. Schaphorst, but I'm a big fan of Medeski, Martin & Wood, so I'll check it out--I'm sure it's excellent!
  12:16am rw:

Man. I can't think of anything better than early '60s Coltrane. Gets me every fucking time.

  12:18am markr:

Howdy, and I agree about early 60s Trane. This album, "Live at Birdland" and "A Love Supreme" are three of the greatest albums ever recorded, by anyone, ever.
  12:19am Dean:

So many greatest albums...
  12:20am markr:

True, Dean. Thank God I'm not living on that proverbial desert island. Think of all the great records I'd have to leave behind!
  12:21am PNW THC:

  12:25am Dean:

OTOH, I can pretty clearly define my desert island portfolio. First, Tragicomedia's recital of Anna Magdalena's Notebook; second, a random assortment of Telemann; third, the first Damned album; fourth (and as I intimated earlier today to Kurt G.) the entire Bridge Records catalog; and fifth, one or another traversal of the Beethoven piano sonatas, or Bach's Goldberg Variations, or the Shostakovich String Quartets.

Tough decisions.
  12:26am Dean:

Oh, shoot, also Wolfgang Mitterer's Radio Fractal.
  12:28am rw:

I like the Live at Village Vanguard LP but I rarely put it on. When I do I find myself kind of frozen. Unable to do much of anything but stand there with my jaw a little slack. Nice selections so far. Looking forward to seeing where we go from here!
Dean, you going to have room for food on that island?
  12:29am Dean:

Food? Yeah, that's the Telemann.
  12:34am Dean:

News break: Former Justice John Paul Stevens has died. The historical and legal implications will unfold in days to come, but I think of him in terms of my having taken the California bar examination with a law school classmate who went on to clerk for him.
  12:40am Dean:

I might have been in utero when my parents heard Billie just months prior to her demise.
  12:46am Bryant Ausa:

searching for my porridge and coffee. hey mark and everyone.
  12:51am markr:

Good luck with that porridge, Goldilocks. Here's wishing it's just right.
Avatar 12:52am DouglasInDallas:

@Dean: "Although we may never know with complete certainty the identity of the winner of this year's Presidential election," Stevens wrote, "the identity of the loser is perfectly clear. It is the Nation's confidence in the judge as an impartial guardian of the rule of law."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53am coelacanth∅:

greetings markr and others others who may or may not know time is imaginary
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56am coelacanth∅:

saw a band tonight called "rapture". as should be expected they kinda sucked.
Avatar 12:56am DouglasInDallas:

Shit @coelacanth∅ i had some of that in a bottle. .. Stuffs mouth real?!
Avatar 12:57am DouglasInDallas:

Lol *not real
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57am northguineahills:

I was infatuated w/ "A Ghost is Born', and I was about 26 when I picked it up.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59am coelacanth∅:

how much time can one fit in a bottle anyway? i guess it depends on the bottle, and if it's circular time or the even more illusive digital time...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04am northguineahills:

mi encanta muscia en espanol!
  1:13am markr:

There is nothing wrong with your equipment, our equipment, our equipment operator, your ears or your brain--it's actually supposed to sound like this.
  1:14am markr:

Well, there's obviously something wrong with your brain, why else would you be listening to this show? But it has nothing to do with how the music sounds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17am coelacanth∅:

i wonder what my housemate thinks of me coming home at 1 am and cranking wfmu
  1:35am Pete fro Aus:

Maybe they should save money on the colour and spend the money on a record without the crackles. Yes, that’s how we spell colour in the rest of the world. :)
  1:40am markr:

I agree, Pete. I've got a whole rant cued up about how groovy and wonderful vinyl is. We'll see how we're doing on time--I'm not gonna cut a song for it, but damn, that crackle got under my skin. Cool, your housemate LOVES you, it's not like you're cranking BAD music.
  1:42am markr:

Coelecanth, every time I try to write your name, this damn thing autocorrects me. Of course, you ARE cool, you're cool as hell, but that's not the point. And no one cool ever called THEMSELVES Cool. Jesus, do I have to explain everything to this furshluginer (ed. not--tribute to the late MAD magazine) laptop?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54am coelacanth∅:

Mark what does it autoincorrect it to?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56am coelacanth∅:

(possible solution: "c")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59am coelacanth∅:

the "booty" the records are the booty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01am northguineahills:

As much as Coelecanth's name is correct for the fist, A third of words I type that are correct, get autocrorrected. (and they're correct)

I just got to my Gs packing my CSs, it only took me 3 days. (it will take me forever to pack my vinyl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03am northguineahills:

(a-g, I'm a alphacedadarian).
  2:03am markr:

You're moving, Northguinea?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04am coelacanth∅:

i have lots of clean skip-free vinyl
the only albums that i got brand new (besides bootlegs) that had crackles or pops right out of the package are "the beatles" ("white album") which i attribute to capitol records sucking ass; and (coincidentally) "introducing the beatles" (pops...big bumps on the record) - because veejay was poor.
  2:06am markr:

Well, come on!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11am coelacanth∅:

one of the fairly crappy metal bands tonight played "seek and destroy" and "hallowed be my name" -both covers of some more famous "metal" bands' songs
so between bands a had to play the songs those titles/themes were jacked from..."search and destroy" by the stooges and "hallowed be my name
by alice cooper
didn't get a rise out of anyone though.
  2:14am markr:

Dig the guy rocking the trombone!
  2:15am AbscondingtoCuba:

Sounds good to me, coelacanth∅. Was listening to Halloween's 'No One Gets Out' earlier and thinking I was likely the only person in New York doing so at that moment.
  2:19am markr:

Come on, humans
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20am coelacanth∅:

come on die young
Avatar 2:24am tak:

AHA yeaa piraaanhaaa
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26am northguineahills:

@mark: I'm still waiting on 8 job threads, so, I terminated my lease, and will stay w/ my brother until I get one of these jobs. Half are in St. Pete/Tampa, half are in Gainesville (which I'd prefer, liberal cultural/artistic oasis, cost of living, and 15 minute commutes, and walking distance from the bars/clubs.
  2:28am markr:

OK well good luck. WFMU shall be your constant, loyal companion through it all.
Avatar 2:30am tak:

says it like that cus it's kind of a slur
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37am grtyvr:

the last hour has been awesome... just tuned in.
  2:40am markr:

Glad you're enjoying, grtyvr. tak, if you're referring to my use of the word "weird," I went out of my way to explain that I did NOT mean it as a slur. "Weird" as in kinda offbeat and wacky and fun. No slur intended.
Avatar 2:42am tak:

no sorry i misheard i thought you meant the way he said piranha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43am coelacanth∅:

must depart
Thank you Mark
good night all
  2:48am markr:

Night Coelacanth! Well, I enjoyed Mr. Alipio's shall we say "original" performance. I thought it was fun, and I was just having a little fun with it myself. That's the spirit in which it was intended. Being 3 in the morning and all, that's when the kooks and the crackpots (like me) really get rockin'.
Avatar 2:50am tak:

it did rock! thanks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52am grtyvr:

thanks for the tunes. 'nite all
  2:58am AbscondingtoCuba:

Long time since I've heard this one. Levitating now.
  5:04am mappletone:
