PNW THC:

nice, i was just talking about and playing this tune for my wife two days ago
  12:10am
PNW THC:

both studio and live in seattle ;)
  12:11am
markr:

Yes, this studio version is just the jumping off point.
  12:14am
PNW THC:

so good. ken schaphorst with medeski martin and wood is another excellent version but nothing beats trane when it comes to trane
  12:15am
markr:

You know, I confess I'm not familiar with Mr. Schaphorst, but I'm a big fan of Medeski, Martin & Wood, so I'll check it out--I'm sure it's excellent!
  12:16am
rw:

Man. I can't think of anything better than early '60s Coltrane. Gets me every fucking time.

Howdy!
  12:18am
markr:

Howdy, and I agree about early 60s Trane. This album, "Live at Birdland" and "A Love Supreme" are three of the greatest albums ever recorded, by anyone, ever.
  12:19am
Dean:

So many greatest albums...
  12:20am
markr:

True, Dean. Thank God I'm not living on that proverbial desert island. Think of all the great records I'd have to leave behind!

PNW THC:

  12:25am
Dean:

OTOH, I can pretty clearly define my desert island portfolio. First, Tragicomedia's recital of Anna Magdalena's Notebook; second, a random assortment of Telemann; third, the first Damned album; fourth (and as I intimated earlier today to Kurt G.) the entire Bridge Records catalog; and fifth, one or another traversal of the Beethoven piano sonatas, or Bach's Goldberg Variations, or the Shostakovich String Quartets.

Tough decisions.
  12:26am
Dean:

Oh, shoot, also Wolfgang Mitterer's Radio Fractal.
  12:28am
rw:

I like the Live at Village Vanguard LP but I rarely put it on. When I do I find myself kind of frozen. Unable to do much of anything but stand there with my jaw a little slack. Nice selections so far. Looking forward to seeing where we go from here!
Dean, you going to have room for food on that island?
  12:29am
Dean:

Food? Yeah, that's the Telemann.
  12:34am
Dean:

News break: Former Justice John Paul Stevens has died. The historical and legal implications will unfold in days to come, but I think of him in terms of my having taken the California bar examination with a law school classmate who went on to clerk for him.
  12:40am
Dean:

I might have been in utero when my parents heard Billie just months prior to her demise.

@Dean: "Although we may never know with complete certainty the identity of the winner of this year's Presidential election," Stevens wrote, "the identity of the loser is perfectly clear. It is the Nation's confidence in the judge as an impartial guardian of the rule of law."

There is nothing wrong with your equipment, our equipment, our equipment operator, your ears or your brain--it's actually supposed to sound like this.
  1:14am

Well, there's obviously something wrong with your brain, why else would you be listening to this show? But it has nothing to do with how the music sounds.

Pete fro Aus:

Maybe they should save money on the colour and spend the money on a record without the crackles. Yes, that’s how we spell colour in the rest of the world. :)
  1:40am
markr:

I agree, Pete. I've got a whole rant cued up about how groovy and wonderful vinyl is. We'll see how we're doing on time--I'm not gonna cut a song for it, but damn, that crackle got under my skin. Cool, your housemate LOVES you, it's not like you're cranking BAD music.
  1:42am
markr:

Coelecanth, every time I try to write your name, this damn thing autocorrects me. Of course, you ARE cool, you're cool as hell, but that's not the point. And no one cool ever called THEMSELVES Cool. Jesus, do I have to explain everything to this furshluginer (ed. not--tribute to the late MAD magazine) laptop?

As much as Coelecanth's name is correct for the fist, A third of words I type that are correct, get autocrorrected. (and they're correct)

I just got to my Gs packing my CSs, it only took me 3 days. (it will take me forever to pack my vinyl.

coelacanth∅:

i have lots of clean skip-free vinyl
the only albums that i got brand new (besides bootlegs) that had crackles or pops right out of the package are "the beatles" ("white album") which i attribute to capitol records sucking ass; and (coincidentally) "introducing the beatles" (pops...big bumps on the record) - because veejay was poor.
  2:06am
markr:

Well, come on!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11am
coelacanth∅:

one of the fairly crappy metal bands tonight played "seek and destroy" and "hallowed be my name" -both covers of some more famous "metal" bands' songs
so between bands a had to play the songs those titles/themes were jacked from..."search and destroy" by the stooges and "hallowed be my name
by alice cooper
didn't get a rise out of anyone though.

Half are in St. Pete/Tampa, half are in Gainesville (which I'd prefer, liberal cultural/artistic oasis, cost of living, and 15 minute commutes, and walking distance from the bars/clubs.

Night Coelacanth! Well, I enjoyed Mr. Alipio's shall we say "original" performance. I thought it was fun, and I was just having a little fun with it myself. That's the spirit in which it was intended. Being 3 in the morning and all, that's when the kooks and the crackpots (like me) really get rockin'.
