This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Hi Geez!
  7:25pm JtotheK:

Hi Flash and explorers!!!
Avatar 7:25pm geezerette:

On this expedition I'll be making field notes with sketches. Gathered plenty of crow quills, sharpened in advance, plan to use berries for ink...or sorbet.
Avatar 7:26pm geezerette:

Hiya, Chresti!
Avatar 7:27pm Flash Strap:

Hi Geezerette! Couldn't be happier to have an illustrator on this expedition! just like capt. Cook

There might be alligators...the Neverland kind...

one of the better covers in the series here: img.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm melinda:

I don't often check the Frequently Played Music list but did today and was happy to see that Mort Garson's Mother Earth's Plantasia has been reissued, as it was one of my favorite discoveries from this show.
Avatar 8:26pm Flash Strap:

sort of a woozy dissonance in this one
Avatar 8:26pm hyde:

great stuff
Avatar 8:27pm TDK60:

..in the prior show when you played Colorsound music, did you post a page with all their album covers?
Avatar 8:28pm Flash Strap:

@Melinda: i got my copy a couple weeks ago, they did a very VERY nice job with everything, I feel like I'm getting to hear it for the first time and it sounds so good. comes with the booklet and everything
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm passiflora:

love this
Avatar 8:28pm Flash Strap:

@TDK: i did - wfmu.org...
Avatar 8:29pm Flash Strap:

didn't do it for this one because the art is generally much less compelling for some reason, but you can see it all here: www.discogs.com...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm melinda:

@Flash that's exciting!

Avatar 8:53pm Flash Strap:

oh, my great pleasure Steveo
Avatar 8:54pm TDK60:

There was a gamelan set in or near their studio? This was in Munich?
Avatar 8:57pm Flash Strap:

I've no idea how this was recorded - usually if recordings were made on site the notes would make mention of it. Seems like VDB recorded this, so probably in Munich, but by himself or with an authentic ensemble I don't know

Avatar 9:09pm Flash Strap:

Hi UM! And Coelacanth! old fish, some of this has been germane to your person
Avatar 9:09pm Flash Strap:

@LD: ha yeah this is a big Italo disco monster
Avatar 9:11pm Flash Strap:

it;s a little corny but i have to say i dig most of the sounds
Avatar 9:12pm TDK60:

Welcome to Mars marvelous people, shuffle then jump!..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

To match the Moonshot stuff on the mainstream...
Avatar 9:13pm northguineahills:

@UM: if you had Asian small-clawed otters you could have an edition of the Muppets Emmett and his jug band....
Avatar 9:13pm Flash Strap:

Avatar 9:14pm TDK60:

my meter tells me it's a tad corny. In '83 I would have made some snarky utterance, hee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I in fact have a memory of Ray Bradbury's 'Martian Chronicles' being set to such a track on TV...
Avatar 9:15pm Flash Strap:

@TDK: for sure. but in 2019 it's a piece of history with some diggably trippy flourishes
Avatar 9:17pm Flash Strap:

@rev: i've never seen that, but I've read it. how was the show?
Avatar 9:18pm coelacanth∅:

oh i see! waterworld!
Avatar 9:18pm TDK60:

Flash, I'm younger than that now. [ex. of possible '83 snark: ahh, put on some Killing Joke or Specials or Peter Tosh!]
Avatar 9:19pm Flash Strap:

@C: there was a lot of watery stuff before you swam in
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I have impression of disappointment...
Avatar 9:20pm Flash Strap:

ah that's how i felt about the book too tbh
Avatar 9:21pm Flash Strap:

cool illustrations however
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...despite Rock Hudson. as I recall...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm chresti:

what's going on in the grease plant?
Avatar 9:21pm Flash Strap:

The Now Generation has some impressively aggressive industrial percussion, it's really out there stuff all through
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Well Bradbury taught me to read....
Avatar 9:23pm coelacanth∅:

they're growing grease plants in the grease plant, and Fonzie's working there, but he's actually a plant.
Avatar 9:23pm Flash Strap:

@rev: then i shan't poo poo him further
Avatar 9:24pm TDK60:

..to use an archaic slang, this /is/ groovy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm Uncle Michael:

These sound way cleaner than my 320k needle drop.
Avatar 9:25pm Flash Strap:

@UM: can't remember where or when i picked up this rip
Avatar 9:25pm Little Danny:

What TDK said. A lot of parts going on in "Chemical Threat," all of them good
Avatar 9:26pm Flash Strap:

it does sound good
Avatar 9:26pm coelacanth∅:

i think of Bradbury as i think of Orwell...not a graceful writer but a great storymaker.
Avatar 9:27pm Flash Strap:

very unusual record, even for an unusual label
  9:28pm Dean:

Bradbury signed my copy of Martian Chronicles on Feb. 26, 1979, when I met him in college. He was impressed with the edition, which was one of those book club issues from Time. I'd picked it up in a used bookstore.
Avatar 9:29pm Flash Strap:

Hi Dean!
  9:30pm Dean:

Avatar 9:30pm Flash Strap:

nice goofy moogs here, very freewheelin LP
Avatar 9:33pm Flash Strap:

one of the worst covers, however: img.discogs.com...
Avatar 9:33pm northguineahills:

In 1983, I was at my friends pool, while his older sister played Madonna. I had no idea what was snark back then, but I knew of the snorks (speaking of fantasy ichthyology).
Avatar 9:34pm northguineahills:

I like that cover for some reason.
Avatar 9:35pm Flash Strap:

it does have a certain reading rainbow sense of cool
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm Doug Schulkind:

Very Vandroogenbroeck, everyone!
  9:36pm Dean:

Fairness in advertising, I'd call it. Goofy cover = goofy Moogs.
Avatar 9:36pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar 9:39pm Flash Strap:

Avatar 9:39pm Little Danny:

Heh. I appreciate that cover as well, mostly for being so of its time, place and intended function.
Avatar 9:39pm coelacanth∅:

heh, Evan well- colored pencil hippie art. it's a family tradition here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm chresti:

The Coloursound covers are all done by the same person?
  9:40pm Dean:

For some reason (equivalent goofiness?) the cover of the Mikola LP reminds me of Symphonic Slam.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm melinda:

@ngh I liked the Reading Rainbow theme song even though I was too old for the show.
Avatar 9:42pm Flash Strap:

@chresti: mostly, yeah. Waltraud Greffenius, wife of Walter Greffenius. I generally like them but when i say that's my least favorite it's because there's a lot of similar covers to compare it to
  9:43pm Dean:

Sort of a back-handed insult?
Avatar 9:43pm geezerette:

Music for touring Chernobyl.
Avatar 9:44pm northguineahills:

@melinda: I was slightly older then the demographic (I was already ready encyclopedias and fiction novels by age 7), but I watched it w/ my younger brothers as it was interesting. That, and it came after sesame street and electric company and I would try to date every sketch [b/c i'm weird].
Avatar 9:44pm northguineahills:
