The second Defunkt album, =Thermonuclear Sweat=, is acknowledged as excellent as well as the first. The third album, =In America=, I think is fcking great. But mostly I’m alone on that, and yes it’s a little slick. After that it’s mostly downhill, but still, pretty good sometimes.

Avatar 9:23pm

'Rip It Up/Ready Teddy' off Lennon's 'Rock n Roll' is real rockin' -and some of the others too, but I feel it's overproduced, too many players.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm
coelacanth∅:

hey Carmichael i know you were into me reading finnegan's wake but i've done a bit of research and as i've never read Joyce i've decided to read dubliners first, then ulysses, the finnegan's wake.
'make sense?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm
coelacanth∅:

(...i had trouble with Gabriel Garcia-Márquez at first then used the strategy of reading a collection of shorts first and it did the trick beautifully.)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm

ha ha Carmichael
  9:43pm
Carmichael:

Good move, coel. Dubliners is a kind of a greatest hits (especially the last story), and will give you a good feel for his narrative. Portrait of the Artist is also a good accessible work.
  9:45pm
Carmichael:

Life is a Dream is Marquez’ greatest work. It stands by itself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm
chresti:

Thanks, Bill, very enjoyable!
Avatar 9:46pm
Scraps:

Dubliners, then Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, then Ulysses, then FW, yes, definitely

(Finnegans Wake doesn’t have an apostrophe, by the way)
  9:47pm
Carmichael:

And I can’t say enough good things about Josef Conrad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm
coelacanth∅:

cool. i read somewhere that some of the characters found in dubliners appear later in ulysses. that's what i experienced with Garcia-Márquez as well and it was fun putting the pieces together. (i use this example because Garcia-Márquez is another that's known for (if not accused of) being "challenging")
  9:48pm
Carmichael:

Joyce will explain what KMRIA stands for.
Avatar 9:48pm
Scraps:

ME TOO. Love Conrad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm
coelacanth∅:

oh i didn't even see your second comment. that's one i've not read. (Life is a dream)
  9:50pm
Carmichael:

Early Kinks were so dance hall and shambolic. I loved this whole era.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm
coelacanth∅:

Thank you Scraps.
...i have to finish Love in the time of cholera first. (what must be one of Garcia-Márquez' "least challenging" works)
  Swag For Life Member 9:52pm
Jinx:

enjoyed the show, Bill. take care.
Avatar 9:53pm
Bill Mac:

Thanks Jinx... hey thanks all, gotta start making ready for the next shift... stay cool...
