Linda Lee:

wow. beautiful voice, incredible music.
hi Gary! are the bodegas really leaving the island city?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm
Gary:

Hi, Linda! Bodegas are vanishing at the rate of one or two a week, according to an article I read a while back. I don't know if that's still true, but what I do know is true is that the opportunities to find physical media in them are definitely drying up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm
Gary:

Last year at this time there were two places on Steinway still selling Arabic CDs and cassettes. Both places have stopped selling them and the inventory has vanished
Avatar 8:10pm
Linda Lee:

gosh, i'm sorry to hear that. what's going on? digital media?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm
Franco Twinkie:

Hi Gary. I just woke up from a very disturbing dream: I came in the house for awhile and when I went back outside someone had removed our bushes, trees and fence. All the neighbors were different and we seemed to be under nuclear attack because there was all this very peculiar activity in the air.. No one could or would tell me what was going on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm
Gary:

Franco! Yeah, basically, physical media is becoming obsolescent
Avatar 8:13pm
Linda Lee:

sounds nasty, Franco.
but then, dreams are the place for us to experience & work out difficult emotions safely..
Avatar 8:14pm
Linda Lee:

that's really too bad. common ground removed..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm
Doug Schulkind:

History will one day turn to you, Gary, for stories of the bodega.
Avatar 8:15pm
Linda Lee:

yet another way we're being driven to isolate.
Avatar 🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 8:15pm
chresti:

Franco, were there any missionaries or conquistadors?
Avatar 8:16pm
Linda Lee:

& who was it who decided we no longer need or want analogue media? i don't remember being consulted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm
Franco Twinkie:

I think I must have heard you talking about that while I was asleep, and just twisted it around. I fell asleep during Kenzos, show and woke up about fifteen minutes ago. But yes, it's getting harder to find newspapers. All the vending machines are smashed in and full of trash.
Avatar 8:21pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43pm

Linda, me too! I remember once telling my father that I would consider all the miserable shit about summer in L.A. worth enduring if I could just sleep under a tree for a couple of nights.
Avatar 8:45pm

Gary, I don't pretend to know my way around Europe much. But I will point out that Spain is only a hop away from England. I'd be interested in what music you might turn up there.

Anyway, the take away from this afternoons bad dream was this: As I was standing there looking at our exposed house it seemed like an excellent time to paint it now that all the bushes were gone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm

Spain is expensive! OMG, I could stay for three weeks in Istanbul for what it would take for one week in Barcelona

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm

I am crying now thinking about those cats
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm
melinda:

In the same article I read that called Istanbul a cat lover's paradise (sign me up!) they also said it wasn't a cheap city to travel in, which must mean that Barcelona is outrageous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm
melinda:

Then again they didn't say what their point of reference was, might have been Albania.
Avatar 9:00pm

Another archive listen comment. Yes, bodega / local ethnic neighborhood physical audio / video media is fading fast. Live in the 74th and Roosevelt station area in Queens and there used to be three or four places primarily devoted to South Asian / Bollywood and another half dozen appliance / dry goods places that all had CD and DVD. I think that is all gone now. A few Latin American bodegas on Roosevelt had music and vids as well. Have not checked recently. I assume mostly due to every one listens and watches on their phones now.
