Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm

around spring i ate in a turkish restaurant in my town and the music was fantastic. i asked the waiter and he gave me the name of his spotify playlist, which i listened to a lot for a few weeks. he described it -i forget but he named 3 artists, the beatles being one and Jimi Hendrix i think...said it was like the turkish equivalent. anyway it's psych. i might even recognise some of the songs tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm

Franco yeah it's brutal out there right now! 130% humidity!
Avatar 7:14pm

@Gary hot tip: if you ever get to Houston, the Hong Kong City Mall still has a pretty big Vietnamese DVD/CD store with lots of stuff priced at 2$. I got a few CDs that look like they're singers from the 70's I didn't know.

64°F here. It's nice not to have to turn on the AC. The windows are open and the breezes are soft.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm

i think it was only maybe 80ºf here today but it stormed heavy before. i had to walk the grounds after to see if a tree came down because it sounded like it. just a 12' piece of molding came off the house.
i thought that would blow out some humidity but it was much worse after. the windows are all dripping.

Avatar 7:23pm
hyde:

also Houston is really sprawling and not built for pedestrians. So it's ride share all over when you go. But that's not too expensive there and it let's you know what an immigrant city this is--I got picked up by citizens who had moved from Jamaica, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, etc.

The Fine Arts Museum and the Menil Collection are world class. It's hot, but there's usu. a breeze from the Gulf. The landscape is kind of strange--it's strip malls like crazy and there is no zoning so it's all a jumble. But that also means that a residential neighborhood might hold a great bbq joint or a weird bar or maybe there's a strip club next to the church. (I exaggerate, but that's kind of the urban setup.)

Rafts of regional Mexican food. I like that! It conjures images of combination plates floating through the shipping channels.
Avatar 7:31pm
hyde:

@ngh the dang Rothko Chapel is closed for restoration until 2020, so I didn't get to see it! argh. but the Menil collection surrealist and African and Oceanic works made that a totally worthwhile visit anyhow. (especially cause it's free!)
Avatar 7:31pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm

NGH, oh man, a couple of weeks ago I was at the farmers market and one of the guys I get stone fruit from was eating a tub of menudo. He said he got it from this place on the corner that I've never had occasion to go into because it just looks like a lame-ass burger joint. Boy was I wrong! The burger trappings are just a clever disguise. I took a tub of menudo home and had my mind blown.

NGH, This is most likely no solution to your predicament, but what the hell: When I was in high school I went with a friend to his grandfathers house. They sat on the couch and played guitars. Out of the blue, the grandfather asked me if I liked menudo. When I said yes, he got up and went into the kitchen and got a can of soup and said very emphatically "This is excellent! Menududito brand." and stabbed the label with his finger. It would have made a great commercial, because he looked like an Apache Indian - long black hair with a rag tied around his head, a bright red plaid flannel shirt and fringed moccasin boots.
