The George Carlin observation that I think was on Laugh-in, was the revelation that new number had been discovered between 6 and 7. Scientist named it Bleen. I liked that.
9/11, I was in Loisaida, my gf was on the bus to work, and I turned on the TV and thought a cesna hit the tower. I got my gf's camera, got on the roof, and made a ton of pics (I was less then 1.5 miles away). W/ the telephoto lens, what I thought were windows popping out, I noticed it was people. I developed the pics, never looked at them, and gave them to my parents and bros.
Born in Brooklyn. And remember walking out of my apartment on Atlantic Avenue on 9-11, looking to the left and just seeing that huge plume of smoke. Since I had friends in Lower Manhattan that day, I just decided to wall over the Brooklyn Bridge. Brought my camera along. Got turned away on the Manhattan side for obvious reasons. Have a photo gallery from that experience here: www.flickr.com...
Also, look at this pic from WPIX on September 13th. Note how they just bluntly folded the background image so the World Trade Center towers were not visible. www.flickr.com...
I never went close again to the WTC until my brother and sis-in-law were doing dumbass touristy stuff and wanted me to show them around the 9/ll memorial museum four years ago. I had to drink a fifth of whiskey beforehand just to get near, but after going through the museuam, I'm better now...
@northguineahills You bring up something significant which is that people who lived here are usually NOT keen to reminisce over photos or visit the site. I was the same way.
Eh, nothing too special. I got out of the subway at 23rd and 5th between plane strikes. I saw the hole in the North Tower before the second plane hit but didn't think much of it right off.
The first CD I ever purchased was The Cars S/T in 1986 at Crazy Eddie. His prices were insane. I purchased most of my hi-fi system at Crazy Eddie, J&R and 6th Ave back in the 80s.
crazy eddie had the best record department in my area. $3.67 or $4.32(?) for a single album. i bought a lot of albums based on covers and song titles.
that's how i discovered the cure, a year or 2 before seemingly anyone else. ($3.67)
Ohio Amanda. Sorry I didn't realize you were here obviously. But that was an awesome set. Well Gaylord you never know it might be fun to open the mics and try to fill in the blanks.
In the recent movie Echos In The Canyon, a movie ostensibly about Los Angeles, the portion with John Sebastion walking in the park is a shocking and funny intrusion of muted blue and grey in a soup of yellow and orange.
i found a life-size, cut-out photograph of crazy eddie's face, on the sidewalk in new brunswick, round holes for eyeballs. i put it in the back window of my car and for years it got funny reactions

Alan Vega and Martin Rev were the soundtrack of the streets...the essence of NY...more than any other sound in that era....Ocasek producing the 2nd
Alan and Diane Arbus’s daughter was a pretty cool photographer in her own right. Lots of her street fashion pics were in the Village Voice back in the day. www.anothermag.com...
@JakeGould: Amy Arbus took the photo of several WFMU staffers (including this one) that illustrates a New York Times Magazine story about WFMU. www.wfmu.org...
@JffR & @JfFP: You'll probably need to download the free version of Real Player on a computer. It's a POS, bloated with adware, and tries to up-sell you to the paid version. I don't think there's a mobile app, but I may be mistaken. And if you're on Apple, I haven't a clue.
What a special show! Thanks folks! I'm gonna have to go back and listen to what I missed (and not just because I'm a square New Yorker, originally from Delaware)
Oh...I'm learning that the Drifters cut one with the original lyrics....Atlantic didn't want to release it so they had the lyrics changed to the patriotic version had Drifters cut it and then the Drifters didn't want that released. So Jay and the Americans ended up with it
