Good morning Jeff and listeners. It's raining here, so I'm staying in

Hey, @hyde! Welcome.

@LG: serves me right for operating purely on memory and not checking the calendar. Summer it is! (Also: "tuck ins?" Dunno what that is.)

@fred! Lovely to have you here on a rainy Parisian afternoon.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am
Jeff Golick:

Cheers, @fleep. I made a new pot this morning, but the water level markings on our carafe are very confusing to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32am
Jeff Golick:

See here: www.walmart.com...

Why do the "coffee" and "water" levels not align? It's madness.
Avatar 🥁 9:35am
Listener Gregory:

Maybe the "coffee" levels show how much coffee you will get if you put in that amount of water (as some is lost in the process or absorbed by the grounds)? That is, fill the water to 10, then you'll get the amount of coffee marked as 10 on the right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am
Jeff Golick:

That's my thought, too, @LG, but, I mean -- why not just have one level on the thing itself? There's also a water level measure on the machine itself... Anyway, it's more than I can take before my first coffee.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am
Jeff Golick:

Heya, @Stanley! I suppose if the friend can travel from Australia, then a shave is not too much to ask. Or is it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am
coelacanth∅:

so the moka basically steams the coffee grounds?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am

Re: Coltrane's birthday, I want to recommend the Miles Davis Bootleg #6 to those who don't have it. It's a quartet with Trane and Miles, and unlike some of their other live recordings, Miles plays a great deal, with no other competing horns. I thought it would be good, and it was better than I expected.

She writes on her website: "After a long hiatus caused by illness and the absence of an instrument, I have decided that the best thing I can do for myself is to do what I do, and be who I am. I love music, and I will soon release new music again if I am able. There are many things to do, and I will start slow, but speed alone is not music — soul and passion are. I am not done. The death of Dalachinsky is hitting many in the FMU orbit hard. I was never a outsize fan of his poetry, but he was a deeply kindred spirit. What every other person says is also true for me: Steve was seemingly at every gig I ever attended. Scientists could have studied his stamina.

I think he was at just about every one of the relatively few shows in NYC I've attended, too. Just learned from the NYT piece that he won a Josephine Miles award, which strikes me not because I know Miles' poetry -- I don't -- but because I think of her scholarship quite a bit. She was doing "big data" analysis of the works of poets long before computing took hold in the humanities.
