This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Thanks brother, just a little collage I've got set aside for (possibly) bigger things... was just staring into space in the studio this morning and realized it worked for the show today so I scanned it in

I've always loved this composition, I can't remember when I got ahold of this live version from the Paris tapes but it was very exciting to me. the original is under three minutes, this one clocks in at 15

Well, If you ever go, there is this odd museum called The Specula that is devoted to eviscerated bodies recreated in wax. For scientific research of course. But, as a side deal they also have these dioramas of hell, also done in wax, with heaps and piles of tormented souls about the size of Gumby.
Avatar 7:18pm
Flash Strap:

Holy shit Franco I am dying to see that place
Avatar 7:20pm

similar, but doubtless not quite that cool, I was at the Mütter museum earlier this summer. no hell diorama though

My soul is not only about the size of Gumby - but I reckon a similar consistency...which - if it is going to be tortured - is damn fortunate...

I think the title translated means "madness"
maybe something more like "madwoman", not sure

i'm reading this old naturalists book on Florida wildlife, and right now he's explaining the perils of hot-bugs and muck itch. Fun! Couple chapters ago he was talking about some fish he called a pusselgut, and i still have no clue what that is.

Avatar 7:33pm

@Rev: I know, controversial production. I love it man, I love what she does with strings generally but its great to hear them juxtaposed against a work she didn't specifically compose
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:34pm

That makes me think of ' A Modern Herbal', hyde,
Avatar 7:34pm
Flash Strap:

@hyde; which one should I watch first? I will abide by your recommendation so i don't have to choose
Avatar 7:37pm
hyde:

@Flash i'd watch La Cienaga first. it's a little rough since it's her first movie, but still great. Headless Woman is a lot more polished and confident, so probably best to watch chronologically

Well - losing Trane in Jazz was like losing Hendrix in Rawk.
We can only wonder What If
- & what would their interaction w/ what came later have been...
Jazz Lecturer Gordon Vernick said he imagines Coltrane going on to play shakuhachi on a mountaintop or something... I reckon Alice had as much idea as anyone.

Not too long ago a commenter tracked down the episode where a disgruntled listener lobbed the infamous "this shit sounds like marbles in a blender" insult at Bryce. I always assumed it was in response to Bryce playing some cool extreme noise, like totally-out-there, atonal, overwhelmingly dissonant craziness. But, as it turns out, that guy was reacting to a long set of **Terry Riley**! Beautiful and mostly melodic Terry Riley pieces!

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:20pm
Passaic River Blues:

@Melinda: absolutely! I try not to begrudge anyone their preferences or personal taste, but it just seems so incongruous to what was being played. And yeah, that insult was actually a gift which spawned a fantastic t-shirt.

@Melinda: their name is a little embarrassing

Franco Twinkie:

I was at the library, so I can't comment on the music. But I will comment on the comments. Bitchin Bajas sounds like an Ensenada style fish taco restaurant that would have surfboards stuck on the wall. Kind of stupid, but maybe really good. I wonder if that was that what they were thinking when they chose that name?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm
Doug Schulkind:

Fare me well!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm

According to the internet there is still a Miele store and service center where I went to buy replacement vacuum bags many years ago. It was a little space, I don't remember if there were tools on the walls. Not like an appliance showroom at least.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm
melinda:

@Franco exactly!
Avatar 9:26pm
Flash Strap:

I think they may have wanted to throw people off taking them too seriously, even though their music has a real sheen of "seriousness" – in a way it's really cool that a heady synth trio could be thought of in the same way, as having the same function even, as a trashy surf group, just by picking that name – but even so ...
