Hey yo, Joe! Do Surface Noise pledgers get a Yips icon by their names?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am pantz:

It's finally Autumn here in the Ohio Valley. Thank goodness!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am YETI BOB:

Here's a song about the sunshine, dedicated to the sunshine!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am Guido from Cologne:

Good morning Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am CHUCK ROAST:

Good morming, Joe. Hey. I got a better paying job this year and I wanted to bump up my swag for life contribution. Can I do that anytime?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am YETI BOB:

By the way, I've been donating money to this station since the 1980s - I have a whole drawerful of WFMU t-shirts - and there's not a single icon by my name. I guess I don't really care that much - I know I donated - but it makes me look kind of bad when everyone else has icons and I have none. Just letting you all know that I am not a cheapskate and I contribute to this wonderful station!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am LastWhiteRhino:

A post-Pulaski Day hello to Joe and all listeners !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12am YETI BOB:

Honestly I think I might prefer if nobody had the donor icons. Contributing should not be a spectator sport.
Avatar 9:14am Joe McG:

Hey folks! Welcome to the show, and thanks for tuning in. @Chuck: Sure, drop me an e-mail at jmcgasko@wfmu.org and we can work that out later on. @Yeti: I'll see what's going on with your icons after the show and get them on there for you. Thanks for helping us, as always!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am YETI BOB:

Thanks Joe! Keep up the good work!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am Krys O.:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am pantz:

It's a little early for the bathroom break song, Joe.
  9:21am LastWhiteRhino:

This is definitely a DJ "bathroom break" song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am TheLoneliestMonk:

@pants :D
  9:22am Brendan:

Single file album sides are the best
Avatar 9:23am Joe McG:

@pantz/Rhino: When you gotta go, you gotta go! Hi, Robyn, hope you and Ajax are having a nice morning out in NEPA! Hey, Krys and Brendan, Monk. Thanks, Yeti Bob!

Hey Joe. second faourite song on the USA album after 'Love Song for the Dead Che'.
Avatar 9:34am Joe McG:

@Brian: I think my favorite of all is "Coming Down" but I like the whole album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am TheLoneliestMonk:

@JM i was gonna bump my monthly as well. email u this week?
  9:35am djsheilab:

Loving this opening set, Joe!
Avatar 9:36am Brian in UK:

@YETI BOB agree with you, my profile only shows three donations over the years but we know., don't we.
Avatar 9:37am Snoochienucci:

im a little late to the party today, Morning Everyone!
Avatar 9:38am Joe McG:

@Monk: Yes, please do! @djsheilab: I'm going for a kind of hazy cozy feel now, I think, after a slightly harsher beginning. (I forgot about that murder in the first song! Yikes!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...wull - ya put it that way - I guess USA was ahead of its time...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Better than many @ conveying the actual Psycheedeleek Experience is the USA alboom...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am crateslinger:

fewer people would donate if the things weren't there.
Avatar 9:42am Brian in UK:

First heard of the USA on a wonderful sampler from CBS (Colombia) in 1968 The Rock Machine Turns You On. It opened my ears to lots more music, albeit from one label but CBS was good then.

Avatar 9:43am thormagma:

Just read a few negative reviews of this new M83 album, honestly seems like a return to their older more soundscape-oriented work. Love it!
Avatar 9:44am Joe McG:

@thormagma: Yes, I don't really get it. I think it's a pretty wonderful effort from them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I'ma not argue with that tracklist BrianUK.
Avatar 9:45am Brian in UK:

It is heartening to see so many SfL icons all the same.
Avatar 9:46am Joe McG:

Yes, thank you to everyone who is able to give monthly. It's so helpful! But thank you to everyone who gives anything at all as a one-time pledge. You guys are just as great!

good morning Joe and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am Irene Trudel:

Loving this opening set, Joe!
Avatar 9:57am Joe McG:

"Radio stations like WFMU are NOT a dime a dozen. Give a dozen dimes!" @Irene: Thanks, Irene! Long one this morning, but I'm in an expansive mood. God protect us when I start talking.
  9:58am Joe R.:

Checking in after last week's Joey Molland interview, went to the White Album tribute last week. Kinda weird but awfully fun, for me anyway. Molland was super solid and the Badfinger numbers got a great reception from the crowd. Rundgren had some pretty interesting costume changes during the second set :) I was really skeptical and confused as to why Christopher Cross was there but he did a great job on the quieter McCartney numbers (none of the other guys could have) and was really gracious, thanking the crew, sound and lighting people. YMMV though!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am sphere:

I honestly cannot believe that this specific White Album tribute actually existed. Whoh. Anyways, hello.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am Phillippe Bastille:

Good morning all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am Irene Trudel:

Um, I think The United States of America is actually an American band. en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am Gord:

Always particularly liked Mike's Monkees songs.
  10:09am Brendan:

Mike Nesmith yay! Its almost beanie weather too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am Irene Trudel:

the mention of U.S.of A.'s Dorothy Moskowitz reminded me of a story about her connection to this early Sesame Street cartoon. www.pri.org...
Avatar 10:17am Joe McG:

@Brendan: WFMU has a nice one this fall! ;) @Irene: Neat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am sphere:

Damn. I didn't know Stina Nordenstam could sing like that.
  10:21am steveL:

IT: That was unusual, especially given the outdated definition of “crack.” Ah, lost innocence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am sphere:

Oops. THIS is the Stina Nordenstam song. Beg pardon. I was referring to the Heather Black song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am stevem, no... n, no... o!:

guten morgen
Avatar 10:24am Joe McG:

@sphere: It's that band's fault (4 men) for calling themselves "Heather Black." The Alice Cooper school of band-naming.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am sphere:

@ Joe - Ah. Now I see! Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am LWRhino:

Joe and Stashu...WooHoo !!!!!
Avatar 10:36am Stashu:

  10:37am Brendan:

Dance , drink and pull an all nighter polka party. You can sleep when you’re dead.
Avatar 10:37am Joe McG:

@Stashu: Can't wait to DJ with you and Mr. Finewine!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am TheLoneliestMonk:

'enjoy yourself' is one of those tunes that can be adapted to pretty much ANY style of music
Avatar 10:38am Hubig Pie:

Hooped - de- do, I hear a polka and my troubles are through
Avatar 10:41am Joe McG:

It's going to be a great time on Friday, so come on out to polka and eat pierogies and imbibe beverages.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am Guido from Cologne:

Wive of George McCrae ("Rock Your Baby")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am pantz:

Wish I could be there Friday but I will polka by proxy.
  10:43am Alexandra Kogan:

Good morning, Joe!
Avatar 10:43am Brian in UK:

Not heard this Paul Jones for years but as soon as it came on I was singing along. Should have worked at skool.
Avatar 10:44am Joe McG:

@Guido: So true! @Alex: Howdy!
  10:45am John from Florham park:

@Yeti Bob I don’t have money to contribute to this great station but I do in other ways like spreading the gospel of WFMU
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am Irene Trudel:

Sea Train and Saggitarius! Bringing out a lot of old favorite musicians this morning, Joe. Loving it!
Avatar 10:51am Joe McG:

@Irene: I really love that version of "In My Room"!
  10:51am paul:

Wasn't Glen Campbell in Sagittarius?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am хtina:

vibin with single file this am
  10:51am melinda:

Tracey Ullman did this one on her 80s album.
Avatar 10:51am Brian in UK:

Joe just readng an article about Zigzag a wonderful what is now called fanzine from the late Sixties. The writer just mentioned Sea Train. Synchronicity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am pantz:

This sounds a lot like that Tracy Ullman song from the 80's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am pantz:

@melinda I should've waited 5 seconds. I knew it sounded familiar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am karlward:

Joe: slow this U2 down and make it your new bed music.
Avatar 10:54am Joe McG:

@karl: Omigod, no wonder I like this song! It sounds like a Kevin Ayers instrumental!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am karlward:

You got it.
  10:55am SeanG:

nice, i remember this single
  10:55am paul:

After further review, Glen Campbell was indeed a member of Sagittarius.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am karlward:

I'm also a fan of "Night Time in the Switching Yard" slowed down.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am coelacanth∅:

i have to miss Taraka unfortunately, to catch a bus.
Thanks Joe!
  10:57am paul:

Karl..ever see the video of Night Time in the Switching Yard? Zevon trying to be Jagger and failing miserably. God bless WZ.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am karlward:

paul: Totally. James Murphy described that song as a bunch of rock guys trying to figure out disco.
Avatar 11:00am Joe McG:

Thanks for volunteering and all the office stuff, coelacanth!
  11:01am paul:

That's a good description, Karl.

  11:11am emily:

This song makes me so happy. I'm sitting here, writing a course outline for a possible class at one of the 3 schools I'm adjuncting at. This Course will be about creating images for big data. Of course, I'm not being paid for writing a course--I just hope that after I write the course outline--I get to teach it.
Avatar 11:13am Joe McG:

@emily: Good luck on snagging the course!
  11:14am emily:

Thanks, Joe!

Joe, you should move to Portland, because you are a Trailblazer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am tim from champaign:

I'm digging this Taraka a lot. It reminds me of Sparks and the weird synth bands that would show up on early 80s California punk comps.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am Carmichael:

Heya Joe and cool people.
Avatar 11:18am Joe McG:

@zopa: Ha! @tim: Yes, she's definitely going for a punky vibe. She'll talk about that in the interview.
