Hello!

Hello windy horses!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm
chresti:

Me and family lived west of the windy city before moving to California
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14pm
Sam Segal:

Ike and Chresti! Fix yourselves a hot dog and make yourself at home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm
Sam Segal:

I can't fit the entire photo caption under the photo itself, but here it is for posterity: "Photo by Wadsworth Jarrell. Left to right, on the ground: Wadada Leo Smith, Sarnie Garrett, Wadsworth Jarrell Jr., Muhal Richard Abrams, Wallace McMillan, Douglas Ewart, John Stubblefield, Steve McCall, and Henry Threadgill. On the stairs: Buford Kirkwood, John Shenoy Jackson, Lester Lashley, and Martin 'Sparx' Alexander."

Dean:

Speaking of Chicago, I got my ticket to hear DKV Trio at a house in North Berkeley come June '20.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm
Sam Segal:

That'll be a great one, Dean. Got some Vandermark coming up later in the show.
Avatar 9:39pm
northguineahills:

wow, you found enough jazz music from Chicago to fit three hours!!!!?(nice photo)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm
Sam Segal:

Hahahaha, NGH, I could do Chicago jazz all month!
  10:27pm
Dean:

I confess that Tortoise is one of the bands that prompted me to realize how much I generally do not like music these days out of Chicago. Like Steely Dan, they seem so non-committal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm
chresti:

I have that Tortoise
  10:27pm
Chris Farrell:

All this jazz is making me really want to hit a bulls game. Hopefully when they play the Knicks. I think Jason Kidd is Knick’s coach so that even sweetens the pot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm
chresti:

I like the drummer
  10:32pm
Dean:

It reopened way the hell out of town. A major loss. JRM was amazing.
  10:34pm
Dean:

Naw, it was a little bit. I really want to give more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm
Sam Segal:

We'll take anything you've got, Dean!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
Sam Segal:

I think I know what you mean about Tortoise being non-committal, but I myself am afraid of commitment, so I can see where they are coming from.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
Sam Segal:

You like Jason Kidd, Chris?
  10:42pm
Dean:

I, too, fear commitment. Yet I adore Bach, who is the apotheosis of commitment. I don't enjoy musicians whose approach is "You might like this...or this...maybe this?..." This is one of the reasons I don't read The Wire. The writers are generally so committed to being non-committal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm
Sam Segal:

I take it you don't like Ween, Dean?
  10:44pm
Dean:

Lord, no.
Avatar 10:46pm
northguineahills:

I'm committed to being ambivalent to Ween, but am committed to loving Tortoise....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm
Sam Segal:

I love several Ween songs, but I am not committed to their entire oeuvre.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm
chresti:

Me, I have to go sleep in the barn, I am committed to getting up very early tomorrow. Thanks Sam.
  10:51pm
Dean:

To me, Ween are kinda like Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm
Sam Segal:

Night, Chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm
Sam Segal:

But most of RHCP is so unbearably self-serious...Ween's all goofs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm
doctorjazz:

Looks like a great show, I'll commit to that. Will need to find time to listen to the archive version (and, hi all!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm
Sam Segal:

Dr. Jazz! Just the jazz doctor I was hoping to see!
  10:55pm
Dean:

"Self-serious"?! You mean, like Hegel?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm
Sam Segal:

Hahaha, well, Dean...perhaps there can be some sort of dialectical synthesis between Ween and Bach someday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm
Franco Twinkie:

I will say This, Dean. Ween live are very funny and accessible. I saw them open for Beck in the mid-nineties. They are good musicians and want to entertain people, which is not a bad thing.
  11:24pm
Chris Farrell:

I think if Jason Kidd played Vince Carter in one on one, it would be an even match.

I like Becks album Morning Phase. I have also been rocking out to The Blue Nile. I even sometimes throw on a Kleptones album that mashups an old The Flaming Lips album (Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots).

Franco, do you have any Beck album recommendations?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm
Sam Segal:

I like your Ween analysis, Franco!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm
doctorjazz:

Just saw a Chicago band I really like this past Saturday...Wilco (I know they're not WFMU approved...)
  11:29pm
Chris Farrell:

Been having to listen intermittently due to my own lack of due diligence regarding an assignment I did not assess properly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm
doctorjazz:

(They do have a following that reminds me a bit of Deadheads..)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm
doctorjazz:

Is Jason Kidd really coaching the Knicks?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm
Sam Segal:

Wilco is certainly If You Lose Your Horse approved. In fact, this Jim O'Rourke tune features Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
doctorjazz:

He's pretty amazing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm
Sam Segal:

I love Wilco! I should play more Wilco on this show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm
doctorjazz:

Hardly ever hear them on FMU...Joe Belock seems to bee a fan.
  11:36pm
Chris Farrell:

I was mistaken he is an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers.
  11:36pm
Dean:

Don't like Wilco. Don't like Jim O'Rourke.

Why is this? Why is it that not only do they not only entertain me, but they irritate me?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm
Sam Segal:

All of Jim O'Rourke's work, Dean? His catalog is so broad. Ever dig into any of his experimental material?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm
doctorjazz:

I go for Nels Cline, but get into the whole thing.
  11:38pm
Dean:

Haven't dug into it, but I've sampled it. Utterly bores me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm
Sam Segal:

Fair enough, Dean!
  11:39pm
Chris Farrell:

Ween’s album White Pepper is pretty enjoyable. I also like The Mollusk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm
Franco Twinkie:

Chris, Odalay is my click to pick. It's the musical equivalent of a Jello aspic full of suspended fruit. Form from chaos, the beginning of Becks ascension.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm
doctorjazz:

They actually did an amazing show, mixing their rock thing with free playing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm
Sam Segal:

Chris, thank you for your pledge!!
  11:43pm
Chris Farrell:

Thanks Franco. It seems like loud music so I’m gonna save it for day time.
  11:44pm
Chris Farrell:

Course Mate you let me write my thoughts on here it’s the least I could do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm
Franco Twinkie:

Chrestis brother gave me a Wilco tee shirt he found in a thrift store. My mom loves it! Since she can hardly remember one minute to the next, she always asks me "What is Wilco?" three or four times when I'm wearing it.
  11:48pm
Chris Farrell:

Beautiful day gang. I’m gonna saddle up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm
doctorjazz:

Thanks, Sam, will have to go back and catch the early part of the show. Night all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm
Sam Segal:

Happy trails, Chris and Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm
Franco Twinkie:

See ya, Chris. I myself am going to get back to the feature video of the evening: The Brain That Wouldn't Die. Short. Good night fellers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm
Sam Segal:

Sounds like a good Halloween flick, Franco.
