I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Doug Schulkind:

Stamou is only 41 years old, but this music sounds ancient. Cool!
Avatar 12:33pm coelacanth ∅))):

greetings Mayuko & ghost children
  12:36pm rw:

Morning! Can't hang out too long. :( Will have to listen on archive as usual but feel compelled to check in!
  12:37pm rw:

I see the show has reached it's goal! Did fred pitch in the last 20%??
  12:37pm rw:

Weird. The answer to the last math question was 666
Avatar 12:38pm northguineahills:

Mayuko! Gosutochirudoren
Avatar 12:38pm fred:

@rw: I didn't
Avatar 12:39pm rbrt:

I like Herbert Huncke's japanese name :D
  12:39pm rw:

fred, Nice! She made it without you. Super generous offer though, and I KNOW you pitch in more than your share regardless.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Ike:

Anybody been to Morocco? Any travel tips?
Avatar 12:40pm rbrt:

are we cursed because you didn't get to 100 stories?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm listener james from westwood:

Yay for making your goal! Hoping the station as a whole inches past that last 12% over the coming weeks as folks find more quarters in their couches.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm listener james from westwood:

That is indeed THE Charlie! I was listening to one of his archives this very week. Much missed and always loved.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Excuse me! Watch out! Pardon me! Skeleton coming through!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm ParUbi:

Ahhhh, forgot about the start time!
Avatar 12:50pm gh∅st:

those bones just seem like a burden to me
Avatar 12:51pm fred:

Is it Trouble's show?
Avatar 12:51pm northguineahills:

The family of the Buddhist monk whom my mother taught English to the kids found me on FB. I've had to dust off my Japanese as only their kids speak English.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm chresti:

The songs you play are also stories
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm ParUbi:

thank goodness for the archives
Avatar 12:54pm Mayuko:

Welcome, coel! Thanks for checking in, rw! Thanks for tuning in, ngh!!!
Avatar 12:58pm Mayuko:

@james great! I was pretty sure it was our Charlie but I just couldn't remember where exactly his location was.
Avatar 12:58pm Mayuko:

Hi Ken! Hope the skeleton ran fast enough to make here in time to hear me thanking you.
Avatar 12:59pm Mayuko:

Thanks for tuning in, ParUbi!!!
Avatar 1:01pm Mayuko:

@ngh Even I started to forget many Japanese words since I don't speak it at all most of the time. Pretty amazing how hard to remember a language.
Avatar 1:01pm Mayuko:

@chresti That's such a great compliment for the music! Thank you!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm melinda:

hi friends
  1:02pm rw:

Avatar 1:05pm Mayuko:

Welcome, melinda!
Have a great weekend to you too, rw!
Avatar 1:05pm fred:

I'm going to a Yoshida Brothers show next Saturday. It's early in the afternoon, so I should be back in time for the show
Avatar 1:10pm Mayuko:

@fred oh cool, Tsugaru-jamisen stuff? must be really nice hearing it live.
Avatar 1:10pm northguineahills:

I once saw Asmus Tietchrns play in a coffee house in Atlanta. He had all of these robotic percussion playing the furniture hanging from the ceiling. It was boss!
Avatar 1:11pm northguineahills:

My two car-loads of friends from Gainesville made up 2/3rds of the audience.
Avatar 1:16pm northguineahills:

Gareth Loy, new to me!
Avatar 1:17pm Mayuko:

@ngh ah, that must have been great!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm chresti:

Oooh, Yoshida Brothers!
Avatar 1:26pm fred:

I saw a female duo called Anmitsu many years ago and it was a lot of fun, I hope the male version will be too
Avatar 1:26pm rbrt:

I liked that Gareth Loy tune
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Mark Hurst:

Hi Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Ike:

I don't really get horror. I prefer comedy-horror like Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn which is absolutely hilarious. (You don't need to watch the first one -- one of the funniest things about it is that it remakes the first movie in its first 10 minutes and does it better!) But I also like psychological horror about relationships like what you're talking about. Sounds good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm WR:

You've now really built up the Changeling. Will look for it now.
Avatar 1:35pm Franco Twinkie:

What!?! Did someone say something about the Devil? I was busy outside polishing my shoes.
Avatar 1:37pm fred:

@Ike: I remember seeing Evil Dead II when it came out. A friend an I started laughing at the Necronomicon/typewriter opening credits and basically never stopped. Evil Dead 3 is pretty funny too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm ParUbi:

Only caught part of it-- you were talking about "the Changeling"? 1980?
Avatar 1:44pm Mayuko:

Thanks for tuning in Mark!!!
  1:44pm JosephB:

Speaking of horror movies, a favorite of mine is still Kiyoshi Kurosawa's "Pulse" (回路). There are some really spooky sounds and visuals in that one (he used Butoh dancers to play the ghosts). I've never seen a ghost, but I imagine they would appear pretty similar to how they are depicted in this film.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Ike:

As for languages, even just trying to learn a few basic words in Moroccan Arabic is absolutely stumping me. Tongue-tying! I wonder if I'd find Japanese as difficult.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm chresti:

The Tenant, a Roman Polanski film, is nice and creepy
Avatar 1:51pm fred:

@JosephB: Pulse is one of the last movies I saw. I loved it
Avatar 1:52pm coelacanth ∅))):

i wasn't scared of ghosts or spirits when i was little but was scared of monsters, especially monsters that take forms of everyday objects, or that don't take a definite form at all.
  1:53pm Rickwaukee:

ALIEN: I travel light years, and I get a SHRUG! *ZAAAAPP*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm listener james from westwood:

Thanks, Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm chresti:

Thanks Mayuko!!!
Avatar 1:54pm Sem:

Thank you, Mayuko. Love your show.
  1:54pm JosephB:

@fred It manages to be both scary and sad at the same time. @Mayuko "Communion" with Christopher Walken is all about alien abduction. Used to really scare me as a kid.
Avatar 1:55pm Mayuko:

Stay tuned for Music For a Free World
with Dave Sewelson!!!
  1:55pm JosephB:

Thanks for another great show Mayuko! Congratulations on reaching your goal!
Avatar 1:56pm rbrt:

this swans song is great
Avatar 1:56pm rbrt:

Avatar 1:56pm fred:

Thanks Mayuko!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm WR:

Avatar 1:57pm Mayuko:

Avatar 1:59pm Mayuko:

Avatar 1:59pm coelacanth ∅))):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Ken From Hyde Park:
