Matt from New Orleans:

Larry and Vincent have been extolling the Keystone Soul Weekender for the last two days. I’ve never actually attended something like that. Not even an alldayer or allnighter.

Hi Dan

Yeah I saw Larry's posts looked like a fun time. The big US one in Seattle is this weekend, I went last year & while it was fun seeing everyone, I think my days of all soul weekends are done, it's just too much
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm
Little Danny:

Love this Derek Martin

Dan will I see you Saturday?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm

No, sadly. We're down to one car at the moment and the timing didn't work out.

Hi Kris and company!

WR:

Glad you laptop still functioning. I am just hearing that Drifters tune, I count the tears, for the first time. Striking similarities with Let's Live for Today performed by the Grassroot and coming from an Italian song. Really?
Avatar 10:18pm
Kris Holmes:

Ah, bummer Dan :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm
Little Danny:

@Kris: tell me about it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm
Little Danny:

Oh man. Waking up from a KFC coma to do a show sounds mighty disorienting
Avatar 10:22pm
still b/p:

Was treated to a KFC pot pie today. Anticipated with some apprehension, but it was goooood, even if checklist of its unfavorable factors might make it a Bad Food Bingo winner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm

Love the 'roots' "Let's Live for Today"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26pm
Little Danny:

❤️❤️❤️

From the wikipedia page for the Grassroots song seems that the session producer / song co-writer PF Sloan has publicly acknowledged the influence of the Drifters song.en.m.wikipedia.org...

Matt from New Orleans:

A little mellower Roy Head than I’ve seen in concert. Dr Ike always makes him play uptempo numbers.
Avatar 10:34pm
Kris Holmes:

from 1972, his country period, but he cut that in Memphis with Steve Cropper, gettin' bluesy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Has anyone watched the Eddie Murphy as Rudy Ray Moore?
Avatar 10:38pm
Kris Holmes:

watched it the other night, fantastic

It’s really good.

Mr Fine Wine played a song by Frank Lucas recently. I remember thinking about the drug kingpin in Harlem when I saw the name and then he made sure to say that it wasn’t that guy.
Avatar 10:46pm

Nice cameo from Poobah Records in LA dressed up as Dolphin's of Hollywood too

Matt, ha, indeed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm

Franco Twinkie:

Matt, I'm in a singing group that practices at Poobah Records where all the opening shots were filmed. We would go in after the film crew was done for the day. Aside from my personal interest in the story of Rudy Ray Moore, who I actually saw perform, I think It's a great movie! I Loved Rudy's filthy mouth. What a guy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Actually I got messed up by it starting last week in the U.K. On the morning of the 27th, I went to listen to the radio show I listen to every week at 9 AM and it wasn’t on. It took me a bit before I even thought to look it up online.
Avatar 11:07pm

Yeah, now would usually be sign off & bedtime

Which Poohbah? Walnut or Colorado?
Avatar 11:09pm

colorado

That was from Jackies album Laurel Canyon. I like all pictures of Ms. DeShannon on the inside of the cover standing around looking lost in a shirt that looks like a table cloth.

ha, i've never had the LP but that sounds funny

It sounds like The Clovers need some Beano.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm
Franco Twinkie:

I just read something funny about Jerry Lee Lewis. When he opened for The Doors at the Forum, and all the morons in the audience were disrespectful after he played his ass off, he thanked the people who liked him, but told the rest to go have a heart attack!
Avatar 11:40pm
Kris Holmes:

hahahaha
Avatar 11:43pm

Jerry Lee Lewis song came on the radio today and the person I was with characterized him as "a one-trick pony, right?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm

Maybe so, but what a trick!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm

It sounded like the Wailers backing Johnny Nash

Did we ever leave the B’s back then?
Avatar 11:54pm
