This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Good evening Explorers

Hi flash and explorers!
Avatar 7:02pm Flash Strap:

Hi Chresti!
Avatar 7:02pm hyde:

hiya
Avatar 7:03pm Flash Strap:

Hiya Hyde!
Avatar 7:05pm Flash Strap:

I've been wanting to do a spotlight on F&T for years now, very happy to be finally on the case
Avatar 7:07pm Flash Strap:

This album was such a crucial discovery, if only there were even more from their early days at Juilliard
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm chresti:

Sounds GOOD!
Franco is majorly bummed that he canøt listen live today.
Avatar 7:10pm Flash Strap:

consider me bummed too! you're missed Franco
Avatar 7:10pm hyde:

this is lovely
Avatar 7:12pm Flash Strap:

I agree Hyde, one of their loveliest compositions. They recorded it again as "mermaid's waltz", which we'll hear shortly
Avatar 7:13pm Flash Strap:

probably my #1 Boneschi track, here, I think I've already played it twice
Avatar 7:16pm hyde:

@Flash also, manatees. those are amazing creatures, and it's a wonder they didn't get wiped out like Steller's sea cow. they were serious explorer food.
Avatar 7:16pm Flash Strap:

this is a uniquely weird album
Avatar 7:17pm Flash Strap:

Manatees are such miraculous creatures, I'm so glad they still exist, bless them
Avatar 7:20pm Flash Strap:

Even in the bizarro world of library music, this is an extremely unusual sound to dedicate an album to. I cherish this
Avatar 7:21pm hyde:

it's amazing
Avatar 7:21pm just julia:

o so excited about this evening of sounds, hi, hello, i like what i'm hearin'
Avatar 7:22pm Flash Strap:

Just Julia, what a pleasure! Hello friend
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm WR:

I'm confused, I was listening to the stream and suddenly this guy talking and he says he is featuring Ferrante & Teicher which I long have ridiculed. What, I've been hearing them for the last 20 minutes. wtf. Taking a shower and contemplating WTF I'm hearing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm chresti:

WTF WR!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm chresti:

WTF F&T WR! I meant to say
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm doctorjazz:

Hey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm chresti:

I love the sound of sound proof, F&T are theatrical.
Avatar 7:40pm Flash Strap:

Hi WR! I hope it all works out for you
Avatar 7:40pm Flash Strap:

Hello, beloved Doctor!
Avatar 7:44pm Flash Strap:

This really is one of their best LPs I think, very underappreciated
Avatar 7:46pm Flash Strap:

they get the coolest sounds, all without any electronic processing
Avatar 7:48pm Flash Strap:

@chresti: they really are, it's an extremely flashy art they practice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm chresti:

First I remember hearing this album Hi+Fireworks. They really attack Tabu with gusto
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm WR:

Point is that my perspective on F&T is based on my working in record store 71 to 75 and they were AOR opportunists covering whatever was top of of AOR charts. I'm ok with revisionist re-evaluation of their work. Just takes me a bit to reconsider.
  7:49pm JtotheK:

Quick checking in - hi Flash and explorers, enjoying the show!
Avatar 7:49pm Flash Strap:

one of my all-time fave Tabus
Avatar 7:51pm Flash Strap:

@WR: they really did descend into such pure product no one can blame you! I benefit from not really living during that heyday of schmaltz. their early records were successful but not nearly so as the later work, which overshadows everything. similar to the Bee Gees' curse
Avatar 7:53pm Flash Strap:

Hi J-K! thanks for checking in & wonderful to have your ears with us
Avatar 7:55pm Flash Strap:

Always worth highlighting their original compositions – this one reappears (along with their arrangement of Tabu) on their one true Exotica LP, Pianos in Paradise (also by far their best LP with orchestra). To be covered in the next edition
Avatar 7:55pm Flash Strap:

up next, a very good take on Baia
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm chresti:

Denizens of the Deep, had a good sound, I listen to the SP that is without an orchestra
Avatar 7:57pm Flash Strap:

following that, reprises of "Loch Ness Monster Stomp" and "Floating Manatees" (under new names)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm chresti:

Bee Gees' curse haha
Avatar 7:58pm Flash Strap:

@chresti: they wouldn't begin to incorporate orchestra until quite some time after Soundproof – the 2 Soundproofs are really 2 different albums, the other one is alternately known as Soundblast
Avatar 8:01pm Flash Strap:

what a beast this one is
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02pm passiflora:

❤️
Avatar 8:02pm Flash Strap:

really unusual sounds here
Avatar 8:02pm Flash Strap:

Hello Passiflora!
Avatar 8:05pm Flash Strap:

what we're hearing is actually the OTHER Soundproof, which was very confusingly how Westminster chose to release a stereo version of Soundblast (the original Soundproof was mono only)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm ParUbi:

Hi guys
Avatar 8:09pm Flash Strap:

Hi ParUbi! how goes pal?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm ParUbi:

Wish I knew! Looks good from here, though!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm ParUbi:

and sounds good!
Avatar 8:13pm Flash Strap:

what an arrangement, i mean it's genuinely kind of psychedelic! like a couple of Looney Tunes demolishing the composition and rebuilding it very playfully
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm ParUbi:

a little bit Tex Avery
Avatar 8:14pm Flash Strap:

for sure
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm Doug in JC:

I bet the sheet music for this is beautiful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm chresti:

precision playing
Avatar 8:17pm Flash Strap:

Hi Doug in JC! I wonder what they would have done, I'd love to see
Avatar 8:18pm Flash Strap:

This "Cumana" a big influence on Arthur Lyman's (3 years later) imo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm chresti:

This really spins my head around, so fast!
Avatar 8:20pm Flash Strap:

It's exhausting, honestly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm Doug in JC:

Hi Flash Strap! The Tico-Tico track dragged me directly in to the chat. Great set so far
Avatar 8:21pm Flash Strap:

Thanks pal!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm Doug in JC:

No, thank YOU
Avatar 8:22pm Flash Strap:

This album would be a real space-age classic like Soundproof, Soundblast and Blast Off if it only had a more outrageous cover. I'd never even heard it till very recently
Avatar 8:23pm Flash Strap:

well, my pleasure then
Avatar 8:23pm Flash Strap:

that constant sparkling dissonance beneath it all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm ParUbi:

Music which both relaxes me and makes me feel like I'm going insane. Hard to do that at the same time!
Avatar 8:25pm Little Danny:

Hey Flash, hey all

Playlist thusfar looks great
Avatar 8:25pm Flash Strap:

pre-cisely. honestly though i never feel relaxed with F&T, i'm always a little driven to madness. similar with Yma Sumac actually. that's why I'm breaking this one into 2 parts
Avatar 8:26pm Flash Strap:

LD! great to see ya pal
Avatar 8:28pm Flash Strap:

I imagine this version could be the whole reason Bye Bye Blues ended up on Disk Hyman & Mary Mayo's space age masterpiece Moon Gas
Avatar 8:30pm northguineahills:

Autoharp-tune
Avatar 8:30pm Flash Strap:

NGH!
Avatar 8:31pm Flash Strap:

This stupid song gets blown out here
Avatar 8:32pm Flash Strap:

absolutely incinerated
Avatar 8:34pm Flash Strap:

like being shot in the head with a black and white ivory bullet, then make way for the circus organ
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm chresti:

Haha ParUbi
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm ParUbi:

of course
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm ParUbi:

nothing "easy" about this
  8:39pm Ignore Function:

Soundproof has a great album cover.

Rocket ship!
Avatar 9:23pm Flash Strap:

for some reason the only date I can find for this is '84, which seems unlikely, hence the ??

Vol. 8 puts us back in '74, so
  9:25pm Quinn:

Some dorks are filming a scene for a music video in my living room, I was like “I can turn this off” and they’re like “it’s okay, there’s no tempo anyway”
Avatar 9:27pm Flash Strap:

haha, incredible to imagine! Hi Quinn!
Avatar 9:28pm northguineahills:

the best dorks prefer incidental Boneschi moogeyness…….
Avatar 9:28pm Flash Strap:

what sort of music video? what sort of dorks?
Avatar 9:29pm Flash Strap:

@NGH: a rare dork in these times, but I agree fully
  9:31pm Quinn:

Our neighbor is making a music video for his band featuring several other neighbors in their living rooms. We have a very neighborly neighborhood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm Doug in JC:

My neighbors have been replaced by millionaires and they all kinda hate me
Avatar 9:32pm Flash Strap:

sounds great, very healthy and neighborly, i love it
Avatar 9:33pm Flash Strap:

that sucks Doug, lotta that going around lately
Avatar 9:33pm Flash Strap:

next track after Synthetic Bells is one to watch, very crazy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm Doug in JC:

I secretly love it, so it's fine
Avatar 9:34pm Flash Strap:

ah nice, then keep up the good work
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm Doug in JC:

Just like I love this track. I can't imagine this equipment was off the shelf at the time
Avatar 9:36pm Flash Strap:

Other than heavy use of moog, I really wonder what his setup was like and what sort of modifications he was experimenting with
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm Doug in JC:

According to Steven Tyler's autobiography, Ferrante & Teicher used to practice at this grandmother's house in NYC
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm Doug in JC:

Sorry, typo. Steven Tyler's grandmother's house
Avatar 9:37pm Flash Strap:

amazing expression of the "wordless vocal" again, I could listen to him mess with that concept forever
Avatar 9:37pm Flash Strap:

I've read that, yeah. wild!
Avatar 9:38pm coelacanth∅))):

crap - stream just cut in
Avatar 9:38pm Flash Strap:

This is the final "Themes, Rhythmic and Abstractionisms" installment. Next we move to Fantastic, Futuristic Music
