	5:33pm spacebrother: Oh no, I remember hearing this on my little transistor radio when I was a kid. Had no idea what was going on, but it was music, which was unfiltered from parents or anyone else, which made it unique.

	♥ 5:47pm Rich in Washington: yeah, GeorgyGirl. Safe. I think that's the key. A more innocent time for us, before we became jaded, drug-addled teenagers, before my morals were corrupted by Dr. Demento and late night radio DJs, Punk Rock radio, etc.
	♥ 5:47pm DJ GeorgyGirl: It's an either/or - sometimes referring to album culture, but also with the adult charts via Billboard and so on :-)
	♥ 5:49pm Rich in Washington: Before buying that colossal CD collection, I had no idea who had done half of those really familiar songs I had grown up with.

	5:49pm Mr Fab: I didn't know much about the cool stuff of the '70s til after the fact. I just remember hearing this stuff. Until the culture Rich mentioned hit me and got me actually interested in music.

	6:05pm Mr Fab: nah, i don't HATE ELo. i don't really hate much, honestly. Apart from their sucky music, the Eagles were just frikkin EVERYWHERE. The endless, endless 'Hotel California" was everywhere, and we were all supposed to love it, and there was something wrong with you if you didn't.

	6:10pm Mr Fab: yeah, i love "Popcorn" too! But i didn't grow up with it. For some reason, i dont' remember hearing it til well into the '80s, when i started getting into Moog records. So i was not traumatized by it.
	6:11pm spacebrother: A UHF channel in LA (channel 52) used to play "popcorn" over their station ID when I was a kid. I'd sing along by popping my cheek. Annoyed everyone but me.

	♥ 6:11pm Rich in Washington: I remember hearing Popcorn fairly frequently on the AM station that my Mom listened to a lot and was also played on our school bus. This would've been the very early 70s.

	♥ 6:13pm Rich in Washington: I also remember them playing Amen Brother. It was a station called 62 KGW. Real classic local radio with a sort of laid back morning drive time team. A far cry from later local radio. But they played a lot of songs that were 'kooky', mixed in with the usual AM fodder.

And I'm a huge magoo/bakus fan and somehow have never heard that song -- like what the hell kind of incantation did Mr. Fab have to do to get that song into the digital stream?

	5:33pm Linda Lee: a growing moneyed demographic changed the music business, no? I don't think the incredible economic power of the baby boomers, sustained, was foreseen at all.
	5:33pm spacebrother: Oh no, I remember hearing this on my little transistor radio when I was a kid. Had no idea what was going on, but it was music, which was unfiltered from parents or anyone else, which made it unique.

	♥ 5:47pm Rich in Washington: yeah, GeorgyGirl. Safe. I think that's the key. A more innocent time for us, before we became jaded, drug-addled teenagers, before my morals were corrupted by Dr. Demento and late night radio DJs, Punk Rock radio, etc.
	♥ 5:47pm DJ GeorgyGirl: It's an either/or - sometimes referring to album culture, but also with the adult charts via Billboard and so on :-)
	♥ 5:49pm Rich in Washington: Before buying that colossal CD collection, I had no idea who had done half of those really familiar songs I had grown up with.
	♥ 5:49pm DJ GeorgyGirl: I couldn't do a soft rock/AOR show without yet more Michael McDonald :-)
	5:49pm Mr Fab: I didn't know much about the cool stuff of the '70s til after the fact. I just remember hearing this stuff. Until the culture Rich mentioned hit me and got me actually interested in music.

	♥ 6:03pm Rich in Washington: I think with my wife and I, despite our divergent musical tastes, we have THESE songs in common, having been raised on pretty much the same local radio, etc. We started listening to those comps and would go 'OH GAWD! THAT song again!'.

	6:05pm Mr Fab: nah, i don't HATE ELo. i don't really hate much, honestly. Apart from their sucky music, the Eagles were just frikkin EVERYWHERE. The endless, endless 'Hotel California" was everywhere, and we were all supposed to love it, and there was something wrong with you if you didn't.

	6:10pm Mr Fab: yeah, i love "Popcorn" too! But i didn't grow up with it. For some reason, i dont' remember hearing it til well into the '80s, when i started getting into Moog records. So i was not traumatized by it.
	6:11pm spacebrother: A UHF channel in LA (channel 52) used to play "popcorn" over their station ID when I was a kid. I'd sing along by popping my cheek. Annoyed everyone but me.

	♥ 6:11pm Rich in Washington: I remember hearing Popcorn fairly frequently on the AM station that my Mom listened to a lot and was also played on our school bus. This would've been the very early 70s.

	♥ 6:13pm Rich in Washington: I also remember them playing Amen Brother. It was a station called 62 KGW. Real classic local radio with a sort of laid back morning drive time team. A far cry from later local radio. But they played a lot of songs that were 'kooky', mixed in with the usual AM fodder.
