Good evening, savage young listeners!

Were those some sports fans?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm
Sam Segal:

Chresti, Doug, Chris, Fleep, and Franco! A remarkable assemblage of talent. Thank you all for being here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm
Sam Segal:

Indeed, Franco! That was an argument between Mets Manager Terry Collins and Umpire Tom Holland.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm
Franco Twinkie:

Welcome back Sam. Did you go home for a turkey sandwich?

Moth Cock,.... curious....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm
doctorjazz:

I'm trying to picture Moth Cock, not doing well with this...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm
Sam Segal:

A little turkey and a few snow storms, Franco!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm
Sam Segal:

@NGH & @DocJazz, picture a couple of bearded stoners from Dayton, OH and you're about there. They make delightful weirdo music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm
Franco Twinkie:

Peter Ivers seems to be having a moment. During that period when he was the host of New Wave Theater, I had no idea he was such an interesting and talented guy. I just thought he was another nut burger that lucked out and got to be on TV.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm
Sam Segal:

What was New Wave Theater all about, Franco? My knowledge of his career doesn't go super deep, but I have been really enjoying this new compilation of his demos that just came out on RVNG.

Nice to see ya, Passiflora!
  9:31pm
passiflora:

you too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm
Franco Twinkie:

What I remember is this: It came on late at night, had super cheap production values, was in this murky looking place with people wandering around in the shadows, and the same fringe bands that would play punk rock dumps around town. Peter would wear what looked like thrown together outfits and introduce the bands. I think everyone involved was on drugs.
  9:37pm
Chris Farrell:

Ha that’s great Franco.. I like the new picture by the way. Ringing in the seasons! (Alluding to the potentially Halloween picture that this one replaced)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm
Sam Segal:

Sounds wonderful!
  9:40pm
Chris Farrell:

Did anyone receive a DVD from WFMU a few years back by a Russian? If so was it any good? I have it but haven’t watched it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm
doctorjazz:

Fun set!
Saw Kris Davis last night. (Playing in Jonathan Blair &Pentad at the Village Vanguard). I've seen her name around, was really impressed by her piano playing; bit of Monk, some Cecil Taylor, mostly just her (this is basically a post bop band, she stretched things a bit). Alto sax Immanuel Wilkins, who I didn't know, also impressed!
(love these gangly African guitars...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm
Sam Segal:

I think that was probably your prize for donating during the marathon, Chris. Could have been a set of films by the Russian Adrei Tarkovsky. No matter what it was, I always advocate watching strange Russian DVDs you receive in the mail.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm

This tune and the previous two are all from the brilliant African music blog Likembe: likembe.blogspot.com

huh, Mayaula Mayoni is Congoese. It did sound like soukous, but I couldn't place the language.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm

Single is a single in this instance, Chresti. This one is b/w a tune called "Tshebele."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm

What a sad, tragic demise for Woody Shaw. What a gorgeous sound he made.

Truly, Doug. I discovered that brilliant Woody Shaw piece from a playlist the great contemporary jazz drummer Gerald Cleaver made recently.

Passiflora, so that's a song about love sauce? Hmmm.

Is love mud the same thing as baby batter?

We're going to have to listen to Sections I-V of the piece to figure that out, Franco.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm
Sam Segal:

ParUbi! Nice to meet you. Welcome to the Horse!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm

Franco, Frampton used a "talk box" -which i don't know much about but i think it's an anolgue effects unit. (i think the vocoder is all electronic?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm

This is a lovely shade of avocado
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm
ParUbi:

as it were = in some way
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm
coelacanth∅:

well, i've been listening to your shows more often than not for quite some time, as it were, and i don't remember you talking about the phrase,"as it were"...as it were.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57pm
coelacanth∅:

oh, pfft...this is the 21st century Sam; you don't need to use words and phrases correctly any more.
  10:59pm
Chris Farrell:

Sam I had diverged from your show for the last hour to play the 007 theme song on repeat and slooth around.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm
chresti:

Avocado mixed with a little goat cheese
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm
ParUbi:

now i'm wondering what "so to speak" means
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm
Sam Segal:

Run into any hijinks during your romp, Chris?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm
Sam Segal:

When you put it like that, Coel, I guess I can say whatever I want, as it were!
  11:09pm
Chris Farrell:

No I made it up. I’m just sitting in my apartment and wanted to know who everyone’s favorite bond character was but was to afraid to ask. That thought transpired into me listening to 30 seconds of the 007 theme song on YouTube before thinking of that joke at which time I posted it to the chat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm
Sam Segal:

Apparently the phrase "as it were" is a shortening of the phrase "as it were so," which makes even less sense to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm
doctorjazz:

This Sirom is nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13pm
coelacanth∅:

well -not *whatever you want*, per se...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm

i don't really know any bond characters. are there ever any beautiful ladies in those movies?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm

Sam Segal:

Happy trails, Chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm
coelacanth∅:

g'night chresti
  11:28pm
Chris Farrell:

I misphrased that. I meant favorite person to play bond.

I feel like every bond film has one objectively beautiful woman who is obviously reserved for Mr. Bond.
Avatar 11:33pm
still b/p:

Now, boys, they are called girls -- "Bond girls" -- no matter what century in which they make their film appearances or in which they are referenced. Not using the right term, would be, like, disrespectful to them and the worthy perma-frosting the culture needs to apply.
Avatar 11:37pm
northguineahills:

Daniel Carter, miss that guy!
  11:37pm
Chris Farrell:

Since it’s the Internet I should probably state I used “objectively pretty” with a heavy dose of irony meant to tail along with it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm
coelacanth∅:

i think still b/p is right, as it were. i've even heard girls calling bond girls bond girls.
-as it were.
