Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

looking is lovely :) my queerheart is a KJ and has a special gig that's an all-gender, all-levels pop-up queer strip club (inspired by Portland stripper-oke, as i recall). lots to look at! and since it's just our queer family present, it's all fun and friendly times. :-)
Avatar 5:19pm
Linda Lee:

wow. that sounds lovely. i should come out for a sample! :-)
  5:19pm
Martinibomb:

Oh Striperaoke yup! A PDX export hahah
Avatar 5:20pm
Linda Lee:

now tell me what stripperoke is. get up & strip instead of sing? been in the woods for *so* long :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

yeah, a friend of mine brought it to SF Bay Area and calls it Drrrty Queer.
  5:21pm
Martinibomb:

@linda strippers strip while you sing.. I believe Otis just did it recently Hahah but invented in Portland, Oregon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

SF also imported PDX's Drag Races, which i do believe led to a direct connection with Ru's show.
Avatar 5:22pm
Linda Lee:

i have actually been in the woods for almost 20 years straight.

i mean, continually.
Avatar 5:22pm
Linda Lee:

I know nothing! :-D
  5:23pm
Martinibomb:

@Gran sol said you prefer an older term for They/them but I'm forgetting what it was exactly can you refresh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Drrrty Queeraoke With Dana has so many strippers who also sing that they sometimes end up singing right after a dance or vice versa, and sometimes the queues coincide!
Avatar 5:23pm
Linda Lee:

whoa!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

oh, my actual pronouns are e/em/eir/emself (Spivac) however i do support the rising popularity of they/them as a respectful default.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm
ParUbi:

Beautiful moon up there tonight
  5:25pm
Martinibomb:

That's it Em or Eir ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm
ParUbi:

(that's also what they'd say if I went to stripayoke)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

"Ask em what e wants in eir tea."
  5:26pm
Martinibomb:

Em or Eir are much older terms than they/them right? and sound better to my ear
  5:26pm
Martinibomb:

Ah! Yeah I like that alot!
Avatar 5:27pm
Linda Lee:

I don't think they'd let me on stage either way. last time I stripped was 1981! nuff said
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

they/them as a singular pronoun goes back hundreds of years, as far as i know, e/em has only been around a few decades?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm
ParUbi:

Didn't know about the Spivak system. This will be relevant in my Love/Sex class, thanks
Avatar 5:29pm
Linda Lee:

they/them is definitely much older.
honestly, can we please just dispense with the damn binary?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Linda Lee: whaaat? No nuf sed! OK, OK… however they would let you strip, and we'd all love it. My queerheart just celebrated her 61st bday!
Avatar 5:29pm
Linda Lee:

sweet! :-)
yes, I stripped in San Francisco!
Avatar 5:30pm
Linda Lee:

north beach
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

ParUbi: cool! Spivak developed the pronouns to improve neutral language in academic papers, but the pronouns also developed simultaneously in other places, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

LL: North Beach! Classic.

  5:33pm

@otis whadya think about this stuff I pulled today? I have heard none of it.. all new to my ears. Trying to cover the contemprary end of the spectrum for Sheena during 2020
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

LL: ha! yeah, at the end of the first Drrrty Queeraoke, ALL the dancers gave my queerheart a flash mob lap dance. It was SPECTACULAR!
Avatar 5:34pm
Linda Lee:

fantastic!!! haha
Avatar 5:35pm
Lotis Odder from the year 2020:

I'm not sure when or where it originates, but when I was in Paris in 2004 I went to a very early morning (or late night) audience participation strip kareoke event. I recall San Fran on Broadway and side clubs in the late 80s as well with a bit of the wild/risque action lip-syncing to songs. Ol' drag scenes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

She's 6'2 and zaftig, so there's plenty of "lap!" ha ha!

@otis have you heard Jim Noir?
Avatar 5:37pm

Nope, so much new music, I try to keep up as well via Bandcamp and sites like bleep.com. Electronci Sound mag that you are also a fan of, keeps me in tune a bit (I do the subscription).

  5:40pm
Martinibomb:

There's so much music and I feel like sheena hasn't been covering newer stuff.. we mostly look backward.. so my 2020 is to look forward with music on my show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

yes! i love that!
Avatar 5:40pm

i'm appreciating the new sounds very much, MB. especially since there is *so much* to plow through..

Most of the other Djs here are way more organized than me but I feel like the chaos is part of my sound if that makes sense? I'm sometimes just as surprised as the listeners haha

my pOv is the natural state is chaos so why bother organizing...my collection is just a reflection of the universe Lol

synchronicity carrels us chaos lovers thru :-D

If my record collection were animals, I'd be turned in by the authorities. Not because I have so many (I don't), but rather how I sort/stack/leave them out etc.
Avatar 5:57pm
Linda Lee:

I fondly remember stepping on stacks of vinyl to get out of the room when mixing. not good. :-D

At least I am not filing my records by color... again. Ha!

piles, rather. not stacks.

Martinibomb:

I have never organized my record collection. Not once.
Avatar 6:00pm
Lotis Odder from the year 2020:

I started organizing in 1987 by BPM, really helped playing out from 87-92 heavy. After the mid-90s it was just always A-Z and only did that after I had a couple of thousand.

Gotta go help my neighbor move furniture and drop some old stuff on the street, back before the show shuts down.

Lotis Odder from the year 2020: oh no! yeah, the color method wasn't successful for me, either! Nor the chronological…

BPM?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

i once organized by which friend or family member the record reminded me of (way back when i had less than 200 records)
Avatar 6:02pm
Linda Lee:

wow! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

and none of this means that my records are actually in order! i just like filing
Avatar 6:03pm
Linda Lee:

I have about 400 now .. my 4th or 5th collection. it's loosely grouped by genre. very loosely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

still can't find a ding-dang thing when i'm looking for something specific. Chaos and Synchronicity win again!
Avatar 6:04pm
Lotis Odder from the year 2020:

GST - I 'love' filing too. Most of my filing these days is with files on the drives, from client folders to project folders. A good filing system and file-naming conventions can do wonders for productivity. Gotta run, time to move some bookcases...

15 years with my partner, most of them cohabitating, and we still haven't dared try to mingle our collections. so we have TWO disorderly systems going on!
Avatar 6:05pm
Linda Lee:

ha! that's amazing. still no mixing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

no. mixing. and then there are our abundant zines and comix collections. oy.
  6:07pm
Martinibomb:

Zines! Comix! I didn't even know what Zines were until maybe 1993?
Avatar 6:07pm
Linda Lee:

I understand this. records are even more personal than clothing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

how the #%@! do you organize zines? Barnard Library does a very decent job, actually.
Avatar 6:09pm
Linda Lee:

it's interesting to me to try remembering what happened to my other collections. either i gave them away as a kind of watershed before a major change, or i sold them for money because money.

Martinibomb:

It's still crazy to me I have a show on WFMU... growing up hillbilly I'd never have thought I'd be doing this Lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Martinibomb: yeah, who knew zines before 1993? Not many. When i met Chloe, July 4, 1994 (at the infamous PDX annual All Girls BBQ hosted by Kathy Molloy of "Snipehunt") she KNEW who i was and what zine i did. I am still reeling from surprise.
  6:11pm
Martinibomb:

@Gran I got a job at Kinkos in 93 when I first moved to Portland that's how I know all the zineters/artists/musicians in town
