January 4, 2020:
Korean Shamanic Folk-Funk Juggernaut Ak Dan Gwang Chil Recorded Live at WOMEX
Listen to this show:
Pop-up player!
There's a flowering folk-roots revival in South Korea - but no band combines virtuosity, charisma, and pure energy like Ak Dan Gwang Chil (ADG7). Three powerhouse singers and six virtuoso players combine for breakneck-speed roots-romps. ADG7 was chosen to perform at the prestigious globalFEST world music showcase at Manhattan's Copacabana Sunday night January 12th. They were also selected to showcase at October’s influential WOMEX World Music Expo in Finland. Rob met up with ADG7 at the WOMEX EBU Radio Studio and he'll share their mind-blowing live session on WFMU!
Massive thanks Shawn Choi from Sori, bring amazing artists from South Korea to tour around the world, and to the WOMEX Radio Studio team who made this possible: Sigtor Kjetså and Tore Steen from NRK (Norway), Matti Littunen from YLE (Finland) and Janko Sadnik from WDR (Germany).
