Johanna Tzipkine on the Cosmic Rai of Sofiane Saidi and Mazalda and Algerian Music in France
The annual APAP arts presenters conference brings artists to New York for showcase concerts. It also brings people here who help make the music happen, like Johanna Tzipkine. The onetime radio DJ from Marseille joins us to introduce the edgy French-Algerian music of Sofiane Saidi and Mazalda plus other new global sounds from across the Atlantic. Saidi and Mazalda play two big world music showcases this weekend: Saturday night's Secret Planet at Drom and Sunday night's globalFEST at the Copacabana.
Check out Sofiane Saidi and Mazalda's excellent album El Ndjoum: https://sofianesaidimazalda.bandcamp.com/
