With billows and blasts from choirs and orchesters
Buskers and talkers
Big bands and squawkers,
the Stork Club has retained its qualities of decaying elegance and dwindling significance since the late 1950s.

Shakes flipper at router. Damn you, electronic devil.
12:04pm Dave in St Albans UK:

Hi Storm. Happy New Year.
12:05pm Dave in St Albans UK:

Stork!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Dave in Vermont:

yes, perhaps if we change your name to Storm you won't go off the air.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Jeff Golick:

I'd like to rout that router. Send it up 12 trees. Sounding good so far, stormy @Stork!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Doug Schulkind:

I've got a white-knuckle grip on the bastard, Stork. Will. Not. Let. Go.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Dave in Vermont:

we can trick the evil server gods into thinking your someone else up to no good instead of the Stork who is up to all good and must be stopped by the techonogies
  12:08pm John from Florham park:

I have no problem hearing the stork show
Avatar 12:10pm coelacanth∅:

well that was fast
...maybe next week.
Avatar 12:11pm fred:

Yikes, you were not kidding about upcoming issues
Avatar 12:11pm coelacanth∅:

(getting the steram...but even that is constantly interrupted)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Doug Schulkind:

Damn. I let go. My fault, everyone.
Avatar 12:12pm coelacanth∅:

(stream, not "steram!)
Avatar 12:13pm coelacanth∅:

i actually only got about 5-10 seconds of Charlie Mariano before the trouble started
  12:14pm John from Florham park:

@Doug I think you need new hamsters:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Doug Schulkind:

@John from Florham park
Yeah, my old hamsters are for shit. Lazy little vermin refuse to climb in their rotating wheel of death (which powers the stream).
Avatar 12:18pm Wolfgang:

Very sorry once again folks. You ürobably noticed I am having really bad tech probs. This may not improve tonight. I am going to play the show through, and send the file to soeone who will up the archive more or less intact.
  12:19pm John from Florham park:

@Doug knock on wood now the stream has not cut out at all
Avatar 12:19pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Stork. we know you're trying.
  12:19pm John from Florham park:

@Wolfgang stuff happens
Avatar 12:20pm fred:

It's better now, I'm enjoying it while it lasts
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Doug Schulkind:

Don't worry, Stork fans. The show is only onward and upward. We shall solve this.
Avatar 12:20pm coelacanth∅:

i am very curious about that picture though
<
  12:21pm John from Florham park:

@Wokfgang in other words your not to blame, maybe SMK will take a look at it in Monday
Avatar 12:27pm Wolfgang:

Hey amazingly sweet kind people. Thanks for being so understanding. I will try to keep going tonight. This will be a very disjointed (more than usual) litening experience at The Stork
Avatar 12:29pm fred:

Hey, this still works much better than the transit system in Paris these days

Monica presented a Blossom Dearie special in 2009 that was pure magic: wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

so! much! Blossom! Dearie! i wish i'd seen her perform live. Wow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Loves that drunk old rightwing grump Kerouac. Knew his Jazzes.
Avatar 1:18pm fred:

Monica is the perfect person to do that tribute. I'll have to listen to that later
  1:18pm Ike:

Wow, normally I can’t stand Sinatra, but that was pretty good! Of course Nat King Cole is far better but I liked that humanizing effect on Sinatra, he sounded a lot less like a perfect arrogant singing android than usual LOL
  1:21pm melinda:

Hi gang!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

i remember taking the train from Tacoma to SF when i was about 17 or 18 and buying the Jack Kerouac recordings on cassette!!! At City Lights Books.
  1:25pm melinda:

@Granny cool! I so would have loved to do that as a teen.
Avatar 1:26pm fred:

@Ike: don't go too hard on Sinatra. He did release a duet with Bono, but (as far as I know) he never recorded anything with Felder
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

melinda: i feel pretty fortunate. that was such a magickal journey. and now i've lived in SF for over three decades and am friends with folx who work at City Lights. Dreams do come true!
  1:26pm Ike:

@fred, ha ha ha
  1:34pm John from Florham park:

@melinda howdy
@Granny is that book store still around?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Frankie one of those Artistes it pays to be selective with...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

City Lights is an institution.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

@John from Florham park: City Lights is going strong, working toward 70 years! The co-founder, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, just celebrated his 100th birthday!
Avatar 1:38pm fred:

@RevRab: Usually a good position with any artist. Except maybe Jandek. I mean, if you're going to be selective, why go there in the first place?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

We had a Boogie Swing piano wizard.
Somehow the discontinuity goes with it being 60°F in New Hampshire.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Holy Goofs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Doug Schulkind:

My sister owns the cabin Ferlinghetti built in Big Sur. The location where Kerouac wrote Big Sur and that was a sort of HQ for the beats. Half the cabin got washed away in floods in 2017, but they are rebuilding.
  1:40pm John from Florham park:

&Granny damn that’s great for the owner and book store
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

A few Artistes I'm a Completist. Oh look Hendrix was just doodling for 40 seconds - how interesting... I wish there was a Phil Schapp of Hendrix...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

@Doug: cool! I hope the rebuild goes well, that flood was devastating!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

onward!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Wow Doug.
  1:42pm melinda:

@Doug wow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Big Sur actually kind of the beginning of the Darkness for Kerouac...
Avatar 1:45pm fred:

I only heard about Ferlinghetti recently, from listener Sem. I must confess I haven't read anything by him though. Reading time is hard to come by these days
  1:47pm melinda:

My father went to City Lights when he was in Navy training at Treasure Island in the late 50s, must have been exciting for a young person from West Texas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Ferlinghetti - kind of a declamatory style. Always a Cultural voice like that - social. Running the bookstore to represent outsiders & poetry like that goes with that...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Doug Schulkind:

Allen Ginsberg wrote Bixby Canyon Ocean Path Word Breeze at the cabin. (The cabin is in Bixby Canyon, the fold of inland greenery that extends below the iconic Bixby Canyon Bridge.) The title poem describes the magical walk to the ocean from the cabin which was a rustic gambol through the woods, along a creek, with makeshift log bridges and stepping-stone jags. The path had remained virtually untouched since the '50s, but all got washed away in the flood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Big Sur still a Piscean communion with the voice of the Sea for Jack...
  1:54pm melinda:

Sounds like a beautiful place.
Avatar 1:57pm fred:

The switch between the bot and the stream isn't that bad, but I guess DJs like control
Avatar 2:05pm Wolfgang:

amazing.. there are still people there
  2:05pm Ike:

You’re back!
Avatar 2:05pm fred:

Still here
Avatar 2:06pm geezerette:

Wondered what was up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm fleep:

Had to bail and walk the cat, glad to hear you.
Avatar 2:13pm Sem:

Had to bail, discover a new noble gas. Back now.
New gas: nosweatium.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm doctorjazz:

These Threadgill Sextette albums are just fabulous (been listening, busy working).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm doctorjazz:

My favorite (at least most listened to) track on the Wildflowers compilations! (I'm a sucker for fractured blues).
Avatar 2:46pm Wolfgang:

Me too, Doctor Jazz! But there's amazig stuff on there besides!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm doctorjazz:

Absolutely, which is why I hedged the "favorite track". It is so much fun to listen to, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Fractured Blues. Love it.
  2:55pm melinda:

Fleet do you really walk your cat?
Avatar 2:57pm Sem:

Glad to have been along for this week's show. Take care, Stork, and catch you and Clubbers here next time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...sometimes Mingus walks it for him...
  2:57pm melinda:

Fleep not fleet. Goddamn autocorrect.
Avatar 2:58pm fred:

This worked out better than expected, thanks Stork
Avatar 3:02pm northguineahills:

Thanks, Stork!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm ParUbi:
