With billows and blasts from choirs and orchesters
Buskers and talkers
Big bands and squawkers,
the Stork Club has retained its qualities of decaying elegance and dwindling significance since the late 1950s.

Hello, fellow idiots!
Avatar 12:01pm fred:

Good afternoon Stork and all lining up at the bar. I hope the technical difficulties are behind us
Avatar 12:01pm Wolfgang:

James!n First seat at the bar... what's your poison?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm listener james from westwood:

Kölsch bier!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

@Dean: that's right, you're Bay Area, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Stork and club clowns
any drink specials?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm coelacanth∅:

i've been wanting to hear kraftwerk since last night when Marty played some
  12:08pm Ike:

Jasmine green tea is always the answer.
Avatar 12:09pm Wolfgang:

Thanks for the info, Dean!
Avatar 12:10pm fred:

@Ike: Jasmine ice cream is delicious
Avatar 12:11pm Wolfgang:

Kölsch it is! People in Münster don't much care for it. Too weak for them, but I love it! When you're in Köln they bring you a second glass unless you stop them (the glasses are only 0.2 liters, so..)
Avatar 12:12pm Wolfgang:

GrannyFredDougieIke - climb into the car - plenty of room!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm doctorjazz:

This Hemphill is lovely! Hi, clubbers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Doug Schulkind:

  12:16pm Ike:

Oh wow, I’ve had some excellent exotic ice cream flavors (black sesame, lucuma, soursop, extra stinky durian in the Bangkok airport basement) but I don’t think I’ve tried jasmine!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

i pretty much like any floral ice cream flavor. what would freud dream about that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm coelacanth∅:

the ice cream shop on main st. in new hope pa had it but i haven't been there in >20 years. i don't even know if the shop is still there.
the jasmine flavor was more like an essence and too subtle for me at that particular moment.
(favorite flavor there: rose)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm coelacanth∅:

Granny, i know but i wont say!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Doug Schulkind:

That Hemphill/Wadud duet reminds of the time back in 2015 when rumors were circulating that Wadud had died. He had dropped out of the music world without a trace and hadn't performed or recorded in many years. Longtime listener Joel Wanek followed some connections and "found" Wadud and he consented to do an interview with Wanek and the superb cellist Tomeka Reid. Save this link and read it after Stork's done. Worth your time: www.pointofdeparture.org...
Avatar 12:24pm Sem:

Along for the flight of the Stork Club today, sitting back here in cargo class.
Greets, the Stork, Clubbers, and Clubbers to-be.

Avatar 12:27pm Wolfgang:

Wow, Doug, what a lead! I will follow it up after i park the clown car. Thanks, Drummer Buddy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm coelacanth∅:

hey Sem -hope you don't mind the company too much. i had to sneak into cargo class off of the tail. shhh.
Avatar 12:32pm Sem:

Hiya, coel. Better you than the grabby squid I sat next to last week.
Avatar 12:36pm Wolfgang:

Sorry, Sem. It sez right on the damn door "No Grubby Squids!!"
  12:37pm melinda:

Hi group! Happy Sunday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Doug Schulkind:

Nice photo of Wadud with Tomeka Reid taken at the interview: twitter.com...
Avatar 12:38pm Sem:

Heh. Need a bouncer/biologist back here, keep the place proper.
  12:41pm melinda:

@Granny I like florals too, though I don’t know if I’ve had floral ice cream. I use rosewater to enhance things.
  12:48pm bigplanetnoise:

Good afternoon, Clubbers!
  12:49pm John from Florham park:

Hello fellow stork club listeners
Avatar 12:49pm Sem:

I fancy this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

melinda: rosewater is my favorite thing to add to almost anything. It's delicious in porridge. mmmm
howdy, JfFp!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Doug Schulkind:

  12:52pm John from Florham park:

@GST howdy
Avatar 12:54pm fred:

I never had it in ice cream form, but I love chrysanthemum tea
  12:57pm melinda:

@fred me too.
  12:59pm Jeff g. via app:

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks like we’ve lost Jimmy Heath. :(
  1:01pm John from Florham park:

Jeff g who is jimmy heap?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Doug Schulkind:

Jimmy Heath carried the rather unfortunate nickname "Little Bird." What a sweet man he was.
Avatar 1:03pm Wolfgang:

Oh no! My best friend's wife is a concert violinist and was photo'ed with Jimmy a few years back - hugs and grins - so sad!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Doug Schulkind:

@John from Florham park
Actually, there was a western swing and honky-tonk artist/bandleader named Jimmy Heap.
  1:03pm Jeff g. via app:

@John: he was a saxophone player, came up in bebop, and had musician brothers. He was 93.
  1:05pm John from Florham park:

@Jeff g just read about him on Wikipedia and sorry for messing his name up
@Doug wow thanks for the nugget of info
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm doctorjazz:

That is sad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Doug Schulkind:

Jimmy's brother, the drummer Albert Heath had a better nickname: Tootie (though sometimes spelled Toudie). He is also called Kuumba by those who love him.
Avatar 1:12pm WR:

From the NPR link: "Moses is dead. The tablets are still here," Schaap declares. "Well, Jimmy Heath read the commandments of jazz, and he got the tablets from the great prophets. And he used it his way to great benefit, and he even fed it back towards the prophets. You know, Miles Davis used his stuff. Charlie Parker used his stuff. And John Coltrane was nurtured by Jimmy Heath." Well stated, Andrew should be celebrating a life well spent.
Avatar 1:15pm WR:

LOL, don't know how Andrew got involved, damn auto text.
Avatar 1:20pm fred:

@WR: Maybe the "well spent" phrase triggered anticipation of the coming soaking of Mr Andrew Ross Breckman

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Doug Schulkind:

Continental Subway is live on the Drummer Stream, 3-7pm (eastern). One hour of the show is simulcast on Radio Blau in Leipzig.
Avatar 1:38pm WR:

Doug, you seem fixated on Miles Davis potty mouth. Two drummer updates in a row referencing Miles & MF.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Doug Schulkind:

Oh I am fixated on Miles alright, but I only recall one update referencing Miles' famous potty mouth.
Avatar 1:44pm Wolfgang:

Thanks for the clarification, Dougie Babay
Avatar 1:45pm WR:

Not an issue for me, but check your thanks to fleep on Friday. Then when saw your feature photo and comment today I wondered what might be the catalyst.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Doug Schulkind:

Ah today's email blast. The photo and comment accompanying today's mailing was produced by someone else on the stream. A different DJ sends out the mailing each day. I only do the Friday mailing. But it is safe to say that Give the Drummer Radio has Miles on the brain for sure.
Avatar 1:49pm WR:

At least you know someone is reading, I often use it to get the link to the stream playlist.
  1:49pm Ike:

Wait, whom am I irking now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Doug Schulkind:

Providing the links to each day's playlists is the service we aim to provide. So glad you're taking advantage of it!
Avatar 1:55pm Wolfgang:

Ooo, ooo, can I add a filthy Miles utterance - it was to clarify for John Coltrane when should end his solo. SHould I? Or already been done?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

enjoying all of the sounds coming through
Avatar 2:00pm Wolfgang:

Glad you like, Granny (he says, eating tuna - this batch not so spicy really). Hope I'm not cannibalizing the listenership.
Avatar 2:20pm fred:

Happy day for me: I got a handmade card from a friend who included her new phone number, and I called her. We were besties 30 years ago, but keeping in touch has been challenging at times (she has schizophrenia). I'm so happy to have talked to her today
Avatar 2:21pm WR:

Direct unbacked DJ voices are more than OKAY with me.
Avatar 2:24pm WR:

Great news Fred. The survival of friends and the friendship is to be celebrated.
Avatar 2:30pm Wolfgang:

That's really wonderful, Fred. I also had a good friend who's schizophrenic - finally lost touch with her - also about 30 years ago.
Avatar 2:43pm fred:

@Stork: I thought I had lost touch too, so maybe she'll contact you someday too
Avatar 2:46pm WR:

At the start of that Bowie song I thought you were playing a cover of Cream tune.
Avatar 2:56pm WR:

Hope you have a good week Herr Stork, thanks for the sounds. Good wishes as well to all the GTD listeners.
Avatar 3:00pm fred:

Thanks Stork, until next week
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm Doug Schulkind:

Thanks, Storkums! Beautifulness!
Avatar 3:02pm Wolfgang:

Hope so, Fred. Hope she's ok.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Stork
Avatar 3:10pm Wolfgang:

Thanks, WR - right back at you, and you Doug coelacanth∅, Fred Granny and all - get home safe.
