G'day, Julie. Just curious, are you ever tempted to play that Bobby Sherman song though you may find it revolting ?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Julie:

maaaaybe. I think Clay played it for me once.

Avatar 12:33pm C.S.:

Music sends me to another place free from problems...but it also isolates me from most people who have never heard of these wonderful but obscure artists that lie outside the mainstream.
  12:35pm John from Florham park:

Hello fellow dark soul listeners
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Julie:

hi John!
  12:36pm John from Florham park:

Hey Julie
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Phillippe Bastille:

@C.S. I can seriously emphasize with that. I used to get "What are listening to NOW" (or it's sidekick "WHAT are you LISTENING TO?") a couple times a week from the family members I live with, now they don't even bother to say anything. My friends are of the age that if it ain't classic rock or country they aren't listening.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Phillippe Bastille:

*empathize"
Avatar 12:40pm C.S.:

It just boggles my mind why anyone would just listen to the same old same old all the time. Boring.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Julie:

my dad says I play weird music on my show. I'd like to introduce him to Bryce or Fabio's shows
Avatar 12:43pm C.S.:

Yep. Weird music. That's how they describe it. Wouldn't change for anything, though. Great tunes, Julie and new discoveries. Catch the rest on archive. Bye.
Avatar 12:44pm duke:

@Julie :There are two kinds of music. Good music, and the other kind." Just because it's weird doesn't mean it's not good.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Julie:

Bye CS!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Julie:

hi duke!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Julie:

this show is less comfort food, more oddities I think. I try to get a good mix of familiar & strange but after last week's "stuff I haven't played before" I felt more adventurous this week too.
Avatar 12:47pm βrian:

Add some mint: "Mmm, peach-mint!"
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Phillippe Bastille:

Friday afternoon is Marbles in a Blender time in my office. Family stays away. and I agree about how dreadful it would be to listen to the same stuff again and again, but I can understand. Some people just get stuck in the place where they were happiest, in music, clothes, etc. My brother-in-law is one of those people. I've known him for about 35 years and he's changes he's hairstyle once, still wears golf polos, khakis, and Levis exclusively, and only listens to classic rock. There's actually research out there that says that listening to familiar music stimulates feel-good endorphins, particularly in those stuck in the past folks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm brainiac:

I embrace the doom of Dru-Amelia

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Julie:

@Brian I keep waiting for the Ben & Jerrys flavor!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Julie:

I wonder what chemicals get stirred up when you hear something brand new you really love
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Phillippe Bastille:

Not sure. I can tell you that I find new stuff that instantly attracts me is something that sounds like something else. Probably the same endorphins
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:55pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Julie:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:06pm listener james from westwood:

Always up for latter-day synthpop, too!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Right time of the year for some peach schnapps, although it's a bit too warm this week.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:09pm listener james from westwood:

I am at least whistling! (I hope to sing this in karaoke with dozens of drunk copy editors in Salt Lake City come April. Very Gale Boetticher of me but hey.)
Avatar 1:10pm talvi ei tule (a.k.a. huomenta):

Hi Julie and fellow listeners. Good to hear your show again, missed last show though. Well there are the archives, from where I checked out the Kinks "70s show" recently. Interesting that you played Jack The Idiot Dunce there, its Finnish cover version - "Jerry Cotton" by Kontra - was something of a hit here around late 70s.
Avatar 1:12pm βrian:

Oh, that's right. They serve alcohol in UT now, right?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:16pm listener james from westwood:

Believe me, the first things we all verified were nearby booze and caffeine, because copy editors.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Julie:

hiya Ken! Hi Talvi! Oh wow I will have to check that out!
Avatar 1:18pm βrian:

You want alcohol *and* hot drink!!
  1:21pm Mr Nobody:

They do have some nice breweries and distilleries over there.
  1:22pm Mr Nobody:

And who doesn't enjoy a nice Irish coffee?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Julie:

Me, I hate coffee.
  1:23pm Mr Nobody:

We all have faults. lol
Avatar 1:25pm βrian:

I grew up in a percolator household, so it was easy to avoid coffee. But then I lived in France.
  1:27pm Mr Nobody:

Coffee wasn't terribly big in our house. When I visited either set of grandparents there would always be a pot going. Some of my early memories are sitting with my grandfather having a cup of coffee with him before we went out to tend the animals.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Julie:

I don't even like the smell. Too connected with mom & dad and early mornings from childhood
  1:29pm Mr Nobody:

Now I do drink a decent bit but usually not first thing in the morning. I cannot remember the last time I had a cup before I got to the office. Once here though I usually keep my cup topped off. I think it is more habit than needing a caffeine fix.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Phillippe Bastille:

I'm heading off the board but will be listening via headphones while I get some yard work in before the ice age starts again tomorrow. Thank you Julie, will catch you next week or on the twitterverse!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm brainiac:

Used to be coffee was utilitarian. Drank it at the office just to get through work.
Then I had a good cup from a french press. Game over.
  1:33pm Mr Nobody:

My wife needs a cup before she gets out of bed. It has its own place near the foundation on her hierarchy of needs.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Julie:

thanks for visiting Phillippe!
Avatar 1:33pm βrian:

The smell of acrid percolator coffee the first thing in the morning can be quite off-putting.

But when a sweetie serves you a good cup of filter-brewed coffee while cooing in your ear ... well, that changes things.
  1:33pm Mr Nobody:

Adios Phillippe
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Julie:

I'll take the sweetie, hold the coffee
Avatar 1:34pm βrian:

I had to re-read to make sure that coffee wasn't Unitarian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm brainiac:

At least I never started roasting my own beans. (I realize this is the rational of addicts of all kinds.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm brainiac:

*rationale
  1:39pm Mr Nobody:

Our dining room is decorated with coffee paraphernalia. Drip, several presses, old percolators, coffee cart, themed paintings, mugs, grinders and bags of beans. Even the walls are painted like coffee and cream. Coffee is an essential part of life in the Nobody household.
Avatar 1:39pm βrian:

Espresso while camping is a favorite treat. Intensely deep, dark coffee in a steel cup.

Hearing the distinctive clink as you toast your sweetie in the early morning chill. Ah, yes!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Julie:

Wow Mr Nobody you guys are HARDcore
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm brainiac:

This sounds like it could be your personal anthem, yes Julie?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Julie:

certainly could be!
Avatar 1:44pm βrian:

"If the river was coffee and I was a duck, I'd swim to the bottom and never come up."
  1:53pm Alex In Illinois:

I saw Cats in London in the early 80's. It was a spectacle of dance and costume but I don't recall it having a story line. I think I dosed off
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Michael 98145:

Happy Twenties, Julie
a natural coffee drink to whoever wants one
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Julie:

it's a very ephemeral storyline. I think they added more story for the movie honestly.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Julie:

hiya Michael!
  1:55pm Alex In Illinois:

@(beta)rian: I've heard a sea shanty or 2 line that, but about whiskey
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm brainiac:

Holy shit! I just now realized E.G. Daily was Dottie in 'Pee Wee's Big Adventure'
That was before the lip implants
  1:59pm Mr Nobody:

@Julie Oh we are SOMETHING alright.
  2:00pm Mr Nobody:

@Alex I have always heard the same. Whiskey and coffee can go together quite well so I guess both work.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Julie:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Julie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm brainiac:

I thought this was going to be a cover of "Wives & lovers"
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Julie:

I have the First Songs cd which I think is mostly the same, though I'd have to double check
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Julie:

it's got a golden brown feel to it, I think
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Michael 98145:

( yes "1967 – More Than a New Discovery (later reissued as The First Songs)" )
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Julie:

the reissued LP is tempting though

  2:36pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Julie!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:38pm Julie:

hi there Funky16. What is your stance on coffee?
Avatar 2:39pm βrian:

I have one friend who does not like coffee but loves coffee ice cream.
  2:40pm Funky16Corners:

I find it essential. Cold brew in the morning. Maybe hot coffee later on if it’s particularly chilly.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:40pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Michele mentioned that the station had no coffee, so I sent some in last week.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Julie:

No coffee?! Wow. that's unusual.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:41pm listener james from westwood:

Juliana!

WFMU without coffee is a horrible prospect. I know they occasionally have a supplier of these big bags of beans.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I don't remember her exact statement, but I understood it to mean she needed coffee.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:46pm Michael 98145:
