Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Ken From Hyde Park:

G'day, mates! I remember "I Have the Skill" from The Sherbs playing on the radio way back when. Also saw Midnight Oil play at the Beacon Theatre in NYC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Phillippe Bastille:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Julie:

did you always have that kitty?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Ken From Hyde Park:

My head bobbing cat? I found the picture maybe a year ago. Also found some satellite pictures of the bushfires - www.space.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Julie:

a couple of the songs are super predictable choices, but they are so good I couldn't leave them out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Julie:

like the NEXT one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm listener james from westwood:

Always have time for this bit of 80s music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm listener james from westwood:

Hah, as I was saying! A lesser-heard one on the grim wasteland that is NYC-area radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Julie:

NYC radio was great in the 80s. WLIR anyone?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Michael 98145:

Ah, Julie.
Haven't listened to commercial radio since i don't know when.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Julie:

in a car sometimes, or grocery store
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Handy Haversack:

Ah, there he is!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Handy Haversack:

I found Nick Cave through radio originally, I think when this album came out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Julie:

oh yes, was not going to forget Nick!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Phillippe Bastille:

I've been a big fan of Australian Alex Lahey. Any chance of hearing her (check for need for bleep button, if you are so inclined)?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Julie:

Don't know her! Will check her out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Julie:

no bleeps, we are internet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Phillippe Bastille:

that's what I thought. Just making sure you aren't a Puritan goth...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Phillippe Bastille:

vlc player is wayyyy behind for some reason. Nick Cave just started
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm listener james from westwood:

"Overkill" = suitable on a day when they tweaked the Doomsday Clock 20 seconds closer to midnight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Julie:

wow
  1:13pm John from Florham park:

Hello fellow dark night listeners listeners

@Julie I noticed that too with my ear phones
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Make Australia Great Again (for funnel web spiders)!
  1:42pm John from Florham park:

A couple of stations I like from Australia are triple from the ABC and 3RRR from Melbourne they play a lot of wonderful music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thinking back, I may have seen Frente in the early 90s at The Chance in Poughkeepsie. The show was with Murmurs, G Love and Special Sauce, with local band Perfect Thyroid on the bill.
  1:47pm Anna:

3RRR are great!!
  1:48pm Anna:

Also saw Frente in the 90s. Bless her sweet voice
  1:55pm John from Florham park:

@Anna I know they rock
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Phillippe Bastille:

Triple J's Like a Version vids are always fun
  1:56pm John from Florham park:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Rich in Washington:

  2:02pm Anna:

oops! technically a NZ band but they moved to Sydney!
  2:05pm John from Florham park:

@Anna not a lot of people in the states know about the stations I just mentioned
  2:07pm Anna:

YAY! glad you are enjoying the tunes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Julie:

hi Rich!
  2:08pm Anna:

Triple J was ESSENTIAL back in the day! And RAGE which was our MTV
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Rich in Washington:

I didn't know Kylie Minogue was Australian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Rich in Washington:

when I was a teen I owned the book The New Rock N' Roll, which was predominately Australian New Wave and rock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm doctorjazz:

Hi Julie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm listener james from westwood:

We in the US also tend to focus on the seeming ridiculous profusion of venomous things. Spiders! Snakes! Cone snails!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Handy Haversack:

Octopuses. Platypuses. All venomous!
  2:23pm Esther Crow:

Hi Julie! Hi Anna!!!!! tuned in and loving every minute :) ICEHOUSE! YAY!!
  2:24pm Anna:

people love to talk about the crazy animals that can kill you in Australia...and its TRUE ha, but there are a lot of gorgeous innocent creatures
  2:25pm talvi tulee?:

Hi Julie, Anna, everyone. Good choices so far but Icehouse is my personal fav. No fillers on this album.
  2:25pm Anna:

haha there you are esther!! knew you would love Icehouse!
  2:26pm Anna:

@talvi tulee? Icehouse RULE!
Avatar 2:26pm βrian:

Funnel-web spiders!
  2:26pm Anna:

@Brian Redbacks!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

venomous cephalopods?!?!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Koalas are at serious risk of becoming extinct due to the fires and other factors (disease and habitat destruction, mainly). Poor critters!
  2:27pm Anna:

White tail spiders are the worst too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Phillippe Bastille:

snakes aka danger noodles
  2:29pm talvi tulee?:

Icehouse/Flowers is also a mighty album. I have a 1984 childhood memory watching them on Finnish TV (it was actually the West German Rockpalast programme) while I was having brutal cold. It turned out not to be a fake memory even if I had a bit of a temperature as I found the same exact show from youtube, yay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Bulldog ants!
  2:31pm Anna:

@ken YES! They are in danger of extinction because they are spread out rather than together in one place where they can regroup...
Avatar 2:32pm Hubig Pie:

Snow snakes !
  2:34pm Anna:

Please don't remind me of the bulldog ants!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Julie:

I need to listen to more INXS
Avatar 2:40pm Hubig Pie:

I feel 24 yrs old now and it feels great
  2:41pm John from Florham park:

Have not heard this inxs song in a long time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Handy Haversack:

There was a great "Almost Famous" with Joe Belock for INXS on WAB ... last week?
  2:43pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Julie!
  2:43pm Anna:

@hubig pie ME TOO!
  2:43pm John from Florham park:

@Handy I remember that
  2:44pm Anna:

All INXS is great but SHABOOH SHOOBAH is magic
  2:45pm John from Florham park:

@Anna damn right
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Handy Haversack:

@John from FP, right it was their single as the Vegetables, B-side of the first INXS single. Such a great band.
  2:46pm John from Florham park:

@Handy too bad the lead singer killed him self
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm Handy Haversack:

Definitely. It was Jan. 6, BTW, on Wake and Bake.
Avatar 2:48pm Hubig Pie:

The Swing was always plugged into the car cassette player when I first started dating me future spouse
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Rich in Washington:

I hear a wobble board!
Avatar 2:49pm coelacanth∅:

been in and out of earshot today, working, and don't know when Anna came on (hi Anna!) but i haven't heard of too many of these artists. died pretty, inxs, divinyls (which i didn't know was australian)...i guess most of the aussie music my former gf from down under turned me onto are more "punk" oriented
  2:49pm John from Florham park:

@Handy noticed that wake and bake is a gateway program
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Julie & Anna. Fun show today. Good luck raising money and awareness for l'Aust causes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm Rich in Washington:

i know what you mean, coelacanth∅. Most of my knowledge of Aussie bands tend towards Radio Birdman, The Birthday Party, The Scientists, Beasts of Bourbon, et al, but I sometimes forget that Australia had such a rich and variegated music scene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Handy Haversack:

Seems that way, @John from FP.

Thanks for the tunes, Julie and Anna! Have been coming and going, but digging it!
Avatar 2:52pm βrian:

Some redback spider has bitten the Drummer Stream. Unable to connect.
Avatar 2:54pm coelacanth∅:

i love those others! but beasts of bourbon -that's a new one on me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Rich in Washington:

This was a fantastic show! Thanks so much!
  2:54pm John from Florham park:

@Julie and Anna thanks for the great show
And Julie wish Anna did have her own show
Avatar 2:54pm Hubig Pie:

The Chills and The Verlaines are Aussie bands, amiright ? Maybe they're Kiwi ?
Avatar 2:55pm coelacanth∅:

verlaines is kiwi
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Rich in Washington:

@coelacanth∅: they were an offshoot of The Scientists (I think), who were rooted in US country, rockabilly, goofy Cramps inspired rock. Recommended, esp. their debut album.
Avatar 2:56pm coelacanth∅:

(i should know where the chills is from...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Sheila B. has done some DJ sets with Anna, I do believe. Makes me wish I could get down there more often.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm Julie:

thanks for listening everyone! see ya next week!
Avatar 2:57pm coelacanth∅:

already noted Rich -Thanks!
  2:57pm John from Florham park:

Guys when radio Australia used to be on shortwave they had this country music show called black tracker which played wonderful country music
  2:57pm Anna:

Thanks for listening! YES! So much punk rock which is what made it over here more than the indie stuff it seems. Thought I should give them their due!! Radio Birdman are def faves!!
Avatar 2:58pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Julie! Thanks Anna! take care
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm listener james from westwood:

Many thanks, Anna and Julie!
  2:58pm Anna:

@ken yes! I dance for SHeila B all the time! I'm a 60s go go dancer!
  2:59pm Anna:

xx!
  2:59pm Mr Nobody:

Enjoyed the show! Thank you Julie and Anna.
Avatar 2:59pm coelacanth∅:
