Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07am ultradamno:

Has anyone played 5:45 at 5:45 yet?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Oh, yes, thank you! Hi, TomDash & folx!
  12:08am greatbarrington:

hi all. Entertainment! was my smartest used cassette purchase as a young lad!
Swag For Life Member 12:09am dave miss:

greetings Tom and Dashing listeners
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11am coelacanth∅:

ultra d, 545 rpm?
  12:12am steveL:

Who would have thought, 35-ish years ago, this would be the soundtrack to my letting the dogs out as snow starts sticking to the deck?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13am ultradamno:

I was thinking on the time, but speed could be a factor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13am ultradamno:

That way it would likely play all the way through by 5:46
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

i really want to hear something on 545 rpm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14am coelacanth∅:

haha yeah
  12:15am rw:

That was a well loved single. Sounds great, man!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15am Aitch:

I saw Gang of Four (Andy Gill and 3 young blokes) late last year. Was supposed to be March, but he was ill.
Good show, he was still tearing it up on the guitar, but only did the response singing. Might have been one of their last shows? Lucky to see it.
  12:15am steveL:

He’d Send in the Army/Urrgh a Music War.

  12:17am greatbarrington:

there has never and will never be a song like 5:45 again. there has never and will never be a band like Gang of Four again
  12:19am rw:

This one's my favorite. What We All Want
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20am coelacanth∅:

a friend turned me onto go4 and the jam in one night -brought over entertainment! and setting sons. (Thanks Carl) i immediately bought my own copies and put them on a tdk 90 straight away because i knew i'd be listening to them both constantly -which i did do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20am TomDash:

Evening folks! A little busy here with the tribute, but will be sure to chime in soon when I catch my breath!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am coelacanth∅:

...and i like the solid gold album just as much, or nearly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24am Rory:

Gang of Four was so influential during my teens. Used to listen to Solid Gold and Entertainment all the time.
  12:24am Nicholas:

Thanks so much for the tribute to a brilliant guitarist and band. I was in school in '79. Still have my vinyl edition of Entertainment! Saw them in the early 80's at the Brandywine Club in Chadds Ford, with Sara Lee on bass. One of the most well-produced shows I have ever seen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am TomDash:

Rory - me too! Got Entertainment dubbed on cassette from my older brother in mid 80s...changed everything! Thanks all for tuning in! Wrapping up the tribute soon...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31am coelacanth∅:

i haven't tried to listen to all the Andy Gill tributes on fmu because gang of 4 never got relegated to memory. i've listened to those 2 albums straight through at least once/year (average!) since they were released and frequently play songs from both on the jukebox at the pub.
- but i'm glad to be hearing this now.
Avatar 12:32am Pete from Melbourne:

Loving Gang of Four. We also just lost another Andy, Andrew Brough from Straightjacket Fits. RIP
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32am TomDash:

Nicholas - my brother and wife got to see them many times first time around, Boston, NYC, etc...I am so thankful I got to see the first reunion shows with all 4 members in early 2000s.Can only imagine how amazing they would have been in the prime late 70s/early 80s era!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am coelacanth∅:

ah shit. rest in peace Andrew Brough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am TomDash:

getting to a straighjacket fits song later in the show...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am ultradamno:

I hadn't heard that. I really liked Dialling A Prayer from that Getting Older comp. RIP
Avatar 12:36am Pete from Melbourne:

Thanks @TomDash
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am coelacanth∅:

Thankful to see them when songs of the free came out -at the pier (some pier) in ny -for like 5 bucks!
but still -then and still - curse not getting to see them before that, with Dave Allen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40am ultradamno:

I was just thinking of acts you could say GOF influenced, early Mekons, Au Pairs, The Proletariat, Really Red with that Prostitution song, Big Black...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42am Rory:

Nirvana
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am TomDash:

hey ultradamno - was gonna get into some bands they influenced, but will stick with a few fellow Leeds bands...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am coelacanth∅:

maybe the pixies
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am coelacanth∅:

ha! i was just thinking that band that did "too many creeps"...who was that?! they were influenced by go4
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am ultradamno:

Bush Tetras
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am blee:

damn. so. good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46am coelacanth∅:

right thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am ultradamno:

That Urgh clip was a standout from that movie (up there with Pere Ubu) Gill really stares down the crowd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am coelacanth∅:

ultra d i laughed about saying that because i wasn't sure if i was imagining it.
still not sure.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03am TomDash:

Wow - hey there Ilya! went down a Russian rabbit hole recently...more international post-punk to come!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04am ultradamno:

Hi, Ilya. Daniel Blumin had a show with a whole bunch of Russian fare not too long ago www.wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05am coelacanth∅:

the whole show,right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06am ultradamno:

Yep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10am TomDash:

Daniel Blumin steered me to a few bands...working on my Marathon premium, international post-punk comp!
Avatar 1:11am Ilya from Saratov:

Hi, ultradamno! Impressive list, great. I especially like from there Zvuki Mu. I highly recommend this - www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13am ultradamno:

Looks cool though I wouldn't try to recreate the cover at home with real cats.
Avatar 1:17am Ilya from Saratov:

The leader of the group, Peter Mamonov, is today one of the most famous Christian Orthodox in Russia.

  1:26am Dr. Strangelove:

Mamonov collaborated with Brian Eno?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28am ultradamno:

Eno produced a Zvuki Mu album, this one I think www.discogs.com...
Avatar 1:30am Ilya from Saratov:

Yes, it happens :)
  1:30am Dr. Strangelove:

Cool, thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30am ultradamno:

He doesn't appear to have any co-writing credits, though www.allmusic.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30am coelacanth∅:

that was interesting...like something in-between Scott Walker and joy division
Avatar 1:30am northguineahills:

Finally fixed my phone so I could listen to WFMU in my car. Made the drive so much better, thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33am coelacanth∅:

so if i were still or again buying records i would've discovered zvuki mu by leafing through the Eno bin, and buying it based on association, among other things
  1:34am vanya moscow:

Missed the Russian tracks but always happy to find compatriots sharing my passion for the station. Hi, Ilya, hi everyone

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39am coelacanth∅:

ngh Blumin came to the us as a child
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41am coelacanth∅:

  1:41am vanya moscow:

Hi, coelacanth! It’s hard to say it, but I have to say it - It’s very likely. Hey Ilya, if you’re ever in Moscow let me know we could have a listening party (no touching). Vanya Zhuk on Facebook

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05am coelacanth∅:

hi sispus...not sure if i'm a dot or a dash
Avatar 2:05am Ilya from Saratov:

No, not in a band or even close to any kind of creativity. I just started to dig music deeply from school, as a result I came to WFMU and KFJC five or six years ago.
Avatar 2:06am Ilya from Saratov:

But then I found you at the discogs :)
