A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Loretta Lynn carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Avatar 9:48am JakeGould:

Trouble is right. But be careful of empowered bigots in the aftermath of this all.

Nobody here really can affect the nonsense that is happening with Drumpf and his thugs. But the reality is I think everyone here has the power to be more aware of nonsense happening around them in the real world. Meaning, morons who see Drumpf’s non-impeachment as validation of behavior might just decide to be more racist, hateful and bigoted. That is not needed. That should be reacted to.

Also, tons of undeserving things win awards all the time. For example, what film won best picture Oscar in 1980? “Ordinary People” a film most people didn’t care about by 1981. You know what film also came out in 1980 that is still popular, taught in film school and considered a classic? “Raging Bull.” It didn’t win an Oscar but it’s respect and well regarded? How did that happen!

Disappointed that the Met's Theremin is not on their audio tour. A major omittance. Not good. Looks good - sounds silent. Great show!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am steveo:

@skitch, i love to look at the Met's musical instrument collection but, yeah, i always think "does anyone ever get to play these?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am Phillippe Bastille:

@snoochi Aljazeera has been taking it seriously. Their reporting on the coronavirus has been their lead story for days.
  10:50am prudy:

jfp: yes, yesterday's demonstration of government irrationality has rendered this great experiment just that. It's only going to get worse...days in bed seem a good option...
  10:51am Skitch:

@steveo Clearly no. Not much. Same in Berlin. Their musical instrument museum has an Ondes Martenot and other cool pieces. Don' think about hearing them except on the third Sunday after Lent between 3:00 and 3:12. Sheesh.
Avatar 10:52am Snoochienucci:

@jffp i mean i wouldnt be surprised. I saw a clip on the news last night of a supposed hosipital in china with bodyies lined up in bags on stretchers in parking lots. Un-verified of course, but still scary stuff

Avatar 10:53am TDK60:

Steveo: I was in the Met instruments room once, looking at old guitars. An apparently-famous violinist came in and staff took out an old fiddle from the glass cases; he played it. He had museum staff around him, maybe to keep anyone back from falling into the violin.

no@krpprltrbf. it's not a very exciting story: i had friends who were dj's and i guested on a show. after that ken asked me to make a demo tape. i worked at a record store while i was in art school and dj'ed at the tap room at same art school. Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am G:

Saw Fripp do material like this live in an Ann Arbor bar down the street from where I lived, 1977 or 78. Just Fripp and a loop machine with a fade setting. I think he called himself something like a small, highly intelligent mobile unit, i.e., the opposite of bands like Zep and Yes that traveled with dozens of trailers of equipment.
