Cool idea for a show! Did DC5 jump on the psych band-wagon?

DC5 were a very interesting and surprisingly prolific band.

Jonathan Donaldson:

What were their commercial fortunes after the initial boom?
  Swag For Life Member 6:10pm

And of course, were on Ed Sullivan more than any other '60s band...... correct? Or is that just an urban legend?

Avatar 6:11pm
cometothesunshine:

They picked back up on the charts in the UK during 1967, just as their commercial fortunes slid in the USA or US of Dave as it was known from 64-66.
Avatar 6:11pm
cometothesunshine:

DK - They appeared on Ed Sullivan 17 or 18 times, more than any other beat group.

Bingo!

My apologies - I had to fix the image of the US Everybody Knows album - it was a stereo instead of the correct mono!
Avatar 6:16pm
cometothesunshine:

Someone posted yesterday - "I hope he doesn't play all of those horrible mono mixes and gives us the stereo that Dave won't!" Well, this is one situation where Dave and I are quite like minded

You know, I am shocked the DC5 aren't more Revere'd than the Raiders, considering how many fuzzed out rockers they released.

Andrew, I was just thinking that The Raiders were like an American version of the DC5

Yes, they both had a raucous, rough edge, also the DC5 were equally adept with a ballad

in my opinion Dave Clark was a little rich kid who grabbed onto a formula and capitalized on it... then he got the rights to Ready Steady Go later on...that's all I know but I really never cared that much for them...maybe a couple of songs...jmo...

I've also noticed that DC5 weren't big on fade-outs...their songs tended to just stop.

I think it is easy to dismiss them, but they had a substantial creative output - more so than many other cult bands or early beat groups.

I think it had more to do with marketing than anything else Andrew???

One aspect is that they never did that one or two legendary albums that set some bands of the era apart.

I'll take 10 hours of Mark Lindsay's raw vocals over Dave Clark and the boyz, anyday...not to discount this well-put-together set, mind you...
Avatar 6:47pm

CC - I don't think Dave Clark was rich until he made the DC5 a success and took a share of every song and owned the publishing and masters. He did also pay for all of his own recording sessions, something almost no other recording artist did.
