Hi, Andrew! Doesn't the band's name depend on whether they're the subject or the object? For example, "The Guess Who are Winnipeg's finest band" vs. "I'm enjoying Andrew's set featuring the Guess Whom."

I think the breadth of the styles the Guess Who could do shows the differences in sound across the country. From show band styles to prairie stoner rock
Avatar 6:55pm

You would think Mike Curb approved of that last one.
Avatar 6:56pm

Keltie Harding:

Hey Andrew. Lord Keltor here. Did you nab those Coke jingles I shared?
Avatar 7:09pm
cometothesunshine:

I got Coke jingles from a listener of my show last year.
Avatar 7:09pm
cometothesunshine:

I did a Staccattos show and he helped and shared those then.
  7:11pm
Keltie Harding:

Nice. I love the Staccatos. When I heard "Half Past Midnight" as a teen, I fell in love with those harmonies.
  7:11pm
bigplanetnoise:

A - I had all original masters. Here’s the story. I started producing for CBS in ‘89. At that time there was NO archive department. The tape library was being overseen by the - gulp - finance department at CBS. Their job was not to preserve, but rather to dispose of tapes they felt were of no worth. It was insane. For five minutes back in the 70’s, CBS distributed the Scepter label. More than half the Scepter/Wand masters were scheduled to be destroyed. I went to the person in charge of the destruction and asked if I could BUY the tapes they were about to destroy. I struck a deal wherein I was able to purchase ANY tapes they had marked for scrap for $5 per reel!! I bought hundreds of tapes. Included were many, many Guess Who original masters from Quality Rec’s (not copies, actual masters). I bought them to my studio and let Randy Bachman know that I had them. He asked me what I wanted for them. I said “ nothing - just the rights to issue them!” And I sent him all of his masters.
Avatar 7:12pm
cometothesunshine:

That is so great, BPN!
  7:12pm
Keltie Harding:

OMG!!!!! Chad Solo!!!!! I never heard this song so cleanly.
Avatar 7:12pm

Yes, I have the original Mala 45 of this one, Keltie.
  7:13pm
bigplanetnoise:

Thx, A.
Avatar 7:13pm

Avatar 7:14pm
cometothesunshine:

And thanks for saving so much music, BPN.
  7:15pm
Keltie Harding:

So, BPN, have you come across the master tape for "It's Time"? the CD was a needledrop.
  7:15pm
Izzy:

Which is Big's comp?
Avatar 7:16pm
cometothesunshine:

No, BPN's comp is Shakin' All Over on Sundazed. All from tapes.
  7:16pm
Mark from TX:

I wonder if they ignore the early stuff (like Seger)
Avatar 7:17pm
cometothesunshine:

BPN has a great radio show that runs right after this one on an adjacent stream, BTW - worth checking out in a few!
Avatar 7:17pm
Photocopy Cha Cha:

@7:11 bigplanetnoise: like I said earlier, I am just getting to know The Guess Who, but what you did there was an unselfish act of preserving culture!
  7:18pm
bigplanetnoise:

@Photocopy - thx. That’s the way it’s all supposed to work, yes?!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm
Glynis GirlGroupGirl:

Always loved this one too. Burton’s voice ❤️
  7:19pm
Keltie Harding:

Yes, I know, but the old Legend CD put out by Randy was a needledrop provided by to Randy by the National Archives of Canada. An author friend of mine tracked down a person who is hoarding the It's Time master (don't know if its the master or a copy) and doesn't wanna let anyone access it. Sad.
Avatar 7:20pm

Yeah, I really dig these early versions of the songs.

I know. Bob's versions on the Sundazed sound fantastic.
Avatar 7:23pm
cometothesunshine:

Found this 45 in Toronto - different mix than A Wild Pair.
  7:23pm
bigplanetnoise:

@Keltie - I did not have the album masters for “It’s Time”. I had components of the album, (which I used on the Sundazed set), but not the complete album master.
  7:24pm
Keltie Harding:

Yeah, I can hear that. I need to get that single now....

Any forecast on the Burton/Randy shows? Are Burton's pipes still there?
Avatar 7:30pm
cometothesunshine:

They are like the Knickerbockers here
  7:30pm
Keltie Harding:

I think they're being postponed. BC's pipes are in good shape, better since he quit smoking.
Avatar 7:31pm
Photocopy Cha Cha:

@7:18 bigplanetnoise: supposed to work that way yes, but not all people care. Hard drives crash, digital files get corrupt and few people realize how irreplaceable tapes can be and on the other hand how "robust" as a format magnetic tape is.
  7:31pm

Izzy they are scheduled to play here in my city but we'll have to wait and see now.

Off topic, but will the DC5 fundraiser show be archived?

Love this song of Chad's.... kinda sad seeing how it was his last GW vocal....

It is archived on the WFMU site - right here in fact - look for the playlist on this site and you should be able to hear it. Won't be on Podomatic.

KH - how is the Vocalion CD twofer?
  7:54pm
Keltie Harding:

From what i've heard from Stereomole, its pretty decent. Nice separation. The stereo layer is ok. Vic's WS is still the go-to.

My personal story - I was on a cruise with Garry Peterson and his version of the Guess Who. I happened upon him side stage and told him how much this early music meant to me. He said they still did a "super long version" of Shakin' All Over.
