Hello Olivia and listeners. Things got real weird over here today. My workplace closed its doors for at least a month, I'm trying to set up stuff to work from home (after carrying a computer in subway and bus)

Hello everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Rich in Washington:

I always felt that GPO's voice in the 80s and 90s sort of overlapped Burroughs in terms of being a advocate of voluntary social mutation, evolution. I feel sort of the same about the former's passing as I did about the latter. Both were sort of guiding forces for me in a lot of ways.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm zopa:

Will do. I admit, I'm a little freaked. I'm in the risk age group (53), and had my spleen partially removed when I was younger due to cancer.

The fatalist in me says it's too late. The optimist in me say NOT TODAY VIRUS!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm efd:

Heya Olivia and preppers, hoarders, and those in hiding. Life is fairly normal here in Sacramento; I'll do some research on the number of open bars and get back to you.

Tail end of the Corning era, too.

288 Lark & Chateau Lounge, then QE2. I saw Yo La Tengo and the Feelies at QE2 when they were both pretty much local bands (local to the Hudson Valley). And all the great local Albany bands.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm zopa:

Yeah. It was a unique time, music-wise, in Albany back then. Good punk scence as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm Rich in Washington:

Ugh. Last year around this time I actually priced bulk surgical masks for a gag promo thing (Cratedigger's Lung, get it?) but now I can't even imagine...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm olivia:

hey again to all the folks coming in! I'm a little bit late on all the conversations and a little bit in a fog today. but appreciate seeing your comments xx
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Phillippe Bastille:

@JFFP Not sure if they were there for guns or ammo. I did not have a lot of competition for my earthworms and frozen squid. My son does target shooting and after I told him what I saw he went to the on-line store where he gets his ammo to see if they've had a run and it was all sold out. So, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, bullets, milk, eggs seems to be the order of the purchasing operation.
  3:32pm DJ Pat K:

Oh yeah... this is the stuff...

Avatar 3:34pm TDK60:

Play some foggy music or some de-foggin' music; either way, it's ok..
  3:35pm JakeGould:

FWIW to anyone who is freaked, the past few days I have been urban exploring places that should be busy that are not in NYC and while doing it I felt completely fine, but the second I got a block away from home complete panic attack response in me.

That old adage you can’t sprint a marathon? Spread the panic out if you can and chill in any way if you can. Deep breaths and walks around that block. That is honestly allowed in NYC for now. Sunny outside.

And my super didn’t lock my roof access so I get my sun by going up there when I don”t want to go downstairs.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Phillippe Bastille:

@JFFP I'm not freaked about it or anything, but the guy inside me with the useless sociology degree can't help but marvel at the way certain, um, "interest groups" react in times of stress. Our interest group's reaction here? Spend even MORE time listening to WFMU and typing on the comments board. Love you guys!
  3:42pm JakeGould:

Yeah, when people say “Don’t go out!” in cities it seems that people are using the bar/partying “Go out…” instead of the literal, “Get out of your apartment/home…” go out.

Mental health is massively important nowadays. And Moog and Korg just made a few paid synth apps free specifically due to cooped up stress. pitchfork.com...

  3:44pm John from Florham park:

@PB if it was not for the accu chat and the music on this station I would be freaking out now and just glued to the news 24 7
  3:45pm JakeGould:

@PhillippeBastille: Do you notice people leaning in towards authoritarianism and fascism now? Because honestly I am now learning some people I know would gladly have soldiers on the streets right now.

  3:50pm John from Florham park:

@KFHP did someone really do that
  3:51pm JakeGould:

@JohnfromFlorhamPark: I wouldn’t be shocked if the jerks in power right now did that. A lot of what is happening right now is directly connected to lack of a social care system in this country an Drumpf and Pence literally not caring. Under competent leadership, we would not be in this bad of a situation where there is money for the “Space Force” but cuts to medical and other research.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Phillippe Bastille:

@JakeGould not seeing much here. I live in a pretty laid-back neighborhood outside of Annapolis, which is a fairly liberal area. Some of my neighbors are in the defense and intelligence community (the Naval Academy and NSA are close by and keep a lot of people paid), but I've never really even gotten much of a conservative vibe from them. Across the bridge from us on MD's Eastern Shore, though, I'm sure there's a person or two lacin' up the boots.

Good write up on the bandcamp for this one...
"n ‘STRESS II’, his first Haunter release, London-based producer
D. Shan creates a meme-like re-imagination of free improvisation through the lens of sample manipulation, drifting from bewildered percussion hits to utter tonal deflagration.

This renders the tape a peculiar soup of electronic dirt in which vocal clippings of circlejerk online discourse and glitch ridden discord mirror a headspace filled with hundreds of conflicting thoughts. Inspiration and sound sources re-trace the producer’s personal history, while delving into low-grade internet folklore and transglobal dance music.

The chaos generated by such a radical approach is but a folk song for the contemporary
experience, a set of angular emotional vectors sublimated into borderline spiritual energy."

Hoarrding in Madrid -Sent this today during W&B:
Things here have sort of normalized in the supermarkets. No more TP frenzy???
Products come and go so it is just necessary to go from one place to
another looking for small things: lemons or spinach or onions ..
In one shop one day, then none, but in a different shop or the
next day. Only issue - no rice for a week. I still have 1/2K so ok.
Fresh milk and OJ, every day - every other day...Still shopping
in the old MKT for potatoes, fruit, veg...
I hope it does not come to actual shortages because people are sick!!!

The DJ on WKCR (Columbia University radio station) just mentioned that the station might be shut down temporarily along the the rest of the university. I hope that does not happen, but if so it would leave WFMU as the last standing radio station of any value in the NY/NJ area (at least as far as I'm concerned). You and the rest of the DJs at WKCR are a great social benefit in these troubled times.

@Handy Looking at anything I can get from what's left of the pier. When it collapsed my bait trap got dislodged. We had a super low tide a few days ago and I saw the top of the trap sticking out of the water so I raked it in. Some mud crabs and grass shrimp are in there. There were some small fry of unidentifiable heritage, but the cool things were two bluegill that have literally grown up inside the trap. They're about 4 inches long, and there's no way they can get through the trap opening. They seem well-fed and pretty content. They probably avoided the Great Bufflehead Buffet by being protected by the trap. They owe me, is how I look at it.

If you care about small businesses — even the the local laundry and stuff that is honestly not “hip” — they will need help to not get kicked to the curb for greed.
