remember that chat we had about songs that gave a preview of adulthood? here's one that let me know adulthood could be nasty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Linda Lee - I'm not entirely sure why he felt the need to bother her, to be honest. "Remember how stinking poor you used to be? Cool. I'm off now. Bye!"
Avatar 5:10pm
Mr Fab:

I know nothing about Wes Anderson films. Are they ‘60s period pieces?
Avatar 5:10pm
Linda Lee:

haha! exactly! very hung up
Avatar 5:10pm
Photocopy Cha Cha:

@5:05 DJ GeorgyGirl: it is one of those "where were you when you..." questions, hearing Forever Changes for the first time. I remember somehow my first listen - actually 26 years ago, on my 18th birthday. Today (well, yesterday) I became 26 years older from that magical day. And yes, I still have that disc (cd, blah) as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - some are period pieces, but some are set in the present day, although they all *look* like period pieces.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm

Thanks, you fine people, my birthday was indeed already yesterday as it is already 31. March here.
Avatar 5:14pm
Linda Lee:

this is really the band i love. young, hip, creative & sexy
Avatar 5:14pm

This is indeed a good Stones track, and for some reason I prefer Brian Jones era (I include even Let It Bleed into that, even if he is only faintly heard on one track)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Photocopy - you're in the super future! :-)
Avatar 5:15pm

@Linda Lee - I'd quite like to see an unplugged Stones show :-)
Avatar 5:16pm

actually Brian & Anita gave them culture. she taught them about music!

Avatar 5:16pm
Photocopy Cha Cha:

@5:14 DJ GeorgyGirl: here's hoping the future would become super...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Anita Pallenberg knew EVERYONE, especially the aristos. She really was such a catalyst.
  5:17pm
Martinibomb:

Happy Birthday PCC! When I was out on a walk today some kids were stuck in their house blasting a disco funk version of Happy Birthday song and just groovin in the window on their couch. Hilarous
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yep - an unplugged gig now :-) Pared down blues. I think that would be fab.
Avatar 5:17pm
Photocopy Cha Cha:

What I actually don't like how Jagger & Richards downplay Brian Jones' involvement with say, Beggar's Banquet - as if he was absent from that album. He is on 7 out of 10 tracks actually.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

@5:17 Martinibomb: thanks MB, I like to imagine they were throwing a distant party for me ;)

Anita was fabulous. yes.
as for the band dynamic.. without Brian there would be no Stones at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Oh absolutely - Brian was the central core.
Avatar 5:20pm
Linda Lee:

he gave them depth ~ and an edge.

I am in a minority here: no matter how interested in cinema I am, I have yet to see a Wes Anderson movie. Unbelievable but true. Shame on me.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm

Harold and Maude - my favourite film of all time :-)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Vince Guaraldi via Peanuts is childhood personified for me
Avatar 5:42pm
Photocopy Cha Cha:

@5:37 Linda Lee: a childhood home without books does not matter, you say you have been catching up ever since and you do seem intelligent. Also, my childhood home had plenty of books and yet I am one of the slowest readers. I probably have read the least novels in the world.
  5:42pm
allanToronto:

ON the literary tip, for you bibliophiles out there, Wes Anderson said the whole feel of Budapest Hotel was lifted from the writings of Stefan Zweig...and Linda Lee, books are the portals to the universe. They're there for everyone to beg, borrow, or steal. Never too late.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@allanToronto - another that's now on my To Read list after watching the film :-)
Avatar 5:43pm

thank you. i do try. :-)
wow, haven't heard this one is aeons!
Avatar 5:44pm
Photocopy Cha Cha:

@5:42 DJ GeorgyGirl: listening to Doors, Hendrix etc. in the library while trying to read Peanuts in english did prevent me from going crazy as a 8-year old. And oh, the joy when they showed the Peanuts movies on TV.
Avatar 5:45pm
Linda Lee:

GG, you remind me that Peanuts were just everything in the mid 60s! sweatshirts, t shirts, lunch boxes, posters..
i had a t shirt i refused to remove.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I always imagine that Wes Anderson smells somewhere between slight mustiness and a rather splendid, old-fashioned cologne.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm

Peanuts were my escape too :-)

The trailer for the upcoming Wes Anderson movie looks spectacular ... I can fully understand/respect if other people find his movies pretentious and style over substance, but not me ... love them

I can't remember which film featured this, but it sure is nice to hear it. Poor Nick. The world was too much with him.

Nick Drake was definitely someone who was too sensitive for this world, poor chap.

but the style is *meant* to be the thing, isn't it?

I know several people who have worked for Wes and my understanding is he mostly directs from a laptop at a cafe.
Avatar 6:05pm

GG yes ~ & the amazing thing is that it's all there, in his voice.
Avatar 6:05pm

His films are like looking at a beautiful painting that moves with a story.
Avatar 6:05pm

@Lina Lee: Style alone without story/soul wouldn't lack something important, IMO, but IMO Wes Anderson movies serve both
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm

@MB - somehow that doesn't surprise me :-)

I mean, if you're gonna break a ten year silence, then a 17 minute song is a pretty good way to do it!

interesting that he's looking back at that watershed. as it was, for the US. our last functional president, perhaps

I heard about it - turns out to be his longest (studio) recorded song ever
Avatar 6:25pm

I passed that song along to a friend who is both a JFK assassin researcher and a Dylan fanatic who is in the hospital getting part of his foot amputated. He was best man at my wedding. He was amazed.

He was also under observation for COVID, but it turned out to just be pneumonia. Weird sort of relief.

I think I have another recording of this Francoise Hardy track with less reverb on it.
Avatar 6:28pm

have to admit that I have my problems with what is left from Bob's voice as it really isn't much more than croaking anymore (IMO), but he's a class of his own, that's for sure!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm

@zivilars - I had him down in the general list that I pull from whenever I do a show but I couldn't find any that fitted the general feel of the show, sadly. :-( Which was annoying because I do love his songs.
Avatar 6:40pm
zivilars:

@GG: No worries, the mix is great and you never can fit everything into it ... Great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm

I think because his songs were made specifically for the film rather than everything else, which was curated.
Avatar 6:41pm

@GG: That's a good argument, I can fully understand that
