Compared to Mel Torme the Manfred Mann version of My Little Red Book sounds almost as rough as the LOVE version. Smoooooth indeed, mr. Torme.

Avatar 5:23pm
Linda Lee:

actually saw 'the graduate' again fairly recently. amazing film. she was very hot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@StringOFperils - mainstream light comedy films, usually with middle aged TV stars, and sometimes a generation gap, and very light grooviness and Mod overtones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm
Rich in Washington:

I remember an online station that I was doing a show on bitd used to throw these big turntable.fm parties with all the participating DJs and it would be played over the stream. The guy that ran it 'this is going to be the FUTURE of radio!' and then it quickly fizzled out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I confess that I've never seen The Graduate all the way through ... I need to rectify that!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - I think it must have been a US thing. Not ringing any bells here!

The band Fanny. ;-)
Avatar 6:01pm
Linda Lee:

"“One of the most important female bands in American rock has been buried without a trace. And that is Fanny. They were one of the finest fucking rock bands of their time, in about 1973. They were extraordinary: They wrote everything, they played like motherfuckers, they were just colossal and wonderful, and nobody’s ever mentioned them. They’re as important as anybody else who’s ever been, ever; it just wasn’t their time. Revivify Fanny. And I will feel that my work is done.”

@6:01 Linda Lee: those Bowie's words about Fanny could also be used when talking about The Ace Of Cups. A pity they made no studio recordings then, but the 2003 collection of live recordings is good stuff and indeed a miracle those recordings even exist let alone in such good quality.
Avatar 6:12pm

@6:12 Linda Lee: the said Ace Of Cups live recording retrospective "It's Bad for You But Buy It" is on Spotify, really worth checking. And yes, just like GeorgyGirl quoted the L7 doc, they were ahead of their time and behind the rent (I guess there was a song about the latter problem). Also there is contemporary video (from a 1968 tv performance): www.youtube.com...

All sorted now - no Nico in the description :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm

@6:33 StringOFperils: I am a proud owner of a Pennies From Heaven 3-lp set (bought from Snooper's Paradise, Brighton for £3). But almost any of his series has good use of music, especially the Singing Detective. Also they are very disturbing at times, when considering he employed autobiographical elements in many of his works.

@6:39 DJ GeorgyGirl: I almost missed my flight because of the said 2016 visit there. Now where in Snoopers was this place I found the said Pennies From Heaven 3-lp from, tell me ;) I miss that place :(

@6:40 Linda Lee: yes just like DJ GeorgyGirl said @6:41, it is a wonderful place, I have actually found more records from there than from the Brighton record shops at the time - and they were not too bad either; I found Pentangle & Damned original pressings for £9 (which is impossible nowadays) in 2013 from a record shop the name of which escapes me now (and as a bonus I spotted Nick Cave having a Saturday afternoon stroll)

@6:49 DJ GeorgyGirl: no the record shop was not Borderline, I went there only in 2016, in 2013 I went to another place, can not even find it with Google maps now. I remember a homeless man sitting on a bargain record crate outside the shop and the owner being OK with it, asking "hi, what's the word on the streets?" (the said homeless man was probably well known and liked by the staff).
