Sun. Dec 22nd, 3pm - 5pm:
The Unsolicited Return of the Winter Soul-stice (fill-in for Paul Bruno)
(More info...)
You can't stop the seasons from turning, and you evidently also can't stop an old dog from performing his one old trick. Answering the teeming clamor of one New York Times food columnist
, Gaylord Fields is returning to WFMU's airwaves for a one-off Winter Soul-stice program. In his time away he's learned nothing, so the format will remain the same: two hours of original 1960s soul 45s, and the abuse of an expensive reverb machine for the sake of corny vocal effects.
UM, I don't know who Fanny Dooley is. So it's probably not me!
8:27pm
sufferwords:
FMU like a shortwave after the big one - the rebel force spread out over a vast space - keeping tight with the rest of the survivors- let’s all stay that way - peace
Gaylord: Every time anyone refers to my show or my taste in music as "eclectic," I scowl at them, and if they deserve it, I try to explain the difference. And you know I'm very good at scowling. So, amen to what you wrote at 8:27!
8:28pm

that is not the Jeremy I'm with Gaylord... Hi to you Jeremy...nice to meet you...
Gaylord, If this is the end of life as we knew it, It's not that bad. Wait! it's a living nightmare, what am I thinking? Oh yeah, is there any coffee still in the pot?
I'm not familiar with this Wyatt track, so at first I thought Gaylord was having fun with the turntables. Not that playing a record in the correct direction ISN'T fun, of course...
CC, you would have loved this: Back in he mid '70's a friends dad had a Ford Fairlane with a CB whip mounted on the roof, a microphone mounted on the dash and a reverb cut out switch that turned the car into a rolling echo chamber. It served no purpose except to create the effect that you were on The Outer Limits just sitting in the driveway listening to the AM radio.
someone i know was named after the doctor that delivered him.
it wasn't the parents' choice; it was the egomaniacal doctor who said he'd deliver the baby in some situation, like on a cruise ship or something; but they must name the baby after him.
so he's an irish-french (?) guy named Anthony.

Franco your messages are always too long and I can't read them all on this app can you finish that part about the Reverb mounted on something???

Jeremy:
This is gorgeous. Is that Air on a G string it's quoting?
When I asked my mom how she chose my name, if it was for someone she liked, or Peter Pan, or whatever, she said, "I just liked the name." She also revealed that my dad wanted to call me Bunny because I came home from the hospital on Easter Sunday. Bunny is a weird name for a Jew, but I'm sure I woulda been fine.
my parents had planned to name me Douglas if i was male, which i am. when i was born they looked at me and both thought i didn't look like a Douglas, so i'm not.
Evidently, JM Barrie made up the name Wendy as a tribute to a childhood pal who died very young. She spoke with a lisp, and as such, referred to him as her "fwendy."
OMG, Gaylord! I love that! I knew Barrie invented my name, but I didn't know the rest of the story. That's freakin' adorable and also a little sad about the young friend's death.
People can totally refer to me as their "F'wendy."
9:40pm
Jeremy:
Ah yes! I caught Sandy Dedrick singing "Love Your" for the Light in the Attic streaming concert the other night. Such a beautiful voice, really comforting.
Gaylord, your show is cheering me up so much tonight, as is the conversation here on the playlist. Thank you for being such an excellent DJ/party host.
Okay! That's all I needed, Jeremy. I had this other friend in junior high who was an honest to goodness string bean Okie. His dad who was a real red neck cracker drove an International Scout with a PA speaker under the hood. My friend would get in the scout, get on the microphone and start with all this "Hey you Kids! Stop that messing around or I'm gonna beat your ass!" It was real funny, until his dad came out of the house and started hollering for real.
