I have that Pop Group 7"! I love it. I bought the album shortly there after. It never got much play, so it's in really good shape. I recently found out it's worth about a billion dollars, which is good, because I'm running out of money.

Avatar 1:46pm

Hey, Yvang! The famous ones forced them to change their name, even though the Bolton boys came first.

fred:

I think your first instinct was right. Then again, I only saw them once, and that was they reunion in 2011
Avatar 1:59pm
Tony Coulter:

Club Moral, you mean? Ah, thanks for the confirmation! I guess I just sort of instinctively gave "Moral" a (semi) French pronunciation. Their name sounds better that way....
Avatar 2:01pm
Tony Coulter:

I've never seen them live....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm
Franco Twinkie:

Tony, this is a thing I am picking up on lately: Lots of music that gate keepers (Not you!) would never allow to sully their sets are now getting free range on WFMU. Case in point, Steely Dan and The James Gang would really push some people over the edge, and their loud dismissal had the effect of cowering any objective reconsideration. Is it the virus that makes people let down their guard and ignore censure? If so,that's a good thing, right?
Avatar 2:13pm
Listening Out There:

@Franco Twinkie: Might be a case of what some call "comfort music"...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm
Doug Schulkind:

Toe-knee!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm
fred:

@Franco: Maybe in the ear of the hearer also, a playlist search shows 354 playlists featuring Steely Dan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm
Franco Twinkie:

Yes, the world is a very irritating place right now(I could tell you about my trip downtown Los Angeles yesterday, but on second thought,no) We all need comfort,in buckets.
Avatar 2:21pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Franco T: You could definitely be right -- and that *would* be a good thing. I think L.O.T. is on to something, RE: comfort music. Plus, excessive irony and cooler-than-thou-ness may feel a bit inappropriate these days.

As for myself, I've always enjoyed mixing and matching all kinds of different things, including the famous and the obscure, the "normal" and the weird, and the hip and unhip ... all while trying to make some kind of sense, of course.

Cmurtha:

I always felt that most DJ's on WFMU had a fairly even hand when it came to what they played. I have not been listening long enough I suppose to have a pulse on every DJ, but the only DJs I can think of who are a bit higher-than-thou when it comes to music don't really articulate that often, or do so in jest. Or, like Ken do it in a very try-hard way that I always assumed was a bit of some kind. I have noticed on the main stream though an opening up of what people are paying on various shows though which is lovely.
