@Mr. Nobody news just came out. I've replaced watching sports I can't play for watching a stock market I can't afford to invest in and the market dropped like 250 points in the first 15 minutes after they announced it.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:01pm

so much for bill gates's plan to inject us all with tracking chips!
  1:02pm

Lol the real news must have been the chips aren't ready
  1:02pm
Mr Nobody:

I mean everything is fake news right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm

We can still inject our own chips, right?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:03pm

Oh and I am greatly amused how this version of Brain Damage is so happy sounding.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:06pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

That PF cover was perfect, i had to seek the whole album and share it with my PF fan girlfriend. Yeah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm
ParUbi:

Most enjoyable forms of brain damage should be avoided, but this one works for me too!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:10pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

On a YT post of the whole Chillout album, it says "Brain Damage" was by Argentina Chill Out Social Club, who seems to have covered Michael Jackson, Sting and the Beatles as well.

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:15pm

Well, that took entirely too long. But otherwise was as low-stress a supply outing as we have had. Hope our luck holds for bank and liquor store later!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:15pm
Handy Haversack:

Oh, man, I missed Julian Cope!!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:16pm
Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

A small price to pay for your victory, Handy!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:17pm
Julie:

whatcha getting at the liquor store?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:19pm
Handy Haversack:

We need vermouth (sweet and dry), Cynar, Campari, a top up on wine, and probably whisky. And I guess if they have any comfort or self-control, we'll price it.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:19pm
Julie:

@Andrew there was also an easy listening type grunge album. I have that one somewhere
Avatar 1:23pm

When we're out of vermouth, we refill it from the kitchen tap. Noboby seems to notice.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm
StringOFperils:

@ βrian. Your tap water sounds fantastic !
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:25pm
Handy Haversack:

Well, sure, if you're lucky enough to have municipal vermouth, @βrian. New York's mains are just too old to convert.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:25pm
Phillippe Bastille:

You guys need to come over, I have a cabinet full of liquor I don't drink anymore. Including vermouth.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:26pm

How far can you throw, Phillippe?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:26pm

The album's title supposedly comes from Cambridge slang for sex, commonly used by Pink Floyd friend and occasional roadie, Iain "Emo" Moore, who would say, "I'm going back to the house for some ummagumma". According to Moore, he made up the term himself.--Wikipedia

@2:09 Handy Haversack: I am OK, some cabin fever maybe - unlike some foolhardy Finns who still visit each other, I have not seen anyone for a month! Then again, this also means a month stone cold sober - and I needed that. How are things on your end Handy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm

hi Marie! Thanks!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:16pm
Handy Haversack:

Well, we are NOT sober, PCCha, but also a little stiry crazy. We had a supermarket run earlier and need to hit the bank and liquor store later -- and errand day.

We are probably drinking a wee drop too much, but I'm going to forgive us for a while!

Otherwise, despite the occasional tantrum as we wrestle with tech, we're doing OK at the Haversackery. The cats are satisfied and asprawl. The domestication of the dog proceeds apace.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm

i miss the March 40s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm

Hey Julie sorry to bother you with a dumb question, but have you done some changes to your computer or something? The previous home shows you did had some light clicks and pops (not loud but you could hear it with good headphones). And now they are gone completely. (I have got this old windows laptop and the same problem there which never has been solved)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm

I was up last night comparing two different streaming softwares, of course the one I didn't pay for seems to be click free.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:19pm

it was not a playback issue but in fact a streaming one, which is why I didn't ever hear them until I listened to the archive.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm
Photocopy Cha Cha:

@2:16 Handy Haversack: like I said somewhere else around wfmu, no booze home deliveries here in Finland unless you are a business owner. Hence, sobriety, as a supermarket run would be a risk - I was scared shitless going to a nurse/doctor twice during the last 2 weeks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm
StringOFperils:

@spodiodi..Well, Spod, it promises to be a year of pigs and numbers. Buckle up.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:21pm
Julie:

pigs with abacuses?
Avatar 2:22pm
βrian:

Cats asprawl and arms akimbo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm
StringOFperils:

Someone should get that abacus looked at.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:22pm
Julie:

ahhh that piano work

Mx Granny:

my calendar seems suddenly MORE crammed with all of the distant events i didn't consider now going online at the same time
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:23pm
Handy Haversack:

Now there is just appointment listening -- but lots of it!

(I have a 3 o'clock with Fabio.)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:23pm
Julie:

Granny, too true! Also Robyn Hitchcock's doing another Beatles show tomorrow 3pm Eastern time so evening perfect for Europe. I only caught a bit of yesterday's.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:24pm
Julie:

FABIO WILL SEE YOU NOW
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:24pm

Eep!

I guess from June onwards public events of less than 500 people will be permitted here in Finland - I wonder if this is a little too early. I mean 500+ people in a concert hall might be safer than 100 people crammed into what they call a "toilet venue".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm
spodiodi:

StringO, i think that's probably good advice. thank you *click* i hope these pigs are as sweet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm

btw, nice new av -- the last one was hard to follow

@dean oh yes! whoever thought those tapes were a good idea.. fade out the song, restart it next track. ridiculous.

oh, I love Andrea Parker, Julie! I listened to her album Kiss My Arp so much when it go released
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm
Photocopy Cha Cha:

That Kate Bush song reminded me - I don't remember why I missed it, but still a bit miffed about not catching The Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices feat. Lisa Gerrard last October. It was apparently raaather good.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:40pm
Julie:

hiya Sylvia! I haven't heard much of her, I need to check out that one too
  2:40pm
Dean:

I have fond memories of 8-tracks. A weird early David Bowie, a Genesis compilation, and most importantly, the first time I heard Yes's Close to the Edge was off an 8-track I borrowed from a neighbor. But yeah, other than sentimental value, they were a pretty clunky medium.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:41pm
Michael 98145:

i'm so old i actually had an 8-trk player stolen out of my car ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
Photocopy Cha Cha:

@2:40 Dean: they never came here to Finland. Cassettes were the thing here.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
Julie:

yeah mom's car had an 8-track player when I was little. She'd let me pick, it was usually between Tom Jones and Vicki Carr.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:42pm
Julie:

wow not at all? I feel like they were around a long time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm
Photocopy Cha Cha:

@2:42 Julie: I guess they were a very American thing. Like I once wrote on Larry's show, Bruce Springsteen was among the last releases (the 1985 live set, only available from a record club), perfect car music - and of course I have no first hand experience, just have read about it.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:46pm
Julie:

8-track seems like it was invented just so you could play them in the car
  2:46pm
Dean:

My player was in one of those cheesy consoles with a tuner and a turntable atop a bookcase in my bedroom. Shoot, you could find budget priced 8-tracks and LPs at the supermarket!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:46pm
Julie:

and there was a very satisfying feeling when that 8-track clicked into place
  2:47pm
Funky16Corners:

I like this cut. Has a little bit of a Moody Blues thing going on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm
StringOFperils:

Plus changing records in the front seat was always such a pain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm

blew my mind as a teen to learn there actually were factory-option record player options in cars
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:49pm

That's why you'd have the 5-LP changer in the trunk, StringOFp.

Isn't there a scene or two in the old Bond films, where there's a little open-reel tape machine inside the dashboard of the Aston-Martin? So ahead of the curve. A reel to reel in the car.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:51pm
Julie:

can you imagine the needle jumps when you hit a bump in the road.. yikes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm

For a while, the factory-installed radios had 8-track players and CB radios built in. Or you had to pick one or the other?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm

my first Car Discman had a big floating mechanism to prevent skips (poorly), before they added 3 little ball bearings as a standard, changing the game forever. amazing. i love elegant solutions

Haha, that reminds me of an old 70s TV commercial for some luxury car where they have a jeweler cutting a diamond on the backseat to demonstrate how smooth the ride was
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm

Hah, Peter Gabriel had a rather cool reversed mohawk in that Mick Rock documentary (I was tempted to write Mick Rock Doc)
