Hi Sam and horse party!
  10:06pm
Dean:

First time I heard LLDOB was in a Wherehouse in LA County. The song that grabbed me was "The Waiting Room."
  10:08pm
Dean:

It's a toss-up for me. Either Lamb or Selling.

Hello. I was out of the chamber for a moment. (hope no prog police lurking...)

I liked Foxtrot the most, I think.

WR:

Oil pump and a gravestone with what looks like Hebrew writing. Curious but not making any connections.
  10:10pm
Dean:

Oh, yeah, Foxtrot. Okay, a toss-up with a three-sided coin.

I blew that photo up, the middle gravestone is English. Fellow named Cecil Costroma Henry. Christian. US Navy? WWII.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm
Sam Segal:

@Dean, yeah Foxtrot, Selling, and Lamb are probably my three favorite Genesis records as well.
Avatar 10:20pm

Another pumpjack evening to everyone, Sam, The Horseless
  10:20pm
Dean:

I'm also fond of "Twilight Alehouse" and a standby bootleg, As Though Emerald City from the Shrine shows. Buddy of mine went to one, but confessed that he fell asleep.
Avatar 10:20pm
TDK60:

Yeah those are great albums to curl up with Sam, by the fire, or air conditioner
  10:21pm
Dean:

Used to play Selling at least once daily when I was working in a record store around '78.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm

@Fleep, I found a cache of photos from the National Archives organized around the theme of "Oil." catalog.archives.gov...

Sam, nice find. When you run out of pumpjacks you can move on to sumps.

didn't quite hear what you said about Jim O'Rourke but i only know him by 2 collaborations with Oren Ambarchi, which i love and are part of most nights' bedtime playlists.

TDK60. You are right, not Hebrew.
Avatar 10:31pm

O'Rourke is a real musical Renaissance sort, right? Saw him play with Sonic Youth once.

Sam Segal:

Love the Horse Lords, NGH! Their new record is amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm
Sam Segal:

@Coel: Everything I am playing tonight is either from an album or artist Jim O'Rourke digs, according to his interviews. I was inspired by this great, lengthy interview with him by Joshua Minsoo Kim in Tone Glow: toneglow.substack.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm
coelacanth∅:

is a horse lord someone that owns lots of horses or a horse that owns lots of ...something?
Avatar 10:35pm
TDK60:

That Nesmith track reminds me of Buffalo Springfield.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm
coelacanth∅:

oh okay Sam.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
Sam Segal:

O'Rourke is definitely a jack of all trades. His singer songwriter records for Drag City are masterpieces of creative pop music, he's produced a number of classic indie rock records, and his experimental electro acoustic music is brilliant. He's also a hell of a guitarist.
Avatar 10:40pm
Hams:

watching those public tv bits of o'rourke in japan are pretty neat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm
ParUbi:

That interview! Yes! Good idea for a show. Wish someone gave me that book when I was a kid
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm
Sam Segal:

He talks about one of those videos in the interview, Hams! The story of how he ended up singing "Enka" is pretty great, although he seems upset that it ended up on YouTube.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
Sam Segal:

@ParUbi, it definitely seems like Jim had pretty precocious taste growing up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm

Garfunkel's records are not bad at all. I myself have never enjoyed Jim O'Rourke. Kinda boring.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm
Sam Segal:

Could be, Hams! I think O'Rourke has been a longtime proponent of Robert Ashley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm

Thank you for validating my "Okie Dokie" talk, Chresti.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm

Wow, and Derek Bailey record I don't have!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24pm

One of my favorite Derek Bailey recordings. He's always best solo or duo for me.
  11:26pm
Dean:

I can't *begin* to sort Derek Bailey recordings. Perversely, I really love Sign of Four.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm
Sam Segal:

Just Googled Sign of Four. Had no idea Derek Bailey recorded with Pat Metheny. I must hear this.
  11:29pm

Yes, you must.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31pm

Does sound interesting-Part Metheny is game to try anything.

doctorjazz:

Denny, nice!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:41pm
WR:

I was taking the garbage out with the stream playing on my phone in my pocket. Did you just say that when O'Rourke was a child that mean drunk Denny was his baby sitter? Or something to that effect?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm
Sam Segal:

Haha no no not at all. Just that his parents were Irish immigrants and he used to visit Ireland and England a lot when he was a kid, so maybe that is how he got into Sandy Denny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm
Franco Twinkie:

Nice thoughtful wrap-up. Thank you Sam.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm

Mitterer is an *insanely* prolific composer. His Radio Fractals record on Hat is among my top ten faves. His opera Massacre has to be heard to be believed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm

Thanks Sam. good night everyone!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:02am

Thanks Dean for encouraging more Mitterer material. Thank you Sam for carrying us this far.
