Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm Richard S:

Phyrst! Hello!
  7:01pm penelope:

hello fries
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm Carmichael:

Kinda doo wop, but not really.
Avatar 7:02pm Dan Bodah:

Absolute Sardinia -- hello all!
Avatar 7:03pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Dig it.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm Webhamster Henry:

We all look like good cabbages tonight.
Avatar 7:08pm Dan Bodah:

Sauerkraut-making music??
Avatar 7:08pm northguineahills:

only fried sardines, βrian.
  7:13pm ?:

Ahoy Friars! Tom from BK here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm ultradamno:

Isn't cabbage an insult in some place. Like in The Undertones' My Perfect Cousin ("He thinks that I'm a cabbage/'Cause I hate University Challenge")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm mariano:

Hey Dan, Scott, folks.
  7:15pm Peter from Dover NJ:

Long time listener, first time commenter. Love your program, Dan.
Avatar 7:16pm βrian:

I've mentioned elsewhere on the playlists, but I became a father today (via Zoom, yo!)

I feel like I should change my handle to Pater Pandemicus, or some such.
Avatar 7:17pm βrian:

(This on day 63 of the Great Isolation.)
  7:18pm JakeGould:

@Dan: Last night I found this interview with Kraftwerk’s Ralf Hutter that addressed the “Krautrock” tag: “This name was later introduced by people who maybe like this music, but it’s an insult, and it’s also nonsense because we don’t eat sauerkraut.” www.uncut.co.uk...
Avatar 7:18pm Dan Bodah:

@BRian, congratulations!!
Avatar 7:22pm βrian:

Thanks, @DB. My new daughter keeps looking at my screen to see what's playing. She's equally perplexed and fascinated.
Avatar 7:22pm Dan Bodah:

@Peter, all, thanks for checking in. @Jake, my German friends all make fun of themselves as krauts. And they call the US "Amiland" which they think is insulting/mocking rather than cutesy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Richard S:

Speaking of The Great Isolation, there's a fun essay over at the Washington Post. Review your "Shelter In Place" quarters as if they were a resort hotel...
Avatar 7:22pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Wow βrian !!!
  7:23pm penelope:

wow! congratulations βrian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm ultradamno:

Zappi from Faust "It was joke that. During the war, the Germans were called "the krauts" as they used to eat "Sauerkraut." That is why we called a title of ours "Krautrock." Later, the British music industry established a new genre for german music, called "Krautrock." furious.com...
  7:25pm DJ Purple Haze:

hello friers.
  7:26pm JakeGould:

Fair enough on the Krautrock; still kinda insulting in a way. But whatever!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm Webhamster Henry:

I have this same Monk cassette!
Avatar 7:26pm βrian:

We used to banish our father to the garage when he cooked sauerkraut dishes. Eventually, we came to love it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Congrats on your growing family, βrian. I hope no one hacked your Zoom meeting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm ultradamno:

Oh, yeah. As a genre designation it's entirely demeaning.
Avatar 7:28pm northguineahills:

lucky you Henry!
Avatar 7:28pm βrian:

A 6.5-year-old daugher, to be precise. But she's our baby, and she's listening!
Avatar 7:29pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& Julian Cope said his wife banished him from using the term 'Krautrock' on one floor of the house...

"Gettin' the runs! Gettin' the runs!"
  7:30pm penelope:

βrian when do you get to meet the fresh one??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Carmichael:

Congratulations, Brian! Hope Mrs Brian is doing ok too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm Travisano66:

I try to be open-minded, but when I hear some of these pieces I get fantasies about smacking the singers silly! But they're artists. Maybe they like evoking all sorts of emotions.
Avatar 7:31pm βrian:

@Carmichael: She was hoisting flagstones from the front garden today. A force of nature, that woman!
Avatar 7:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

One thing about Voice - it's intimate. Being in someone's mouth practically...very personal...
Avatar 7:33pm Smurph:

Was that the same song as Sainkho Namtchylak. Dance Of Eagle or am I just imagining?
Avatar 7:34pm βrian:

To be clear, this was the final adoption hearing via Zoom. Our daughter even participated, answering a few questions from the judge.
  7:34pm penelope:

ohhhhh that make a lot more sense.
Avatar 7:34pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 7:35pm Dan Bodah:

@Travisano, much of the singing on Vocal Fry has been banned at times. For instance, in parts of the Soviet era Tuvan throatsinging was forbidden or shunned. Many shamans have been killed over the centuries. Minority languages have often been banned, etc...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Has she picked out her DJ name yet, βrian?
Avatar 7:37pm βrian:

"It sounds like Sponge Bob's starting ..."
(I don't know what she means.)

Here's a good blog to read about marginalization of Russian ethnic minorities like the Mari, more or less the last remaining pagans. mariuveren.wordpress.com...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm Devin B.:

Avatar 7:47pm Smurph:

I heard Sainkho Namtchylak here on this program back in July, and wrote my self a note and listened to it a bunch since then. Nice show today, as always!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm Handy Haversack:

I was cooking and eating and didn't have a chance to say hi, but the show sounded great. Thanks, Dan!

Best wishes to Bill W., too!

And many congratulations, βrian!
