Happy Memorial Day to friends across the pond and Happy Bank Holiday over here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am Irene Trudel:

Hi Sean! Thanks for the Holiday wishes.Hope everyone can enjoy it in their own way.

Hello, hola, cheers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Irene Trudel:

Welcome james and TDK60!
Avatar 12:05pm Really Lisa:

Hello all :) New to comments here, Irene, but have listened to your shows in archives; always delightful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Doug Schulkind:

Hello Irene and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Lisa! This is a very welcoming comments community. And 'hi' to you, Doug!
Avatar 12:10pm Sean in Bristol UK:

This is a beautiful track, thank you Irene
Avatar 12:12pm Really Lisa:

This is nice! Recognized James Yorkston's voice right away, from a few singles which got airplay in the US tri-state area at least a decade ago.
Avatar 12:13pm gongoleer:

Hello Irene and the world. Good Memorial Day to you. Let's be as happy as can be and remember all those, military and first responders, who have and are fighting for our safety and freedoms. Thank you from Vermont, for the soothing sounds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm melinda:

Hi friends!
Avatar 12:16pm uuee:

Good afternoon Irene and friends, from the grey and chilly NJ shore. Your show is sure to brighten up the day!
Avatar 12:16pm Brian in UK:

Hello Irene, still cannot believe that you are on at a time that I can listen live. Some of the magic is lost on archives because you cannot help but see what is on. That said, the archives are still a wonderful device.
Avatar 12:17pm StringOFperils:

Good day from somewhere on the third dust mote NSEW of Sol.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Irene Trudel:

Hi gongoleer, melinda, uuee, Brian and StringOFperils! Yes, it's a good day to remember all who've given unselfishly to help others, and to remember those dear to us who are now gone.
Avatar 12:19pm TDK60:

Was just listening to this Walker album yesterday. (I saw him once, /eons/ ago.) This was recorded at Levon Helms' studio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Irene and everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm fleep:

Howdy, Irene and streamers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Irene Trudel:

Brian, when Doug offered me that time slot I thought it would be perfect for both European and West Coast listeners. I once had that slot on WFMU proper and it's a good one for me too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Irene Trudel:

TDK60, I had Peter on my show twice over the years and there are still archives up. We've been in touch from time to time and he's currently in Peru I think. Hey, hi to you, coelacanth and fleep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm deesat:

Good afternoon, Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Irene Trudel:

Hey deesat! Hope you don't have to work today.
Avatar 12:24pm gongoleer:

@Melinda. Hi! Such freshness seeing your name pop up. Will call later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Greetings, Irene, and all folx wandering through WFMU land.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm melinda:

@gongoleer do we know each other?
Avatar 12:28pm gongoleer:

@Melinda. I thought so. May be wrong person. R U in Maine?
Avatar 12:30pm gongoleer:

@ Irene. That Myrkur cut is I think by person from Sweden who I just accidentally discovered on youtube. Records on Relapse records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Oh gosh, i remember that fire and when you were sharing about that then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm melinda:

@gongoleer yes, but I'm not in phone contact with anyone on the chat boards so I thought you might have confused me with someone else.
Avatar 12:34pm TDK60:

Irene, by "eons" I mean, I was a teen taken as a guest to WBAI during the Bob Fass show. Walker was playing live! Wavy Gravy was hanging out too. Summer 1967, what a time that was, wow.
Avatar 12:35pm Sean in Bristol UK:

That was beautiful, bless you Irene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Granny Spicy Tuna! TDK60, that's a very cool story about WBAI, Wavy Gravy and Peter Walker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Looks like a super hot and sunny day here in the City by the Bay. These sounds are settling in just right.
Avatar 12:38pm gongoleer:

@Melinda. Ok. Weird serendipitous coincidence. R u in Bridgton? I'm in Vermont. Anyway, enjoy and thanks for replies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Irene Trudel:

I heard you were going to get a heat wave in the Bay Area, Granny. Hey did you see that huge fire on Fisherman's Wharf? I was glad the Musee Mechanic and the rest of the are weren't too heavily damaged.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm melinda:

I'm in Portland. Funny coincidence! I used to live in Vermont.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Irene Trudel:

Portland's a lovely place, melinda. I was only there once but loved going there for an overnight stay and visiting friends while driving down the coast to San Francisco.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm melinda:

@Irene I'm in Portland Maine. Would love to visit the other Portland someday.
Avatar 12:48pm gongoleer:

@Melinda. Yes, amusing to say the least. This is example of seven degrees of separation. Where were you in Vermont? Portland Maine's downtown is lovely especially the seaside and docks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Irene Trudel:

Oh! How could I forget! My mom was from Portland, specifically she grew up on Long Island across the bay. I was thinking West coast because I just responded to Granny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm melinda:

I lived in Peacham. Not far from St. Johnsbury.
@Irene it must have been interesting growing up on one of the islands. I've Been to Peaks Island a couple of times but not Long Island.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm coelacanth∅:

i've driven through both portlands too fast.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

The Oregon Portland was named after the Maine Portland. A toss of a penny kept it from being called Boston.
  12:55pm Peter K.:

Today's show is a thing of pure beauty. As usual.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Irene—somehow i hadn't heard of that fire, however i am relieved it did not damage the Musee Mechanique. That place is a personally beloved treasure to me (though it felt more romantic when it was at the Cliff House)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Irene Trudel:

melinda, it was extremely rural when she lived there. One winter the bay froze solid and two of her aunts walked across the ice to visit. There was a news article and photo too! My granparents lived for a long time inFalmouth Foreside, and their street ended in a perfect little cove, great for young kids like me to discover tide pools. A beautiful area.
Avatar 12:59pm Hams:

melinda, i once camped out on peaks island at those obsolete military bunkers only to get kicked off the second night, having to catch the 5am ferry back into town. still pretty great, though, to get to hang out there. my buddy from maine & i were on the road, driving up from athens, ga.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

ha ha! i didn't get the Kitchen Cynics name until i heard it out loud. :)
Avatar 1:02pm gongoleer:

@ Melinda, Irene and everybody. I'm in Brattleboro. Use do live in Chelsea and have been to St. J, all over the state and know where Peacham is. Sweet spot.
Avatar 1:04pm TDK60:

I've been harassed by drag racers for about 40 nights now. Was jolted from sleep last night at 1:30 AM. (NYC)
Avatar 1:05pm uuee:

Remembering the "Five Finger Fahey" card, from the 'FMU trading card premium. Fahey tried leaving the Springdale Ave. studio, with LPs from the record library, under his jacket.
Avatar 1:12pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Oh my Lord, what a track,
Avatar 1:14pm TDK60:

...So a nap is due soon; tryin' to hold out till 3...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Irene Trudel:

TDK60, we are plagued by motorcyclists dropping by the two restaurants in our neighborhood which offer sidewalk drinks to go They often go late into the evening. I understand the need for a nap! uuee, funnily a few WFMU friends and I were just discussing the Fahey incident the other day.
  1:19pm Alan Cynics:

Many thanks again for the Kitchen Cynics play, Irene...I think that single is now sold out on physical format (and, weirdly enough, it was an 8" on the great Sonido Polifonico label) :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm melinda:

@gongoleer Brattleboro is nice. I remember stopping there a few times, I like their food co-op and there was a cool cafe downtown in an old warehousey space. Peacham was beautiful, but dull.
Avatar 1:22pm TDK60:

Alan, your music is fine. You're in Scotland? Which place?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm Irene Trudel:

Ah, thanks for clarifying, Alan! Nice tune. TDK60, Alan is in Aberdeen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm melinda:

@Hams local artists and musicians stage an event in the bunker every year. I've never been though.
  1:29pm Alan Cynics:

Hi TDK....I'm in Aberdeen (North East corner).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Hello Irene & Co. Tweedy and family did this on Colbert last week.
Avatar 1:31pm Hams:

oh, cool. yeah, we were actually on a little tour. played a show in orono, maine. on the campus there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Let's not forget ours!
Avatar 1:41pm TDK60:

It's "Howdy East Orange" Bob.
Avatar 1:45pm gongoleer:

@Melinda. When was your visit to Brat.? Co-op has moved to new location but still great food and can't think of cafe you're talking about. Turnover happens. Chelsea was quiet too. Much going on here. Lots of creativity.
Avatar 1:45pm Hubig Pie:

Walk like a camel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm melinda:

@gongoleer it was a long time ago, like 1999 or 2000. I think it was called The Cafe Beyond, and there was a bookstore up front.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Irene Trudel:

Kevin, I saw Wilco doing that song on Colbert's show too. So nice. And, yeah, birthdays! Happy to you too!
Avatar 1:59pm gongoleer:

@Melinda. OhWow, that was ages ago. I recall the place well. It closed but chef/owner has new rest., The Bistro and his partner has retail gift home decor shop on Main Street. Thanks for the memory. Back then I owned a record store, Mainly Music, next to Latchis Theater.
Avatar 2:01pm TDK60:

Ofen interesting to me when a new song is covered almost right away. (Dylan/Swift)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Irene Trudel:

I know, TDK60. Emma Swift is recording a whole album of her favorite Dylan covers but this is the only one available with a pre-order.
Avatar 2:06pm gongoleer:

@Melinda. If ever you're in area, reach me. getmusic@sover.net. Shal-Om, Namaste, Salaam & Peace to everyone. Have good days ahead. @Irene-Great show as always. Just what was needed. Will be in touch with more sounds soon.
