	7:36pm Dean: Zachary's? Andronico's sold out a few years ago to Safeway, which changed the location names to Safeway Community Market or some such BS. Business tanked, so just a few months ago they rebranded as Andronico's, even though it's still Safeway.

	7:48pm Dean: The Telegraph Andronico's closed a log time ago. It's now a (shuttered?) CVS.

	7:52pm Dean: In Southern California I'd shop with my mom at Market Basket, Stater Bros. (still there, but probably bought and sold half a dozen times), and King Cole. Whole Foods on Telegraph at Ashby is still doing its thing. Andronico's was on the east side of Telegraph. Solano Andronico's is still there, resurrected as Andronico's and across the street from Zachary's.
	7:52pm Franco Twinkie: Another place from olden tymes I like for no other reason that it was so out of step, was that hamburger place at the top of University near Collage. The food was nothing special, but I liked sitting in there and eating french fries.

	🇰🇷 7:56pm chresti: My parents moved there in 78 or 78, Tim. I was already living in LA, our family lived in Santa Maria, (69 to 78), before moving to the Bay area.

The food collective on Bancroft?

	8:07pm Dean: Vesuvio is--guess what?--closed. Turned into another place that didn't last long. The space has been dormant now for a long time. King Cole on Washington was near my very favorite restaurant when I was a kid, Ted's, a burrito take-out joint. I remember insisting to my parents that we "dine" there on my 12th birthday. Long gone, alas.

	8:10pm Dean: I realize some of us congregate here and spend a lot of time reminiscing. I confess I utterly empathize with the local history mindset. When I was commuting to work, I'd pass, daily, the old site of Rather Ripped Records, which I had the good fortune to visit c.'81.

He was also about 12 at the time, and very into "fine dining." Now he drags me to places in the outer mission that are most definately NOT "fine dining."

	8:39pm Dean: Rather Ripped was at Hearst and Euclid, NW corner, across the street from North Gate. It's now a cafe. Vik's is still around, but they moved to accommodate more business. Yay!

	8:55pm tim abdellah: I remember hearing some of his songs around the time of Tiananmen protest. They were pretty mainstream sounding, as I recall. I was really surprised to hear his later radical stuff (courtesy of the Bodega Pop blog).
	8:58pm Gary: He had a couple of mainstreamy-to-us albums early on, definitely! But, maybe because he started life out as a classical Chinese musician, he really branched out after a few years.

Do you remember a record store in Albany in the 80s on San Pablo between Buchanan and Solano, one or 2 buildings north from the Happy Donuts? I think it was called something like Uptown Records. It was mainly 45s, and it was super fun to poke around in there!

Whole Foods on Telegraph at Ashby is still doing its thing. Andronico's was on the east side of Telegraph. Solano Andronico's is still there, resurrected as Andronico's and across the street from Zachary's.

Do you remember a record store in Albany in the 80s on San Pablo between Buchanan and Solano, one or 2 buildings north from the Happy Donuts? I think it was called something like Uptown Records. It was mainly 45s, and it was super fun to poke around in there!
