	9:11am StringOFperils: Thank you for those words Jeff. Irrational fear of 'the Other', in general, is an ongoing human problem. Demonization of the unfamiliar. Here in Canada, the black thing is less pronounced I think, but we have a serious lack of recognition going on where First Nations are concerned. All of my life, I've seen the Ojibwe, the Mohawk, the Cree, etc etc etc get crapped on by society. When will we ever learn?

	10:56am Dean: Mike Nock lives in Australia. The NYT display pertains only to the USA. Even so, that display is infuriating. It demonstrates so much that is wrong with web design and journalism that aims to wow rather than inform.

	🥁 11:36am DJpeterDE: As an Asian American Studies scholar, I am very aware that the "LA Riots" and "looting" were very complicated. What if you're an immigrant from Central America who has seen all sorts of civil unrest... and you just need some diapers... and you don't trust the authorities.
	🥁 11:37am DJpeterDE: Has made me wary of the words Riot, Looting, etc. And makes me want to go back to the 1960s and assess if I would still call Stonewall, etc. "Riots"
	11:38am Jeff Golick: Baldwin, again, on "looting": ...how would you define somebody who puts a cat where he is and takes all the money out of the ghetto where he makes it? Who is looting whom? Grabbing off the TV set? He doesn’t really want the TV set. He’s saying screw you. It’s just judgment, by the way, on the value of the TV set. He doesn’t want it. He wants to let you know he’s there. The question I’m trying to raise is a very serious question. The mass media-television and all the major news agencies-endlessly use that word “looter”. On television you always see black hands reaching in, you know. And so the American public concludes that these savages are trying to steal everything from us, And no one has seriously tried to get where the trouble is. After all, you’re accusing a captive population who has been robbed of everything of looting. I think it’s obscene.

But sure, I'd like to have the last disc digital, I love my LP's, but I have easier access to the digital files, don't have to sit in the Living Room to listen to them).

	🥁 11:53am WR: On a friend's FB he linked video where a white male head to toe in black with helmet and respirator mask is walking along with demonstrators and starts using a hammer to break store front widows. Demonstrators shout, hey man, stop. He threatens them with hammer and then heads off via a parking lot, one demonstrator trailing and saying are you a cop. It could go either way, he could be leftist or rightist but either way his sole goal was to escalate the situation.

Here in Canada, the black thing is less pronounced I think, but we have a serious lack of recognition going on where First Nations are concerned. All of my life, I've seen the Ojibwe, the Mohawk, the Cree, etc etc etc get crapped on by society. When will we ever learn?

Grabbing off the TV set? He doesn’t really want the TV set. He’s saying screw you. It’s just judgment, by the way, on the value of the TV set. He doesn’t want it. He wants to let you know he’s there. The question I’m trying to raise is a very serious question. The mass media-television and all the major news agencies-endlessly use that word “looter”. On television you always see black hands reaching in, you know. And so the American public concludes that these savages are trying to steal everything from us, And no one has seriously tried to get where the trouble is. After all, you’re accusing a captive population who has been robbed of everything of looting. I think it’s obscene.

It could go either way, he could be leftist or rightist but either way his sole goal was to escalate the situation.
