Frank Sinatra's 1964 recording of "Fly Me to the Moon" became closely associated with NASA's Apollo space program. A copy of the song was played on a Sony TC-50 portable cassette player on the Apollo 10 mission which orbited the Moon, and also on Apollo 11 before the first landing on the Moon.

StringOFperils:

All I have of the 1966 live shows is my old cassette made from a friend's bootleg pressing back in the late 70s, which was out in the wild under a few different titles...can't imagine a box set, althoughit undoubtedly sounds better. Definitely a nascent Johnny Rotten in there, provoking a disturbingly religious following for whom Dylan is demonstrating contempt. A provocation to wake up.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:21am
doctorjazz:

I wasn't old enough to catch that concert that got Dylan boo'd. By the time I saw him come out to sing with The Band (encores at The Band's Academy of Music New Year's show), alli had been forgiven (the audience went bonkers)
Avatar 🥁 10:28am

@doctorjazz--it was MANY concerts in that tour. After a few concerts it became apparent that some in the audience came simply to boo, or at least scoff.

LG, I know, Dylan "betrayed" his folkie, protest singing roots, "sold out" to sing rock n roll, make tons of money, and infuriated his "fans", and for boos that entire tour. But, a year or 2 later, Electric Dylan was a star.
Avatar 🥁 10:36am
Listener Gregory:

@doctor, right. I wonder if he converted any of the folk fans or if he just recruited brand new fans. I guess we have to remember that most of the audience probably *didn't* boo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am
StringOFperils:

The irony in the idea of Dylan reluctantly becoming a rockstar, is that his roots are in 'peoples' music, and stories of the human heart, which is what he got from Woody Guthrie and Blind Willie McTell and others, but it wasn't (isn't) about the individuals, it's about the collective experience in the NOW. So, although schooled in the past, he was listening to new radio in the early 60s, and he wanted to be a part of that, part of what other people were doing, which was new pop music. Electric was where it was at (or going to be very shortly). What genuinely creative artist wants to be an imitator of the past? He knew he wasn't knee-deep in the big muddy, he was knee-deep in The Searchers, and The Impressions. The surprise wasn't Bob recanting his 'roots', the surprise was his audience turning out to be uber-controlling rigid conservatives who were looking for some kind of counter-culture fuhrer....to which he posted the riposte: You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows. I don't believe he ever recovered from the disillusionment.
