Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01am Fuzzy:

Now weekly! Excellent!
  12:02am Joeybug69:

Boy, howdy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02am Rory:

Hey all! I’m calling out fascist left and right! Now I’m going to fall asleep to WFMU!
  12:02am Jim H:

Go ahead, Ira! Psyched for this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03am fleep:

Oh, yes, new schedule, this is cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04am ultradamno:

Ira! Dashers and Vixens! Yeah, I'm keeping the second part.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04am Chop Scott:

Very happy to have you on the schedule! Cheers Ira!!
Swag For Life Member 12:04am Ira:

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm hitting the hay. Look at the time!
Avatar 12:05am Joe B:

greetings Ira and everyone
  12:05am Vince from Pearl:

Congrats on your time slot!
  12:05am John L:

Rearranging my work-from-home schedule so I can listen in real time. For a little bit, anyway. Hey Joe!!!
  12:06am JakeGould:

Greetings!

Must be weird starting a late night shift during these days of time and hours and wake up just being not that important.
Swag For Life Member 12:06am Ira:

Gotta warn you, Joe B.--this song's long enough to be a Neil Young number.
Avatar 12:07am Joe B:

can't get rid of me that easily - 'working from home'
Avatar 12:07am Joe B:

hey john!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08am jj.:

ah, making room for the extended cuts, already learning the ways of the weekly DJ!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am mariano:

Haha! I always imagined that being a prog-rock DJ in the 70s was probably the cushiest job in radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am Rory:

I like the new skedge! Bill Zebub is back and now 3 shows playing the heavy jams!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13am Ken From Hyde Park:

Greetings, Ira and Iranians! Welcome to your new gig!
Swag For Life Member 12:16am Ira:

I really am very excited to be here!
Avatar 12:17am Hoboken Jack:

Hello Ira, Joe, HP Ken, all! It's as if Hanukkah were being held on 8 consecutive Tuesdays!
Swag For Life Member 12:19am Ira:

Are you looking over my shoulder, Jack?
Avatar 12:21am Hoboken Jack:

On a step ladder, wearing a mask, six feet away from your shoulder.
  12:22am She Chimp:

Happy to be listening while I work in LA.
  12:23am flashbazbo:

Hey! Tuned in in time for once. Looking forward to this.
Avatar 12:25am wmbogart:

Arts for Art held a little Zoom birthday party for Marhall Allen's 96th a few weeks back! Any group that recognizes an arrival day is good in my book. Looking forward to checking out the other groups in the playlist comments throughout the night.
  12:25am Vertual:

Thanks WFMU for again interfering with my sleep schedule. I know i can wait for the archives...but i love listening live.
Avatar 12:27am Joe B:

loving this swamp dogg album
  12:27am Joeybug69:

Are we gonna get traffic on the 1’s, weather every 4 and sports at quarter after & quarter of?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27am Rory:

All hail Marshall Allen!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27am Gaylord Fields:

Auspicious start, Ira! Fortunately, I won't be faced with the Ira vs. Mannix dilemma this sets up. I'll listen to the show's third hour via archive, and I'll DVR Mike Connors, Gail Fisher, et al., while asleep.
Swag For Life Member 12:28am Ira:

Gaylord, it may be a controversial statement, but I'm not afraid to take an unpopular position: We're enjoying Cannon more than Mannix these days.
  12:30am JakeGould:

Gaylord’s master class of classic TV crime fighters is really something.
Avatar 12:30am Joe B:

maybe it will be the neil diamond episode of Mannix
Swag For Life Member 12:30am Ira:

Or the Buffalo Springfield one.
Avatar 12:31am ToTetsu:

and when you get old enough, its the the memories that leave and the people who stay
  12:31am JakeGould:

“We're enjoying Cannon more than Mannix these days.” Waaaay too polarizing. WFMU is not the place for this.
  12:31am Georgia:

Joe b, I’ve been watching so much mannix on me tv and have never seen a neil diamond episode. Are you making that up?
Swag For Life Member 12:32am Ira:

Sorry, JakeGould, it needed to be said.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Jack. Please provide us reports that our DJ is keeping himself properly hydrated.
Avatar 12:33am Joe B:

season 1! I will not give setlist spoilers either!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am ultradamno:

Ironsides, he got things done.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34am Chop Scott:

Indeed, there's Mannix but Cannon!! A true gourmand.
  12:34am JakeGould:

I think DJs are being forced to take some classic TV detective pro/con stance but I cannot speculate any further out for the good of the station.

Strapping myself in.
  12:35am Joeybug69:

Still waiting for them to bring Kojak back to the lineup.
Avatar 12:35am Joe B:

@Jake - well if that is the case I will be out of this one, team Rockford all the way!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am mariano:

No love for Barnaby Jones?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am ultradamno:

They did a reboot, briefly, and they made his name Ironsides. Like they didn't want that to be his nickname, so he's Joe Ironsides, or whatever, who just happens to be in a wheelchair. Weirdly brilliant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am Gaylord Fields:

Ira, I skew more towards Cannon too, but seeing as your post-show travel regimen likely interferes with your Cannon viewing, I wanted to honor your sacrifice for doing this show. Also, Lou Rawls was the guest star on yesterday's Mannix.
  12:36am JakeGould:

Here we go… The libs and their Kojak and Rockford allegiances. The agenda is so clear here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am McGroovey:

I haven't seen Mannix since I was a kid. I loved that show. Well, I loved pretty much all cop and detective shows when I was a kid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am Rory:

@Jake Don’t dismantle my world view it’s a free society!
Swag For Life Member 12:37am Ira:

Mannix created by Levinson and Link, who created Columbo. Columbo's (even) better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am Chop Scott:

The other night on Mannix featured Lou Rawls--and William Marshall!
Avatar 12:37am Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Is it too late to put a vote in for M Squad?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am Rory:

My grandfather use to say that.
  12:37am Vertual:

Polarizing is right. Everyone in my family thinks i'm crazy watching 50 year old TV shows - even game shows. They can keep Netflix. I got Concentration among others.
  12:37am Ignore Function:

Cool show so far, ITK.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am Gaylord Fields:

@JakeGould: I actually named a recent show of mine "A QM Production" — I forgot exactly why, but it made sense at the time. Probably just wishful thinking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am mariano:

Till I was 9 I only saw Mannix, Cannon, Quincy, etc dubbed in Spanish. I swear the same actor voiced each lead character. It was kind of shocking when I heard their actual voices.
Avatar 12:38am Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Also were all tapes of McMillan & Wife destroyed?
Avatar 12:38am Joe B:

Jake, I am about to make another shocking statement - Ira, Stan and I are the only FMU DJs to play more than one cut from Antietam's excellent Opus Mixtum album. an outrage!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am McGroovey:

@Todd do you mean Mod Squad? Yeah, I loved that one, too.
Swag For Life Member 12:38am Ira:

My mom was on Concentration.
Avatar 12:38am Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Joe B: Talk about an unholy trinity!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39am ultradamno:

I found myself watching Time Tunnel a lot recently. It's just happens to be on when I'm eating. It's pretty good.
  12:39am JakeGould:

DJs should only express their classic TV show preferences via their musical choices and not through their actual opinions let along literal playlist titles. What has happened to this station I would drink all afternoon to?!? A shande!
Avatar 12:39am Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@McGroovey: No, M Squad is a 50's show that I watched on DVD. The star is Lee Marvin. It's pretty great...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39am McGroovey:

Wait. McMillan & Wife got wife? The horror.
Avatar 12:39am Hoboken Jack:

Hello pt 2 TOPT, Georgia, McGroove, Gaylord. My mom has concentration issues.
  12:40am JakeGould:

Lee Marvin looks like how nicotine smells… Also, the title of “McMillan and Wife” always cracks me up… “…and Wife” Hahaha!
  12:40am Vertual:

Wow. I still suck at those puzzles! And think, you could win a new Chevette in 1974.
Avatar 12:40am Joe B:

@Todd - whoops make it a fab four - Rich Hazelton also has done it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40am Gaylord Fields:

I've recently fallen hard for Highway Patrol — but probably not as hard as Broderick Crawford after showing up on set well schnockered following another bender.
Swag For Life Member 12:41am Ira:

I miss the Concentration-y puzzles in Ballantine bottle caps.
  12:42am Joeybug69:

10-4
  12:42am JakeGould:

@JoeB: “Opus Mixtum” wow! I learn so much about tolerance via tolerating DJs extreme opinions here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42am McGroovey:

Huh. I love those old fifties TV shows, because they were a bit more like radio, and I love radio drama. Drammer.

Some are in YouTube. Most didn't last far into the sixties. The TV version of Richard Diamond is good. It's different from the radio version. I think it stars a young David Jansen?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am McGroovey:

And my phone makes random substitutions that I don't always catch.

McMillan and Wife got WIPED?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44am mariano:

Speech! Speech! Speech!
  12:44am JakeGould:

Also seriously, I have been watching classic Cagney and Bogart films. Not too many worth watching to be honest. But I like that old direction where everything is well composed and staged and acting actually had to work. Also, “White Heat” is such a messed up film… So clearly the basis for Tony and Livia’s creepy relationship on “The Sopranos.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am McGroovey:

Hey, my mom has concentration issues also, but she was never on Concentration. She still has all her faculties, though. I shoulda called my mom tonight
  12:46am JakeGould:

What we you going to call her?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48am ultradamno:

Pouring one out for Tom now.
Avatar 12:48am Joe B:

Dennis Quaid as DJ Ira the K in "The Rookie"
Swag For Life Member 12:49am Ira:

Saw White Heat at the Film Forum on Mother's Day one year. Lou Reed in attendance.
  12:50am JakeGould:

Now that is something!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50am McGroovey:

@jaka uh-hahah.
Avatar 12:50am Joe B:

wasn't a Get Crazy screening?
  12:51am JakeGould:

@ultradamno: Tom who? The cat who was constantly trying to murder Jerry?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am Scott Williams:

I'm handing the skeleton key over to Carol, g'night all! Ira, sounding great, so glad you join the full-timers!
  12:52am Vertual:

I went to one of Lou's book signings; be was so polite. He signed a CD for me...and i lost it probably when i was staying at the Y.
  12:52am JakeGould:

Bye Scott!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52am Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Scott. See ya at three.
Swag For Life Member 12:52am Ira:

Goodnight, Scott. Thanks for all your help!!!!

  12:54am Paper Moog:

I read that as “William Hooker” and therefore did not recognize the voice of my dear friend Aleta Hayes. She sang a (much shorter) Neil Young song for me once.
  12:56am JakeGould:

Bye all! Will learn to be more open minded about classic TV detectives.
Avatar 1:02am Paper Moog:

Aleta Hayes the vocalist for William Parker also leads a dance troupe at Stanford called Chocolate Heads

Swag For Life Member 1:09am Ira:

Joe, I was thinking the same thing. Also cast member on Mission: Impossible after everyone (read: I) stopped watching it.
Avatar 1:10am Hoboken Jack:

TOPT = yessssss
Never before noticed that Nimoy has a bit of a Jonathan Richman groove.
Avatar 1:10am Joe B:

@Ira - ha yes!
  1:10am pp:

i never would have guessed that was Nimoy. thought it was jonathan richman in his old age.

Swag For Life Member 1:37am Ira:

  1:50am Dungaroos Kipawah:

I’m late to the conversation, but would like to add my useless 2 cents:

I was at Film Forum one time seeing Peckinpah’s RIDE THE HIGH COUNTRY. 15 min into the film, Lou Reed and, I guess, an assistant, entered the theatre noisily, looking for seats. The usu FF crabs started shushing & hissing, sweet Lou prattled on, finding the two adjacent seats in the middle of a crowded row, provoking more imprecations and yammers. Lou fell asleep, rather loudly, abt 5 min later, a kind of rhythmic droning snore (said some reviews) then woke up after another 45 min, said loudly “THIS MOVIE SUCKS, LET’S GO” and then proceeded to upset the already upset cluckers and tsk-ers. One of his better late performances, I now can’t see RTHC without thinking of Lou Reed.

@Todd: M Squad is great. Have you ever seen Peckinpah’s The Westerner series. I bet Sterling Morrison loved it.
@ Chop Scott: that Lou Rawls Mannix was the Citizen Kane of Mannix-es. Tops. Look for the ep w Buffalo Springfield
Avatar 1:52am Joe B:

my favorite Glands song is When I Laugh (Swim is great also of course!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53am McGroovey:

I love the Lou Reed story. Do I wish I got out more in the '90s and had my own Lou Reed stories? Oh, I don't know.
Avatar 1:54am Joe B:

But Amanda is probably watching MASH

The first time I visited NYC (1998?), I just assumed I would run into Lou Reed at some point, because hey, who is more NYC than Lou? I saw that Film Forum was showing a premier of a Nico documentary, got tickets, and who did I see darting out of the movie as soon as the credits rolled? Lou and Laurie - Highlight of the trip.
