Listener comments!

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 11:59am listener james from westwood:

Now Dim would be part of the Johnson government.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:00pm Julie:

hiya James!
  12:01pm Mr Nobody:

Hey Julie! Hey James.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Handy Haversack:

Fair to say that many people in govt. these days indulged in a bit of the old ultraviolence ...

Hello, Julie! Hello, Ensouled Ones!

Hello, Bowie!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Julie:

hiya Handy! Hi Mr Nobody!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Julie:

how's the music volume? I know it's often too quiet I want to get it up a bit without distortion
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:06pm listener james from westwood:

I thought this sounded pleasantly like a film score; I was close!

The music is maybe a teeny bit low?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Handy Haversack:

Bowie volume sounded pretty good -- maybe just a tetch low? Not sure what the baseline should be for this one?
Avatar 12:09pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

Hey Julie, James, Nobody, Handy. Music volume good, the hi-fi qualities will be wasted on me as I head again to the scary world out there, and have to use either the tinny sounding phone speaker or headphones with a crackling cable. Won#t be commenting much but present as a listener. This is the 5 hour one? Hope your laptop won't fry Julie, use all available cooling options (OK, I am not really a computer technician ;) )!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Julie:

yes Cha Cha five hours! We shall find out!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Handy Haversack:

Oh wow, I forgot! Very exciting!

Hey, Cha Cha -- have a good walk and be safe. Always nice to see you!
Avatar 12:12pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

Ditto, Handy. It is so warm out there I can not resist. Also swimming is on the menu.
  12:12pm Mr Nobody:

Woohoo 5 hours. Be sure you have snacks and a comfy chair.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm adampsyche:

hello!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Julie:

hi there Adam!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Stanley:

Hey Julie and listeners happy, sad or in between.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Handy Haversack:

I would LOVE to be able to go swimming. Paddling (a ["Canadian"] canoe) to Astoria tomorrow, but swimming likely not doable ...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Julie:

hiya Stanley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm brainiac:

Hi Julie and dark nighters everywhere. This is the radio show we need right now.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Julie:

howdy Brainiac!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Handy Haversack:

Grab your forty-siders and settle in, brainiac!
Avatar 12:24pm Sylvia (France-NYC):

Hello Julie and listeners
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm fleep:

Greetings from hot'n'crispy L.A.
Avatar 12:25pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@12:17 Handy Haversack: the water is pretty clean here (unless there is algae) and the b**tard virus does not really spread in the swimming water (well this is the knowledge we have now) and I really don't get close to anyone out there as no-one is wearing masks really at least here in the countryside - the restrictions are gone to some extent, we are not back to normal, but almost. Then there are paranoid at-risk people like me, who change to the other side of the road as soon as there are any other people....
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Julie:

Bonsoir Sylvia, hello fleep!
Avatar 12:27pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

that Ice Choir had me fooled, "is this scritti politti??", heh.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Handy Haversack:

Wow, what a voice. I don't think I heard Kristy Thirsk before? What year was that?

@Cha Cha: The beaches are open here, but the ocean is closed. The river feels like a gray area, but not one I want to talk to police about *at all*.
  12:31pm elwyn:

hey

i'm awake and listening. my sleep cycle is a mess during Covid work-from-home.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Julie:

she was the singer for bel canto. I don't have a year on that performance but I think early 2000s
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Julie:

hiya elwyn!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm doctorjazz:

Hi Julieand folks out there!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Julie:

Elwyn is it like friday afternoon there?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Julie:

hiya Dr Jazz!
  12:35pm Mr Nobody:

@Cha cha that is good. Water varies wildly down here. Beaches are jam packed. Rivers and lakes are packed. For some added fun there was a recent alert about increased risks of the brain eating amoebas in our lakes, rivers, streams...etc. :(
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Julie:

oh boy brain eaters! woohoo! the fun never stops. in the NE they are talking about some new mosquito virus.
  12:37pm Mr Nobody:

2020 may get us all yet

*hums an REM song*
  12:39pm elwyn:

it's Friday 2:39 am in Sydney.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Handy Haversack:

Are you in the south, Mr Nobody? That's where the brain eaters swim mostly, right?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Julie:

i just killed the scariest looking giant bug in my bedroom
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Handy Haversack:

OK, Duran Duran, you're in the Hairlympics with Bowie. I guess Art Garfunkel's hanging around giving interviews, too, though he's not able to compete.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Julie:

it had many many legs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Julie and all
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Julie:

hiya coela! Allison Moyet's hair's pretty good too
  12:43pm elwyn:

make sure you kill all the bug's friends and family. otherwise they might organize a gang and try to avenge their dead comrade.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Julie:

yeah I might not be able to sleep tonight because there's probably more somewhere
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Handy Haversack:

Allison Moyet's in the running!
  12:47pm elwyn:

Stevie Nicks must be a serious medal contender for most cans of hairspray used.
  12:48pm Mr Nobody:

@Handy yes down south. The amoebas are everywhere but they usually only affect people in warmer areas.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Handy Haversack:

@Mr Nobody, I think there was a case at the Paddle Sports Expo in S. Carolina a few years ago!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm coelacanth∅:

i looked up Alyson Moyet but not coming up with any pix of her with interesting hair
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm coelacanth∅:

ha, okay i found one. boy is that terrible!
...and i never knew yaz was 1/2 female

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Handy Haversack:

I'm not official, but I'd qualify them just from the playlist photo.

Raveonettes are in, too!
  12:57pm Mr Nobody:

@Handy yes and I think one up around Minnesota several years back too but it was a very rare occurrence. I guess to be fair all of the instances are pretty rare though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm brainiac:

Wish I could hang out 4 more hours, but I'm bugging out to the mountains to search for waterfalls. But before I go, I want to share this article I'm reading on Medium called "Confessions of a Former Bastard Cop".

Very enlightening and timely: medium.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm coelacanth∅:

Handy yes, now that i know that's her

...i once had hair fairly similar to one of the most absurd of them all: the guy with the worst/best hair in a flock of seagulls.
fortunately there are few pictures of me from that period.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Julie:

oooh waterfalls that sounds nice
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Handy Haversack:

Thanks, brainiac -- and sounds like a great way to spend the day. Have fun!
  1:02pm Mr Nobody:

I thought you weren't supposed to go chasing waterfalls.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Julie:

how hot is it down there Mr Nobody?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Julie:

Brainiac thanks for that, will read it tonight!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Good morning(-ish), Julie!
Avatar 1:23pm still b/p:

The Bonnie track was nice as is, but also seems ripe for really being given the studio goose-up bizness, remix-wise.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:23pm Julie:

hi there S&M&S!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Julie:

I would think there's probably a disco 12" of it somewhere
  1:30pm JR Ewing:

it's wee Paul Williams
  1:30pm elwyn:

wow. Bonnie died 2 days ago. and not from covid.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:30pm listener james from westwood:

Always a good day for Paul!
  1:32pm JR Ewing:

Paul is still alive and kicking
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Julie:

@elwyn yes and I had not realized she had solo albums so I went exploring.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm coelacanth∅:

back to work
Thanks Julie! take care y'all
  1:33pm Mr Nobody:

Today isn't as bad as it has been the last week. About 85 right now and the humidity is down because of a front. It has been mid to upper 90s.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Julie:

thanks for stopping by Coela!
  1:34pm JR Ewing:

It's wee Jukie Trott
  1:34pm Mr Nobody:

  1:35pm JR Ewing:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Julie:

super humid in my place can't imagine how bad it is outside yuck
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Handy Haversack:

Yeah, these storms we were promised seem to have missed us for the most part. All we get is the humidity.
  1:38pm Mr Nobody:

Yeah it has been very melty if you were brave or foolish enough to step outside while the sun is out.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Julie:

I will never move back to TX might as well be living on the sun
  1:41pm Mr Nobody:

It builds character
  1:41pm Mr Nobody:

...and sweat
  1:44pm elwyn:

i enjoy a good thunderstorm.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Julie:

it would be nice to have one tonight
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Handy Haversack:

I am disappointed -- our forecast has gone from like .75" rain to .05"!
Avatar 1:46pm still b/p:

Old Twilight Zone episode last night: earth orbit was moving closer and closer to the sun. So big heat, yeah, but somehow another consequence was daylight all the time, even though nothing was said about the planet no longer spinning, which would be a whole different kettle of disrupted fish.
  1:48pm elwyn:

Last year, I experienced a thunderstorm so close that my 1st thought was "is it in my bedroom?"
2nd thought was the Egon Spengler quote "I am terrified beyond the capacity for rational thought".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm adampsyche:

big dump of rain this am in the catskills, woke me right up
  1:52pm JR Ewing:

let's see if we keep up the weather chat until the end of the show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Listener Bob in PGH:

Roger looks like a South Park character in that photo. He also looks like he just woke up right before the photo shoot.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Julie:

ooooh maybe it's heading this way, adam!

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Julie:

I can do that!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Handy Haversack:

Total number-one hit. Someone should tell Michael Shelley!
  2:49pm JR Ewing:

wooooooo thx!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:51pm Julie:

did anyone see his stream last night? I forgot :( he did 80s tunes.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Julie:

Robyn that is
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Handy Haversack:

I have yet to watch a stream. I probably don't have or won't use any of the platforms in use on them. And even still ... I don't know. We just haven't done it.

WFMU rarely gets turned off, though.
  3:01pm Mr Nobody:

Ugh an awful lot of sniffling, coughing and sneezing going on here. I feel sooooo safe being back at work.

*Sprays Lysol*
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:01pm Julie:

awww man... do you have a mask at least?
  3:03pm Mr Nobody:

Cloth mask. So yeah a whole lot of good it is doing I'm sure. Still better than nothing. It is recommended that we wear them in our common areas and elevators. So many people not wearing them of course.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Julie:

yeah my building is still like that too. Got into an elevator with a maskless man who then put his mask on.
  3:05pm Mr Nobody:

I sure am glad we haven't seen a record increase in cases here.....oh wait.
-__-
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Handy Haversack:

Is there anyone you can bring that to, Mr Nobody, who can enforce the policy?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Andrew Waterloo:

If there is one stream worth watching its Peter Hook's performance for Salford festival
  3:06pm Mr Nobody:

They are pushing for everyone to return ASAP and trying to get everything back to normal. Seems like much is being overlooked.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:08pm Andrew Waterloo:

To go into the office I have to fill in a survey about my symptoms and wear a mask unlss I am at my desk far away from another human
  3:11pm Mr Nobody:

We have thousands in our building. Thankfully probably less than half are actually here right now. The only checks we have are signs advising people to stay home if they are sick and reminding them to wash their hands.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Handy Haversack:

Oof. I guess there's OSHA, if you feel comfortable going that route. That's really hard.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:13pm listener james from westwood:

What a good cover of this tune!
Avatar 3:14pm still b/p:

Hired for odd jobs for a senior citizen last week when the hyrdroseeding crew for her development came through. I didn't see the interaction, but moments after she spoke to a crewmember, she reported that when he, without a mask, kept approaching her, she said, "Don't come close to me," and he barked at her,"You people pay too much attention to the news!"...loudly and abruptly enough to shake her up a little.
Heyyyy..."I'll boost yer risk and rag atcha, too!"
Avatar 3:15pm Hubig Pie:

I likey
  3:15pm Mr Nobody:

Just trying to keep to myself, work and listen to some tunes.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Julie:

yikes, still b/p
  3:18pm Mr Nobody:

Amazing how many arguably educated people think it is all a hoax or greatly exaggerated.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Julie:

Everyone I know who had it is still having breathing issues and/or massive headaches months later.
  3:19pm Mr Nobody:

Same here
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:20pm WR:

Work meetings "on pause" for the moment. I was just thinking, shucks, missed Dark Night and then seeing it still going remembered that Larry is off this week. Listening as prepping lunch.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Julie:

Still are you like a taskrabbit or something?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Julie:

heya WR!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Handy Haversack:

Going to have to duck out for 45 mins. I'll be back!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Julie:

okay Handy! see ya then :)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Julie:

this is one of my nifty bandcamp day purchases from Friday
  3:23pm Mr Nobody:

Oh and more fun. We received an HR email stating that we will only be informed of a coworker being sick with the virus if we have had close contact with them. Since no one is supposed to have close contact with others it doesn't take much to put two and two together about informing us.
  3:23pm Mr Nobody:

Catch you later Handy
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Michael 98145:

- too much news - can really mess with yer dumbness
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Julie:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Michael 98145:

isn't that Michele's show?

:)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Julie:

haha yes
Avatar 3:27pm still b/p:

Patchy hodge-podgey worklife for last several years, with some regular acquaintance hires and random bits of assisting, along with occasional moments of former worklife in media production. Unfotunately, more definable work areas in the mix include ones utterly decked and deferred for the present, such as theater-related jobs. But very fortunately, and almost inexplicably, the hashy miscellany is pretty busy right now, so no sudden stop in laboring and earning.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Julie:

well, that's good at least. yeah I don't know how the theatre/concert industry is ever gonna come back :(
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Michael 98145:

good point ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Hello Julie, Handy, Brainiac
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:31pm Julie:

hi Sweet Corn Lizzie! you make me hungry!
Avatar 3:32pm still b/p:

Some performing companies keep announcing re-opening/re-trying dates, but the extra caution conditions and distancing, and willingness of patrons -- which for theaters often means seniors -- make it all unknowable and roll-the-dicey.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Andrew Waterloo:

I try to be balanced about the whole thing. Social distance where ever possible, wear a mask while indoors and close to people. Only go to places if 'necessary' but I don't get a lot of anxiety if I have to get close to people.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Michael 98145:

i will be so glad when this is behind us. if ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

contender for the hair, these guys
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Brian in UK:

Hey Julie, respect for the shift you are putting in.

Do you think that it is Kubrick's idea of a joke to give McDowell the number 665 not 666?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Handy Haversack:

Back! I never should have left!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Handy Haversack:

Yes, the hair field is getting crowded. Lots of strong contenders.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Julie:

wb Handy! @Brian I thought Alex WAS 666, the officers are 665 and 667.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Brian in UK:

Oh my mistake. Not seen it since release date!!!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Julie:

Why would a Californian wear as woolly bobble hat?
An affectation, sir.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Julie:

Avatar 4:13pm still b/p:

Oh, yeahhhh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Brian in UK:

Such a prophetic album title.
  4:16pm Dean:

The famous(?) photo of Gabriel in the Ethos t-shirt. Good band, Ethos.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Julie:

I don't know them!
  4:17pm Dean:

Early among a wave of newer prog bands, Yes/Genesis sound-alikes.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Julie:

oooh I will have to hear them thanks Dean!
  4:19pm Dean:

Well, then, you might also want to hear Druid, and I assume you do know Starcastle?

Didja get my email with two or three other suggestions last week?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Brian in UK:

So, tell me gentlemen what is the ethos of your music?

Well, pulling chicks mainly.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Julie:

yeah I think I did, Dean but I've been buried in email this week. Starcastle yes of course thanks to Clay Pigeon. Druid, no. Yay more new stuff to check out!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Julie:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Julie:

I think I'm having an Irene moment
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Stanley:

Back from the 'walk'. How long have we got?
Better catch up on the hair pronto.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Handy Haversack:

There are worse moments to have!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Julie:

about 14 minutes! WB stanley!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Handy Haversack:

The competition started slow Stanley, but it's gotten pretty fierce!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Julie:

I love her so much. She is as wonderful as her show is.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Julie:

it is hard to beat the guys in virgin prunes but I am digging Signe's pigtails.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Julie:

I don't have anyone following and I think I get a 7 minute grace period in the archives so I can actually finish my playlist! that never happens.
Avatar 4:50pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

Back home. the show should be always this long. As I made a long call and went swimming later I did have two breaks, both seven songs long for a strange coincidence. Even if the cable of my headphones is gonna meets its maker (or something) soon, I managed to enjoy most of this in glorious stereo!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Julie:

fabulous, Cha Cha!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Julie:

sorry that was a bit abrupt
  4:53pm Dean:

Clarification re: terminology: are those pigtails or pony tails?
Avatar 4:53pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

I had never heard that wembley live recording from Pink Floyd. Amazingly well recorded, and even though I am a Syd Floydite, it'd have been amazing to see them around Wish You Were Here. It sounded that good.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:54pm Stanley:

I see we kicked off with a nice Barnet from Hunky Dory era Bowie.
Prince looking good.
But as a 'collection', it'd got to be Amazulu. Love the Mullet.
Yes #1 Amazulu.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:54pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks for the OT today, Julie. The discotheque features Global Grease tomorrow, I see.
  4:54pm JR Ewing:

Avatar 5:02pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

A pity I missed all the chatting but musicwise this was hardly enough. Please Julie, make the show a 5-hour thing from now on (here's hoping...) But anyways thanks so much for this, you did a very good mix of tunes. Perfect summer evening soundtrack!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Julie:
