Miles Davis?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm

former hampton grease band guitarist harold kelling!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm

Hey jj and crew, frowsers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm
jj.:

they never put out any official music, that broadcast from the 12th gate is the only thing that's ever surfaced by the starving brain eaters. the whole thing is on youtube.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm
jj.:

harold was one of the 2 fantastic guitarists in the hampton grease band, who made "music to eat" in '70/'71.
  9:31pm
Carmichael:

I followed Bruce Hampton, but was not aware of Kelling’s whereabouts.

Hey all. Hi DJ jj.

Thought that was Miles also. Right on with vetting all these past members and connections to HGB.

Long live Col Bruce!
Avatar 9:32pm
John Purcell:

I've liked a lot of the HGB stuff you've played. Especially that one recording you found that was only in one channel and you cleaned up. I remembering really digging that one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm
jj.:

according to the grease band members, hampton cribbed a lot of his later shtick from kelling, who was the true genius of the band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm
jj.:

i love a bunch of hampton's later stuff, but the HGB is my fave project he was involved with by a long way.

just had a weird moment of switching from FM broadcast to streaming on the computer through the same stereo.
whatever interference is here in the FM broadcast is just making that guitar a little crunchier in the right spot. i've switched back over.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm

you'll want that for the next jam too!

Were fireworks legalized in NJ or something? Because there have been a LOT more of them going off this year in southern Bklyn than usual: gothamist.com...

Evening! How low can you go?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm
jj.:

wow, thanks ike. didn't realize there was actual reportage about it. makes sense to me. people are ready to blow shit up. fireworks seem like a fairly non-destructive option as those things go.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm
jj.:

i'm usually close enough to launch point somehow that i can hear the whooooooosh before the detonation. it only annoys me when it's a sudden explosion. if i can brace for it it's not too bad.
  11:16pm
rw:

Tons of fireworks here in LA area too.
  11:17pm
Chris H:

Strangely, I’ve heard less here on NJ than in a normal summer

Forgive the tangent- But is there truly no Irwin show on WFMU for the next 6-9 months? Is Irwin ok?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm

irwin's fine, just taking a season off.
Avatar 11:27pm
slugluv1313:

yeah, fireworks here too (Hoboken)
i was loving how quiet it has been -- and as much as i LOVE how gorgeous and spectacular fireworks can be, i also really hate how much it can scare the shit out of a lot of the critters -- dogs, some cats (some are totally freaked out, some seem not to care at all), wildlife :(
  11:31pm
bo:

there have been fireworks going off constantly at night for a while in baltimore... this Hassell eno gives it a real vibe
  11:31pm
rw:

Ha! slugluv, last night a firework went off while I was walking my dog and it literally scared the shit out of him. It was a little funny and a little sad at the same time. He's getting old.
Speaking of... time to walk the dog. BRB.
