	3:44pm David Dichelle: Flood control and leveling, I think, although I'm no expert.
	🚂 3:48pm Carmichael: @Brian, the neighbor's dog passed away at about the same time as Spencer. They just yesterday rescued a new one, a shepherd/corgi mix.
	🚂 3:50pm Bas NL: Looks like a V-notch weir used for controlling water levels (before the weir). In the past i have constructed instrumentation for measuring water levels on weirs like that.
	🚂 3:52pm WR: Having wolfed down some pasta, I relax a bit and contemplate the photo. Very interesting. I'll later look at it on a computer. In the USA most water control is done by concrete. Interesting to see what has been done by brick and stone.

He was interested to interview me because I had lived in Houston before moving to Dallas. He was researching "surfer English". A pleasant encounter but neither of us got what we were looking for.

	4:33pm Stanley: Okay, I see, surfers have their own language. I suppose this will also extend to skate boarders.
	🚂 4:34pm WR: Though I went surfing regularly during my high school years, I knew more about The Animals, The 13th Floor Elevators The Doors and The Velvet Underground than than what kids said when acting silly, i mean cool, on the beach.

	4:36pm Stanley: Nice little mix of styles in this Ikenga Super Stars. New to me.
	🚂 4:36pm Carmichael: I think skateboarders (sidewalk surfers) adapted and updated the lexicon. i do know what it means to get chongo-ed.

	🚂 4:39pm Carmichael: It involves an immovable object, like a pole, striking you in a sensitive place at high speed.
	🚂 4:39pm WR: A major memory i have from surfing is hearing Everly Brothers, Roy Orbison and Chuck Berry set of songs blasting loudly endless repeating from a tourist gift shop near the beach.

	🚂 4:46pm WR: Texas. Galveston, Surfside mostly. A few times went to Corpus Christy. Best surf was early morning when tide was changing. So would get up at 4am, be out by 5am and surf until 8 or 9am, then fall asleep in the car listening to Chuck Berry & Everly Brothers.
	🚂 4:47pm WR: David, that is what Hermes Nyes was investigating.
	4:48pm Mark R: Sounds OK now. I'm really enjoying this set. Complements the warm temps nicely.
	4:49pm David Dichelle: Interesting stuff, WR, sociolinguistics can be quite fascinating.

	🚂 4:50pm Carmichael: Wow, wonder what the break would be like in Texas. I surfed all over California, from Manhattan Beach up to Santa Rosa. Except for Dana Point, which is not for the faint of heart.
	🚂 4:52pm WR: My days of surfing were 66 and 67, summer 68 my family moved to Dallas and i never surfed again. So not surfer for life type, but i still have every LP I bought back then. In storage.
	4:52pm Sem: Sub-continental jazz. Cool.
	🚂 4:54pm WR: Surf was so tame in Texas that when a hurricane came there would be 100s of people trying to finally get some exciting waves.
	4:56pm Stanley: That T.K. Ramamoorthy chugged along very nicely.

	🚂 4:46pm WR: Texas. Galveston, Surfside mostly. A few times went to Corpus Christy. Best surf was early morning when tide was changing. So would get up at 4am, be out by 5am and surf until 8 or 9am, then fall asleep in the car listening to Chuck Berry & Everly Brothers.

	🚂 4:52pm WR: My days of surfing were 66 and 67, summer 68 my family moved to Dallas and i never surfed again. So not surfer for life type, but i still have every LP I bought back then. In storage.

	🚂 4:54pm WR: Surf was so tame in Texas that when a hurricane came there would be 100s of people trying to finally get some exciting waves.
