I was in Sweden for Midsommar in 1976. Yeah, exciting. Plus they had a new queen, Sylvia, at the time, her picture was everywhere.

Didn't know, WebH. Hmm.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:09pm

Look what I missed though, just a week or two late: (thanks Wikipedia): The wedding was preceded, the evening before, by a Royal Variety Performance, where the Swedish musical group ABBA performed "Dancing Queen" for the very first time, as a tribute to Sweden's future queen.

Hello David and stream sailors.

Are there many canals in your neck of the woods?
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:44pm

Hi TDK60, thanks, luckily the sun didn't come out until after 10 this morning, more of a June gloom effect, mid 70s to lower 80s.
Avatar 4:47pm
TDK60:

David, I got to see Riley perform with a raga group about 12 years ago. He was lead raga singer. Also tabla, tambura, etc. In a small church converted into a yoga place in Portland, Or. Maybe 50 people. He certainly was a presence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm
David Dichelle:

Good evening Brian, yes we have all sorts of waterways here. The one in the picture is sort of an odd bit leading down into one of the new artificial lakes near Leipzig. I'll have to explore it more sometime.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 4:49pm

Hello, Brian.
There's a sweet canal on the Island of Cape Breton, at St. Peter's. www.visitstpeters.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm
David Dichelle:

TDK: Sounds like this piece may have been part of the program.
Avatar 4:53pm
TDK60:

David, it was an all-acoustic Indian-style combo of maybe 6 or 7. A morning concert so maybe a morning or noon raga or ragas. Forget.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm
David Dichelle:

Wait, only 50 people - that must have been amazing.

Wow. That was a lot of hooha here keeping me from enjoying the program. Back to the sanity of Riley.

Dean:

Betty Freeman took the photo of Riley on this CD booklet. She is the Freeman of Cage's eponymous Etudes. I met her at a concert in Los Angeles back in the '80s. She thought she recognized me from a party. I assured her I hadn't been to the party.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm

Hey, Dean - maybe it was the sort of party you can't remember if you were there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm

BiUK: let's say it's the most recent refurbishment, it's been there in one form or another forever. As a youngster travelling to the Newfoundland Ferry terminal in North Sydney, crossing the Canal was a big thing.

I remember hearing something about Hollywood, where someone has a concept that gets developed into a theme, which then gets a treatment, and finally is "an idea".
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 5:43pm
WR:

From Wikipedia: "Softly, as in a Morning Sunrise" is a song with music by Sigmund Romberg and Oscar Hammerstein II from the 1928 operetta The New Moon.

I don't recall early Coltrane version where one can clearly discern the original composition as can be done with what Coltrane did with My Favorite Things. Back to work for me, will have to ponder that at another time. Laters all, thank you for the excellent program today David.
