Last night, I rabbit-holed just a bit watching kids do their mad cool footwork street dancing to cumbia. Good for one's spirit.

Gary, Michael, Chresti, String, NGH, Coel, wmbogart, and SBP! Thanks for trekking over to Horse World. You have my word you'll be rewarded handsomely!

I'd love to see some cumbia footwork vids, SBP. Post em if you got em.

I've mentioned it before, but the Netflix movie, "I'm no longer here", show a bunch of kids in Monterrey into cumbia rebejada and also takes place in Elmhurst, Queens....

Whoaa. Those kids have some moves. That's great!

(Monterrey, Mexico, where cumbia rebejada started).

@Sam: Actually, I only went once, and I was 13. It was exhausting. I got a good view of Tokyo from the top, and it was snowing in July. A bunch men were hitting golf balls into the caldera (I believe it's illegal to do so now)>

I was and am, to some extent, a huge fan. I listened daily to his mid-'70s post-Genesis solo records with great affection. But I kinda wearied of them, yet it's a tremendous pleasure to hear him again selected by somebody not drawing from my particular attachments.

I recommended to Julie at DNotS a few records that I thought she'd dig. Based on the last set, I'm thinking you might, too.

Alkatraz, Doin' a Moonlight (ex-Man folks)

Nothing Left to Say, particularly the guitar part reminded me of some 70s pop rock, driving me whacky trying to recall what it was ... words like "don't go breaking my heart " or something like that.

i had the level very low before during the second set too low to hear really and the laptop was in screensaver mode but now i see that as my nephew and myself were speaking of languages and linguistics, among other things, the maracaibo, Hugh Masakela, and hot air balloons were all referenced in our conversation.
that shit happens all the time but i'm always amused

Chris Farrell:

For any Grateful Dead fans out there: does the picture of the person with an ice Cream cone of rainbows smashed into their forehead make you think the name “ Dipstick” is extremely fitting for them?

The WFMU offers a personal statement which for me allows me a time talk about myself. That is a tough thing to pass up. I love to write bios and read them, my most recent Tinder bio was “I’m not a very good artist so a picture with a 1,000 value is going to have to be digital. Or at the very least a Polaroid.”
I was trolled and had to remove the profile but the phrase is coming with me..

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm

I also wondered about that edited-in music. There's a spot later in the video, I think, where just the location speaker sound is there. But I guess someone decided the camera mike sounded like...the camera mike, and hated it.
  11:41pm

Gracias NGH. A girl I spoke with on Tinder coincidentally only spoke Spanish so I learned google can translate otherwise I would not have known how to respond.

  11:47pm
Dean:

I have no idea what "online dating" means. Talking to people using media other than in-person, phone, postcard, or email? If I were connecting to somebody via postcard it would be postcard dating?

Folks, it isn't the medium that determines the gist of the message (or, per McLuhan, the massage). It's the simple fact that your interactions have been reduced to commodities. Medium doesn't matter. Signing up and agreeing to be sold does.
  11:50pm
Chris Farrell:

I understand NGH, I am hoping all is well with you too. I was looking at learning the Spanish spoke in Argentina and could not remember if I was discussing that with you but I assume you know the difference.

It’s in my file of goals. Along with a recently added goal of figuring out a good way to destroy and recycle E-waste a growing problem in the digital era.

By including both those in one comment I should clarify I am NOT going start bringing E-waste to Argentina to be disposed of..

Good point Dean, too much to unpack for me or engage in due to low battery on my phone (no irony intended but there never the less).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm
coelacanth∅:

...yeah the music is excellent and i think totally appropriate just not in time with the dancers. and then they recycled the footage midway through, the awesome scene where the ladies straddles the dudes and the children danced before them!
-worth seeing twice! but it may have just been so they could have the video long enough to put an ad in the middle.
...at least the ad wasn't for ronald mcdonald trump.
