Avatar 11:44am Sean in Bristol UK:

Good afternoon, Irene, hello one and all
Avatar 11:46am Sean in Bristol UK:

Feeling quite chuffed, managed to blag a ticket to an artist you introduced me to, Sun Kil Moon. Going to see him at The Trinity Centre, Bristol in November, happy days!
Avatar 11:47am Sean in Bristol UK:

Oh, love the picture of Kitka, looking chilled and relaxed.
Avatar 11:58am βrian:

Kitty in the window, Irene on the Drummer Stream. Good afternoon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm listener james from westwood:

Morning, Irene, listeners, Kitka!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Irene Trudel:

Hey annie, Sean, βrian, and james! Welcome to this summery afternoon in NYC.
Avatar 12:03pm βrian:

Speaking of writing on the wall, I now have 105 tally marks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Doug Schulkind:

Two Irenes in three days. Radio heaven!
Avatar 12:04pm Malcolm:

Hey Irene and Trudelists!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Irene Trudel:

That's cool βrian. Sean, hope your show with Sun Kil Moon happens. He's really an engrossing performer. Thanks for the kind words, Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm sphere:

hello. first time chatter, long time listener!
Avatar 12:07pm βrian:

Better oblate than never, @sphere.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm sphere:

@ βrian: LOL
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Irene Trudel:

Welcome sphere! Glad you're 'round. (Sorry, couldn't resist the pun!)
Avatar 12:09pm StringOFperils:

Hi there all. Is it just me, or is the main GAIN dropped down a little?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Doug Schulkind:

I agree, StringOFperils. The volume could use a nudge, methinks.
Avatar 12:12pm Malcolm:

cute cat irene!
Avatar 12:14pm StringOFperils:

Thx for the vote of confidence, boss! I have some residual tinnitus from a run-in with a radiation cannon, so sometimes I'm not sure whether I should trust my ears....but I did compare output levels with your parallel streams....and this seemed oddly quiet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm doctorjazz:

Hi Irene, long time no hear!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Irene Trudel:

StringOFperils and Doug, the level thing is probably on my end. I started out with the wrong output of my computer. Has it improved?
Avatar 12:16pm StringOFperils:

Yes, Irene, that is better now. Sorry to step on your toes, btw.
Avatar 12:17pm Really Lisa:

Hi Irene and everyone. Ready to relax! No pressure :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks, Malcolm! Kitka is such a work in progress. She was my brother's kitty but rescued from his backyard and a bit skittish. She at leas won't run every time she sees us.
Avatar 12:19pm Malcolm:

we are thinking of getting a rescue cat to keep us company during lockdown (and beyond!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Irene Trudel:

Oh, not a problem String OF Perils. I can't listen to the stream signal as I go due to the delay. If anyone hears strangeness, best to bring it up to me right away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Irene Trudel:

Hey doctorjazz and Lisa! Getting more relaxed now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Irene Trudel:

Malcolm, getting a rescue cat is a great idea. They are so grateful to be in an actual home. My three kitties are a constant comfort and distraction.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm sphere:

My cat Sam is currently lying on my right foot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Irene Trudel:

Excellent, sphere!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Doug Schulkind:

I'll send you the files, Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm sphere:

Granny I got the postcard from your gracious offer thanks so much. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Irene Trudel:

Hey L.O.T. and Granny! I love dogs too, but cats have the edge for me especially as an apartment-dweller. Hi Brian and dougseidel. Trying to create some dreamy spaces between your ears.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

sphere: yay! that was fun! (and the offer still stands, folx!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Irene Trudel:

Wow, thanks Doug! That Larry Young album seems really rare. Strange that most of his others have been reissued.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

I have two littermate kitties adopted from the "Kitty Rotunda" at the SPCA. <3 <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Irene Trudel:

Aww, Granny! I had a brother pair who I took in when my cat sitter (and their kitty-mom) passed. They loved to sleep entwined in each others'' paws. Sadly they're gone now. But I have new kitties to love.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm sphere:

"Lawrence of Newark" is not on Apple Music or on Bandcamp but if you RAR it, things happen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Doug Schulkind:

My life is a near constant RARing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Irene Trudel:

sphere, that's true, but I don't usually use RAR as a resource. I think Doug may have me covered for this one though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm sphere:

Oh I understand, Irene. It's just an option.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

beautiful set
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm annie:

  1:16pm watchpocket:

Hello Irene it's great to hear your voice!
Avatar 1:16pm gongoleer:

hello all. late again but here now. humid, muggy in vt. and beset with internet issues. need some cool sounds. have good days everyone.
Avatar 1:18pm Listening Out There:

Doug, you is the man...
  1:21pm watchpocket:

Just realized I was the only non-yellow name in the entire group here. Fixed that (I think). Test!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Irene Trudel:

Hey watchpocket and gongoleer! Glad you made it today. If you had internet issues, there's always the archive to check out later.
Avatar 1:31pm gongoleer:

Yes, thanks but instead went to library sitting in car and got signal. So my Monday goes. Could be worse. Downpour now. Much rain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Doug Schulkind:

I have to dash away to prep for a work meeting. Check your in-box, Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Irene Trudel:

gongoleer, we had lots of rain yesterday but luckily we made it back inside before it hit.

Thanks Doug! hope your meeting goes well.
Avatar 1:38pm βrian:

Ah, the thunder is rolling in. I hope it cools things off.
Avatar 1:42pm gongoleer:

@Brian, where are you that you're having thunder? Rain here doesn't cool anything off, just makes it feel like Florida humidity.
@Irene: Did you receive my email with inquiry?
Avatar 1:43pm βrian:

Madison, WI, @gongoleer. A few weeks back we had a 25 degree drop after a storm, though that's rare.
Avatar 1:46pm gongoleer:

tnx Brian. quite drop. 75 degrees now. thunder & lightening. good time for Rainy Day Raga.
Avatar 1:47pm gongoleer:

@Irene. Coincidence you should play something with what sounds like Tabla at same time I sent comment.
Avatar 1:48pm βrian:

@gogoleer: Used to live in Monkton, VT.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm sphere:

Is Gun Street Girl a Tom Waits song?
Avatar 1:57pm gongoleer:

Brian, thats way up north, right? I used to live in Chelsea. Now for many years, I'm in Brattleboro
by mass. border
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Irene Trudel:

It is, sphere. This whole album by VikiKristinaBarcelona features Tom Waits covers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm sphere:

@ Irene: cool!
Avatar 1:59pm βrian:

Ah, so you're in the Banana Belt? Heh. I spent a lot of time in the Norwich/Hangover area, but that was as far south as I ventured.
Avatar 2:03pm gongoleer:

Hahahah!!! Not many bananas here but quite a few nuts. When were you in Norwich area? In '75/'76 played that whole area with various groups. Pintoy, Strums Toots and Bangs, Dartmouth Jazz Orch. etc. Like play on words with Hangover(Hanover). Cute.
Avatar 2:07pm duke:

Kitka is very handsome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm annie:

.... wow i've been drifting in and out of awakeness..i got little sleep last night..the music has been wonderful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Duke! she is one of a long line of Tuxedo kitties I've had in the family. annie, so glad to provide a soundtrack for your dream-state.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm annie:

it totally works, irene
Avatar 2:18pm βrian:

86 to 91, roughly. I was holed up off grid with a friend, off and on. Burlington area mostly, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm doctorjazz:

Andy started off as a mandolin player...i saw him play a mostly bluegrass show again a few months before the COVID lockdown (I had only seen him play Klezmer many years before this). Of course, he played in a synagogue in New Jersey...
(l have the Wretched Refuse String Band album on vinyl from back then).
Avatar 2:25pm gongoleer:

By that time I was in so. vt. Many bananas/nut breads down here off grid too. I was for a while but no longer. Now, looking for Tiny House to tour with.
Avatar 2:28pm gongoleer:

You all hear that Milton Glazer died at 91? He created & is best known for I Love NY graphic, Bob Dylan poster insert and much more. Numerous other lp covers.
Avatar 2:34pm βrian:

How I once swooned over the Roches!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm doctorjazz:

Roches (again)! That's a great album! (Mr Sellack next show?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm Webhamster Henry:

I could swear I heard the Roches earlier... and now, here they are!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm doctorjazz:

(Sounds a bit more distant than I'd expect...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Irene Trudel:

doctorjazz, I'm friends with Ed Haber, who records Andy whenever possible and know a few of the members of Wretched Refuse. When I had a regular WFMU show, I would have Ed, Marty and Kenny on to host a Citizen Kafka tribute, playing many tracks Andy was featured on. When it's possible in the future I'd love to get back to doing those.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Irene Trudel:

Played the Roches on Saturday's fill-in. I adore them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm maestroso:

Mr Fripp!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm doctorjazz:

Irene, that would be GREAT! (I used to see Bob Jones for repair work on an uncooperative Martin for quite a while after the Brooklyn College days, but the last time was many years ago).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Webhamster Henry:

I was a huge Wretched Refuse fan - and they had so many excellent sit ins and peripheral players as well during their live shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Irene Trudel:

Indeed, maestroso! doctorjazz, there are quite a few archive shows featuring our Citizen Kafka tributes. I'm sure Ed and Marty Cutler and Kenny Kosek would be into doing them again. We also included material from The Citizen's WBAI comedy show. Now that we're on the stream, maybe we could air some of the more "blue" material.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Webhamster Henry:

One of the Shulcoth shows featured a mix of "Frank Language" disclaimers from the WBAI Citizen Kafka show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm doctorjazz:

Loved the show, Irene, have to wait a week now...
  2:56pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Thank you so much, Irene, stay safe one and all
Avatar 2:58pm βrian:

Frank language is our lingua franca.
Avatar 2:58pm Really Lisa!:

Thank you, Irene. A great accompaniment to my afternoon.

Hope everyone has a peaceful week.
Avatar 2:59pm gongoleer:

Adios fellow Ireners. Good hanging with you. May the planet find healing soon. Shal-OM.
Avatar 2:59pm βrian:

Thank you for the refuge, Irene. Hear you next week.
Avatar 2:59pm Brian in UK:

Thanks Irene, love the first John Gorka record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Great show, as ever, Irene! Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm Irene Trudel:

Thank you all for listening today. I have two more to run over before I go.
Avatar 3:00pm gongoleer:

Going out on Townes tune. Wonderful. Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm doctorjazz:

Son of Richard! (Didn't mean for it to sound like a horror movie).
Avatar 3:05pm βrian:

Something about Thompson's voice reminds me of Bill Withers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm doctorjazz:

Melody has a part that reminds me of Losing True.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Irene Trudel:

Teddy was a sweet voice, and some good ol' gloom and doom inside.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks everybody! Catch you next week.
