Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Happy Monday, Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Irene Trudel:

Howdy Sean, james, βrian, Malcolm, and Summer and Michael and Sylvia! Yes, Nica has been known to hold court on top of my piles of CDs. Hope you're all staying cool for cats today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Irene and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Michael 98145:

RIP, Ennio Morricone (10 November 1928 – 6 July 2020)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Doug Schulkind:

Hello, young pumpkins!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Irene Trudel:

Greetings coelacanth∅, Michael and Doug! I think pumpkins may be the only entity with energy to dance today. Probably no Morricone today unless I can scare something up by the end of the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm coelacanth∅:

(what a pumpkin!)
Avatar 12:12pm gongoleer:

Hello all as well from sunny slightly breezy Vt. Nice seems to know her music. Hope you had a Happy 4th, though that's an oxymoron. The 5th. was better. Keep on Dancin' in the streets. Pumpkin or not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm sphere:

this Return To Forever albums was one of the first albums I bought when I were a lad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm sphere:

Also: Hello.
Avatar 12:13pm Really Lisa:

Hi Irene and everyone.
Avatar 12:14pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Jazz Fusion at it's most awesome, thank you for putting on return to Forever
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm coelacanth∅:

my brother gave me this album for xmas. i liked the original "return to forever" album (Chick Corea) he had so he pushed me along.
Thanks Mike! (rest in peace)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Irene Trudel:

Same here, sphere! It brings back memories of a summer party at Lake Mohawk, NJ when it was brand new. Surprising how it reminds me of The Mothers of Invention in some ways. And, welcome Lisa!
Avatar 12:16pm duke:

Did Nica pick today's playlist?
Avatar 12:18pm gongoleer:

@Irene. Haven't forgotten about Basho's Venus In Cancer. Still mining for it in collection of boxes. It will happen. Just noticed I had a typo in Nica's name. No one's purrfect :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Irene Trudel:

duke, she put a paw on a few things.
  12:19pm Alessandro_Italy:

love this 80's Shorter track !!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm doctorjazz:

Hi, Irene and listeners!
Avatar 12:23pm Brian in UK:

Hello Irene and friends. First RTF's Light as a Feather with Flora Purim stands out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Michael 98145:

Ah, yes. Loved Flora Purim ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Irene Trudel:

Hi gongoleer! No rush on your generous offer to send that album. Welcome Allesandro! Peter and I were just listening to this album in the car on the way to the beach yesterday and I knew I had to play something by Wayne today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Irene Trudel:

Hi doctor jazz and Brian! Michael, I love that first RTF album with Flora as well. Maybe I can fit it in next week.
Avatar 12:31pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Happy Birthday Mr Keepnews
  12:33pm bigplanetnoise:

Howdy, Irene! Sounding great!
  12:36pm bigplanetnoise:

Hahahaha! Thank you, Irene - it was a blast working with those guys!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Summer and Michael and Sylvia:

Firesign?! No way! Great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm sphere:

Don't Crush The Dwarf is another album from my youth. Go figure. :)
Avatar 12:39pm gongoleer:

Ahhh! Music to accompany my tax preparations.
  12:39pm Dean:

I wonder if Bob Irwin knows Glen Banks, an acquaintance who worked for several years with Firesign Theatre as, inter alia, a musical accompanist. In 2017 they gave him an award "For Timeless Friendship to the Firesign Theatre."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Irene Trudel:

Howdy bigplanetnoise! That remastering session must've been so much fun. I had the chance to work with them when the performed a new radio play for NPR at The Knitting Factory. I still have the script somewhere. Such great guys!
  12:40pm bigplanetnoise:

Hey Dean - I do not know Glen. I do know OF him, however!
  12:41pm Dean:

Thanks, Bob! I think he's still in Long Beach, CA. Nice, funny guy.
Avatar 12:42pm uuee:

Good afternoon Irene, and again, Happy Anniversary! Marching to Shibboleth indeed!
  12:43pm Dean:

I used to listen to Peter Bergman's morning radio talk show on KPFK most weekday mornings on the drive to work.

George Tirebiter!
Avatar 12:48pm Brian in UK:

This reminds me a little of The Sorry State of Staying Awake track from Appletree Theatre's sublime Playback album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Irene Trudel:

Ooh, I almost played Appletree Theatre today, Brian! I have two inspirations for next week's show now.
Avatar 12:54pm Brian in UK:

Irene, just play all of it.

Years ago you played Montana Song off David Ackles' American Gothic. It was one of those things that made me realise what Freeform means. Been hooked since.
Avatar 12:55pm gongoleer:

Anyone remember Monty Python? Marty Feldman, John Cleese, Graham Chapman. They were a hoot. Once bumped into Marty on the street in London, while turning a corner from opposite directions. Quite a surprise and of course totally unexpected. Looked at me with his bug eyes, I at him, acknowledged each other and continued on our way. Made my day.
Avatar 12:55pm TDK60:

Hello, haven't heard Firesign Theater since...well, sometime back then.
Avatar 1:00pm Brian in UK:

gongoleer, their Matching Tie and Handkerchief album was a real sneak, both sides were Side 2 and there was a double groove on one side, so the second time you played it you could pick up a different groove and hear something you had not heard before.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm sphere:

One of the weirdest movies I've ever seen was called In God We Trust and it was a Marty Feldman vehicle with Richard Pryor, Andy Kaufman, and others. Strange beyond belief.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Doug Schulkind:

Ken's Last Ever Radio Extravaganza is moving from 5-7pm Wednesday to Mondays, 3-5pm.
  1:03pm Dean:

Monty Python and Firesign Theatre, both utterly formative for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Doug Schulkind:

David Weinstein (and Ruth) of Ridgewood Radio will be moving from Wednesdays 3-5pm to Wednesdays 5-7pm.

A new program, Your Boy Black Helmet Radio with DJ Black Helmet will be taking over the Wednesday 3-5pm slot. Beginning NEXT week.

But Kenzo is doing two shows this week: Today, 3-5pm AND Wednesday 5-7pm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Doug Schulkind:

"A Marty Feldman vehicle." Just reading that phrase is an entertainment!
  1:08pm bigplanetnoise:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Doug! I had the email all cued up and hit the wrong button and it went away.
Avatar 1:09pm TDK60:

Left Banke, such a high quality combo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Irene Trudel:

In case anyone's interested, here's the session I recorded with The Left Banke in 2011: wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm coelacanth∅:

Irene i'm moving around a bit so i'll Thank you now (even though i plan to be back in a bit)
really great to hear firesign theatre!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm coelacanth∅:

(and left banke...and everything else...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks coel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi Irene! I'm having some basil, zucchini, garlic + mozzarella. Summer is here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm sphere:

RIP Morricone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Michael 98145:

Avatar 1:34pm Sean in Bristol UK:

This is a great tribute
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm sphere:

From a Guardian article about Morricone: "Once I translated for an American journalist who kept asking him about the Sergio Leone films. Morricone told me that if she asked him about Leone one more time, he was leaving."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm listener james from westwood:

Morricone Island and Fabio both will likely go full tilt on EM! But there's so much to draw on that there might not a lot of overlap.
  1:41pm bigplanetnoise:

Thank you, Irene!
  1:41pm Dean:

Wow, Charlie Daniels has died.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Webhamster Henry:

Cannibal Sing-along!
Avatar 1:42pm βrian:

So the Wednesday show wil be the Last Last Ever, I guess.
Avatar 1:44pm βrian:

The swag I might buy would be a large WFMU mask.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Michael 98145:

Saw Juana live ... what a great show
Avatar 1:45pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Just adore Juana Molina
Avatar 1:46pm Sean in Bristol UK:

@Michael 98145, I am super jealous, I would love to see her live, how was the show? Epic, me thinks
Avatar 1:47pm TDK60:

Tambien me gusta Juana M.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Michael 98145:

It was a couple years ago, but still can see it in here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Irene Trudel:

βrian, a WFMU mask is a great suggestion! Michael and Sean, as you might know, I adore Juana as well and have worked with her on a couple of shows for my other radio job.
Avatar 1:50pm βrian:

A WFMU Skeleton Krewe mask would be just the thing to wear to a properly distanced parade.
Avatar 1:51pm Sean in Bristol UK:

Totally clueless about Juana until you introduced me, thank you profusely
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Doug Schulkind:

Dashing out to my weekly Monday afternoon work Zoom. Keep on rocking, Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks Doug! Catch your show Friday morning.
Avatar 1:59pm βrian:

Oh, my Joni!
Avatar 2:02pm Malcolm:

i was thinking about joni when youplayed wayne shorter earlier :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Michael 98145:

what a genius
  2:12pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

An absolutely gorgeous set, thank you Irene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm doctorjazz:

Great old Van!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm doctorjazz:

(That's the old Brown Eyed Girl acoustic guitar riff, slowed down a lot)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm Irene Trudel:

I didn't realize that, doctorjazz, but now I hear it.
Avatar 2:34pm gongoleer:

Silent but not gone. Just entrenched with my tax return and the music selections keeping me sane and grounded. Think it was Saturday. I tuned into two different WFMU late night shows. Very cool stuff. Love the variety you all present. I'm hooked. Gotta go soon so will bid adieu. Have sunny bight days ahead.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm doctorjazz:

I hadn't ever connected it until listening this afternoon (it may just be coincidental, guitar players love that riff, but maybe...)
Thanks, Irene!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Irene Trudel:

gongoleer, thankfully we finished with tax filing this weekend. We owe a bit to the federal, thanks to DJT's revisions. BUt the state gives us something back, so at least it evens out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Irene Trudel:

Hey, thanks everybody for listening today! Let's do it again next Monday! Stay tuned for Kenzo.
Avatar 2:56pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Thanks, Irene! Hey, here comes this, sneaking in quietly with a whole lot of layers. The sound collage "Not a Single Thing," as I begin the two-station semi-simulcast experiment today.

Come along! Right now, for 2 hours: wfmu.org...
Avatar 2:56pm TDK60:

Thanks Irene.
Avatar 2:56pm gongoleer:

Yeah, I'm almost done Irene. Good news from state but what else can we expect from POTUS? Balance is good. I don't think I'll owe much to feds or state.
Avatar 2:57pm Malcolm:

thanks for the music!
Avatar 2:58pm Really Lisa:

Thank you, Irene! Perfect for my Monday afternoons here in central NJ.
Avatar 2:58pm gongoleer:

Might even get some back. Thanks for the sweet afternoon.
  2:58pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

Thank you Irene, as always a show of absolute beauty, roll on next Monday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm listener james from westwood:

Many thanks, Irene!
